  1. Not finalized, probably something simple to fit the builds theme.
  2. This is my entry in the Ultimate Weekend Warrior GBP. I'm starting with the Monogram plow truck. I was going to use American Satco Super Swampers but the dudnt feel quite big enough so I borrowed the tires out of a Mad Murder kit. I was going to use it's axles too but they're a bit wide and the truck looked like a roller skate. I ended up using the stock axles and making my own spring perches and shackles. The chassis is almost done, just a few more bits before it's time for the body work.
  3. There aren't a lot of snap muscle car subjects out right now, you might have more luck on eBay. There is also the 1/24 Monogram glue kits, they tend to be pretty simplified with lower parts counts than current AMT or Revell kits. Old AMT kits with promo style chassis are another option. I'm going to give a friend's kid some 80s promos I've picked up over the years, they're perfectly functional as toys now and when dad thinks he's ready they can pop the screws out and paint them.
  4. Wow, you sound pretty motivated to get rid of it. Let me know what you find, as long as you've got the body, bumpers, and glass it sounds like the GTO kit provides the rest. I've still got the engine from the kit I had as a teenager.
  5. It's going to be a while, I have to track down another Chevelle kit first.
  6. Thanks for the info, this made my job a lot easier.
  7. Yeah, put them on there, I could use a couple sets of tires with modern style wheels.
  8. What scale/size are they and what rims do they fit? I might be down for a few sets if they are fairly painless to use.
  9. That looks great, I've wanted to do a similar conversion and didn't think about using the GTO chassis. Where did you get the stock hood from?
  10. The blue engine is out of a Revell pro stock drag kit, I believe they are the only ones who did the long Lenco type transmission.
  11. Just because it's less common doesn't mean it's wrong, they could be ordered with a full set of spokes and different buyers liked different options. Also, if you're building an old truck as it is today it could have been spec'd for an entirely different job or in a vastly different place than it currently is. I built an east coast log truck with full spokes because I liked the look if it.
  12. I'm in with a Monogram plow truck, I'm robbing parts off a Mad Mudder since my first tire option didn't work out.
  13. That looks incredible, as usual.
  14. The ones in the L700 kit are white, I haven't seen any earlier issues.
  15. That's my guess as well Casey, either this or the 30 Woody. I believe the chrome trees are very similar for these kits and the Woody has been out in the modern white plastic era.
  16. I've never had problems with the adhesion except for when using it on flat paint, it needs a shiny surface to stick to. The only kind that cracked on me was the "ultra bright chrome", that stuff was too thin and couldn't be pulled off the paper without it falling apart but I don't think they make that kind anymore
  17. If the chrome isn't that good go ahead and toss it in the stripper of your choice. That will usually weaken the glue a good but you'll have to find a way to rechrome the bumpers.
  18. I gotta go model A, there is just something sinister looking about one with a big chop.
  19. Pickup or turtle deck, I don't really like the bobbed look of nothing unless it's a very minimalistic build.
  20. Well that's different.
  21. The Orange Crate was out fairly recently, like 2012 or 2013.
  22. While I'm waiting on new wheels and tires to get here I decided to press forward with an engine mod I had debated since starting this project. Since I was previously trying to keep this build simple and within the realm of possibility I left the stock head and pushrod setup on the engine. Now that I have abandoned common sense I decided to go with an experimental dual overhead cam setup. Most early inline engines had the intake and exhaust ports on the same side of the head because the pushrods took up the other side of the head. Ford experimented with a crossflow head where the intake runners passed between the pushrods but the design wasn't any more efficient than the existing head due to the runners being so small. I took the concept one step further by converting the engine to a modern belt driven dual overhead cam design. I used valve covers from a 4.6 mod motor turned end to end and shortened a bit to make the cover for the straight 6.
  23. Tell him just to hang on to it, eventually it will be "vintage".
  24. Only by finishing kits will you build the skills to turn out better models. Seeing a build through to the end is a skill all to itself, I'm having to train myself to finish kits after years of jumping to another project when something got difficult on what I was working on. I made my peace long ago with the fact that not every build will be perfect but I can learn from the current build to make the next one better. Don't throw your stalled builds away, you can always revisit them with more skill or a renewed vision. I used to burn my messed up builds and lost many kits is love to have back.
  25. Here's a link to the thread you were talking about.
