Replica of a good friends actual car. Revells 1972 Olds kit. Built as a plain Cutlass convertible. All box stock ,, with exception to embossing powder for carpet. Painted in plain testors bright red with wet look clear. Interior is just duplicolor white primer with testors semi gloss clear. I need to find out what the accent wheel color was on his old car ,,then once all wrapped up . I'll give it to him as a gift. Long story short he bought his car back in high school. Drove it all thru college, dated his now wife in it. After graduation ,,,he started a family and career. And the car ended up in storage and just slowly went down hill over the past 20 plus years. With a daughter now in college, and 2 more to go. Last summer, he made the painful decision to sell the car to someone who would / could do something with it before it got any worst. So we spent a couple days getting it running a drive-able enough it would lot drive and sort of clean it up.. and he sold in the 1st day to someone who happened to drive by my shop and spotted it outside. . The next day the guy came to pick it up,,,,,, and when the car drove away I thought he was going to cry. So,,,,, when Revell issued this kit last year and was able to build a plain Cutlass I decided to give him is old car back,,,only slightly smaller and easier to store. I will say,,this car builds up beautifully with zero issues Thanks for looking, and comments or criticisms more then welcome .

Edit, I am thinking of the split where the grille meets the fender is actually hidden ( sort of ) by the bumper. The area in the grill is smooth So yep, fill it in
-
Its where the plastic grill meets up with the metal fender. On a real car its there just not as apparent as the model depicts
-
I like it, wheels and all.

we think alike. Other decals for the lindberg 64 dodge and plymouth line would be ideal for me As far as just some generic made up names decals means nothing top me . IMO, ( and i'm just using one kit as an example ) With the recent re-issue of the CMG kit they are obviously trying to get all they can out of the tool. . I think they could get considerably more mileage out of it if they offered decals for other known cars from the same / similar time period . I think would sell better and for more money. As an example some generic sheet with made up names/ graphics sells for lets say $5-$7 range. A sheet to replicate an actual car , lets just say Bobby Harrops Flying Carpet Dodge could sell in the $8 to $10 range

Thanks all. The minute i started on it . i was excited about it. Rigbt up till the end. Thats been my problem lately..lack of enthusiasm . I think i need to cocentrate on more of these simple builds for a while

Resin Realm... Closing up Shop...!!!
gtx6970 replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've noticed this in the 1/1 world as well. Guys are getting older. and not nearly as many youngsters with the same wants/desires. -
I don't see anything left behind now thats its done But its all chrome parts so I cant comment if it would have create issues if parts were to be painted afterwards. I basically balled up some clay and lightly pushed the car and exhaust stacks in place to be held down to it. Rolled up a few smaller ones to 'smoosh' under the lights to basically just hold them in place while glue dries

Last nite while rummaging thru the pile to pull kits out for sale ( Im thinning down considerably on cheap kits ) I stumbled on this one, and to be honest I didnt even know I had it . So I pulled it out of the box to take an assessment if it was complete before I decided to keep it or put it in the sell pile . Everything was still sealed in the bags. So I did a quick parts count, and thought this could be an easy one. So,,last nite at about 8 pm I ripped it open and dove in . By midnight it was almost done. Painted almost entirely in Tamiya spray lacquers so it dries fast. This morning attached the tail lights , exhaust stacks and headlights and walked away for the afternoon while they dried. Honestly Ive got MAYBE 4.5 hours in it,,,,, 5 at the very most. Its done and in the case. I feel good. ,,,,,,, Just might have to do the actual Munsters Coach next. Thanks for looking, Enjoy, and any comments good or bad more then welcome

Dodge "Mighty Bee"

Not something I would have ever thought, but so cool -
Stumbled onto this one last nite. While working on the Dragula yesterday after dinner,,,, I was wondering how to hold the exhaust up in place while glue dries. Testors takes to long to dry, not to mention I really didn't want to stand there holding a piece at a time while it dried ,hoping it was actually straight and Superglue fogs the chrome finish . So,,,,,,,, I had a box of modeling clay on the bench Ive been using to make foil impressions of emblems . and had this hair brained idea if this would work . and it does, In this pic you can see its holding up the exhaust, the headlights in place and the tail light bar in place. works like a charm ,,just don't bump it til everything sets up.

ps, I have both original MPC 1970 and a 71 Cudas , and a few unbuilt Johan 71 Sox and Martin kits . Plus I have an extra 70-71 MPC interior tub if anyone wants to see side by side comparisons . ( sorry ,,none of it is for sale )
-
To be honest, I kind of doubt Johan was tooling up for a stock 71 Cuda. MPC had the rights for both dealer promos and mass produced kits. Not saying its impossible just very unlikely
-
Thats not going to be easy ,,,,,About the only way I can think of is cut them out of another body. They are not only indented into the body, there is a very thin ridge around them that gets chrome,,,and its REALLLLLY thin . But like I said , finding an original MPC is not that difficult. you just have to be patient . The billboards were an option and its theory that most 71 Cudas didn't get them from the factory installed ,,,at least not near as many cars that have them today

To fricken cool. I like how the whole theme just works ,,especially all the under chassis details . And the turbine idea works really well with the overall shape of a 58 impala back end Although I have a feeling that rear license plate wouldn't last long on acceleration
