gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
One with it assembled dry to ck stance and overall how it looks. Out in the sun this color comes alive . Thank you Tamiya . I cant decide if I like the black rear steel wheels or go with the Radar that match the front. Ive found pictures of it both ways -
1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018

Watching this come to fruition ,,,,There is no way I could / would rush it at this point. If you make your deadline, Great. If not so what . Tomorrow is another day and another opportunity . At the level your trying to achieve, there is bound to be setbacks. Its all part of it. And l like everything else ,we deal with it and move forward . To me , I build what I want , when I want to build it. Its all about inspiration. Without it , I don't go near the model bench. I also have a life size model in the garage. Wrapped up in the form of a 1968 Charger RT. Its a customers car that's been in process off an on for the past 3 years or so,,,,so its not like the 1/25th scale cars are the only modeling I get to do . And with no major setbacks ( and its certainly had its share) from this point forward . The car will roll out of my garage by end of April DONE . And with summer right around the corner, modeling will come to a screeching halt here soon for me anyway. -

Thanks, I want to think the actual car when I saw it the long block was blue,,,,but that was over 20 years ago now I guess. Not to mention I looked at A LOT of vintage super stock cars that day. On top of the fact my memory isn't what it used to be. That trip was a very last minute idea and forgot to pack my camera ( cell phones didn't exist in my world back then ) But now you got me thinking I may need to change the color . Oh well best change it now if need be ,,,,,,back to Google images if I can find it . Edit, the only under hood pics I can find of this car are of the 1/18th scale diecast. And its blue. 100% accurate or not. I " think " I'll leave it as is . On a positive note I did find a nice article on the 1st Thunderbolt. The Dick Brannon / Romy Hammes car. And it has a black engine in it . -
Having seen this actual car in person many many years ago. I knew someday I needed to build one in scale. And that day has finally arrived. After doing a little research a couple years ago I found out that Tamiya makes the colors that gets me extremely close if not dead on to the 1/1 . TS11 for the maroon and TS21 for the gold . Having built the Gas Ronda and Hubert Platt cars in the past . So I'm somewhat familiar with the kit itself. And IMO , its one of Revells best in 1/25th scale . Nothing special really, its just going to be a simple box stock build to fill a hole in my display case . Painted it earlier this week, did all the decals a couple days ago. and while the house was all quite this morning, I cleared it. All the emblems were covered in bare metal foil before any paint or primer went on , then wiped off with a Tamiya Q tip and lacquer thinner once painted , but prior to clear coats. Interior tub is just Testors champagne gold . I masked off the door panels with bare metal foil and painted the white accents. ( still undecided if I want to attempt fate and do the darker upper portion of them or leave well enough alone and call it good ,,,my gut says stop now before I screw something up) Tub was masked off so I could paint the floor in a satin black to look like the rubber mat in the 1/1 . I'm a big boy so comments or criticisms more then welcome

Cool. Are those the tires and wheels in this kit

Mail man dropped off both the 1mm and 2mm chrome pens. I ordered them off Amazon maybe 2 weeks ago and they arrived this afternoon . And the curious George that I am . I had to see what all the fuss was about. I practiced on some spare sprues and realized you better be careful as it looks like on the 2mm pen the paint gets thick in a hurry. Then I did a windshield frame for my Munsters Koach and I swear it looks like it came off the chrome tree. I then used the 1mm version on some molded in hood pins on a a couple cars and WOW . Very nice . With that said only time will tell what it looks like in a year , or 5 , or 20 . But WOW, I'm impressed so far. Has anyone cleared over it yet to ck the effects if any ? I did a vent wing frame on a body that will get cleared here in the next few days . So maybe I'm the guinea pig ?????

1963 Pontiac Bonneville Hard Top. Update, 3/25
gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
WOW, I didn't think you could top the 62 Chrysler but you might just be headed there with this one bro. As you well know black is my hands down favorite color. To bad its a pain to clean ( or keep clean I should say ) -
Is the seat pattern decals ? if so are they in this kit or aftermarket ?

Caspers Cosmic Charger paint
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks, Ive read and re-read that post several times. And I think I have it figured out. I've glued the lower rear and upper halves of the tail together and molded them together as one piece. Once painted I'll then slide the chassis in place. And then glue all the forward body panels in place after that. I'm after the look of the actual car with the scoop and the front wheel fairings. To be honest I just don't care for box art build version with the blower sticking up out of the body work. And mine is going to built curbside style as well. So the engine and all the blower stuff will go in the parts box . I have to go out this morning so i'll pick up some blue paint for the upper rear cowl , windshield frame and wheel fairings. But for the most part. So far so, so good -
Some days I wonder what the model manufacturers thought process is on re-issuing kits. And this is one of them. I would imagine this will be retailed in the $29 range give or take . One can find this kit in the secondary market for well under $20 all day long. ( bought one a few months ago for $10 still sealed inside. ) And yes I know the manufacturers could care less about the secondary market place. But still ? Maybe I'm just not familiar with there thinking but to me it would make more sense to bring out something that hasn't seen the light of day , in say the last 20 years for an example. I'll use the 72 Chevy pickups as an example. I would think it would be a much better seller than say this one ,,,or the just re-issued Color Me Gone Dodge Anyone know for sure the thinking behind the scenes on how/why/when a kit gets re-issued ?

Wow, won another one over the weekend . Wasnt really looking for another vert ( I have a pretty nice one already ) . But I threw a bid on it the last for minutes thinking I would get outbid at the last minute. Got up today only to find out I won the thing. It looks like a pretty decent builder in the pics

Dodge Q3 light turquoise
gtx6970 replied to restoman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I stand corrected. Looks like it MIGHT have been avail on 1970 B body models. In all my years Ive never seen or heard of one in that color. This isn't the end all on color availability so don't take it as gospel . Look around here for more info http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/index.shtml -

Mind if I ask , what it is your planning to paint. To the best of my knowledge the only thing Q3 was avail on was C bodies in 1970.
