Just one of those days.
gtx6970 replied to gtx6970's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad I'm not the only one. last nite I ,,I just closed up the garage, turned out the light at the bench. took the wife to dinner and had a cold adult beverage and forgot about it all Oh well, today is a new day. Its already swimming in the pond. and my parts in for the Charger so I'll be back to it once the garage warms up -
Its enough to just ruin your day I tell ya. Between some not so good events in the garage on the 1/1 1968 Charger R/T I'm restoring for a client and then this happens at the model bench ..Its enought to just ruin your day I say. All was going great. Primary color is Rustoleum2X to replicate the 59 Ford color called Geranium ( a pinkish orange so to speak ) Whole interior was sprayed in Duplicolor white primer. Masked off the white seat inserts with bare metal foil then sprayed the primary color with 2 very light coats . After about an hour or 2 to flash off,,,,then topped it off with one coat of flat clear. And let that dry over night. Yesterday morning it looked killer with no issues. Then yesterday afternoon I then hand painted the door panel accents and the black seat inserts. Then topped off with 2 light coats of testors flat clear. . Again zero paint issues. I had done a spoon test with this same primer , color and clear back before Christmas with no issues. Late yesterday afternoon I had to touch up a couple tiny spots with a brush in the primary color on the back side of the front seat ....so I had to spray one more coat of flat clear on it, ,,,,That's when disaster struck. Some areas turned this weird white color, others crinkled like I sprayed enamel over lacquer. ( its not btw ) . Weird part is I had already sprayed a couple coats of this clear on the interior earlier in the day with zero issues so I don't think its a humidity issue ,,at least I don't think it is . Either way there's no polishing it. In the purple pond it goes I absolutely hate ,,,,yes HATE stripping paint. Especially when all was going so well. I was REALLY excited about this build. Now not so much.

Ok Fomoco people On a 1959 Sunliner convertible.( NOT a retractable btw ) with the top down, what color is the vinyl boot that covers the top in the down position ? Does it match the top of the decklid or the top of the back seat vinyl ? The car in question i'm thinking is a color called Geranium . but I'm not sure if I'm going 2 tone with white or black . The interior is going to be Geranium with white and black accents. Next question is, If I decided not to go with Geranium as an exterior color ,,is this same interior avail on an all black car as an example? Geranium is pretty much a pink and IMO a pink boot looks weird

1961 Chrysler 383
gtx6970 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd sure like to see it. I have a Johan 61 New Yorker that the roof was cut off before I got it. My plans are to turn it into a 61 300 convertible combining it with a Johan 62 300 hardtop that I got simply to use as parts. I also picked up an original issue 62 300 interior tub and seats . The 1961 Chrysler 300 is my holy grail of 1/1 cars I actually was playing around today with making foil impressions off the 62 kits 300 circular side emblems -

Question about AMT Color Me Gone 64 Dodge
gtx6970 replied to chriscarroll.ogre's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
With Ollies just having this kit on the shelves at $7.99 in just the past 3 or 4 months . Tells me its a SLOOOOOOW seller . I just cant imagine this one being any better. The secondary market is flooded with the 1st issues . and Like mentioned if its going to be $39.95 like the Lawman , these will stay on shelves. I think Ive got at least a half dozen of them myself IMO if Round 2 wants to get more mileage out of the tools, change the decals and do different cars of the period . Golden Commandos 64 Plymouth, Bobby Harrops 64 Dodge , Hayden Proffitts 64 Plymouth ( both versions ) just to name a few . -

Resin Alternatives for Small Molds
gtx6970 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
im thinking use pure white silicone . instead of rtv. Ive tried rtv in the past and had the same issue ...removing it was not going to happen with any chance of using it as a mold -

How to safely strip paint from a promo
gtx6970 replied to chriscarroll.ogre's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yep. like mentioned . Heavily sanded on Johan 1960 Cadillac KIT. Far to straight to be an original promo. Depending on what kind of paints on it, I would start with brake fluid and see what they gets me. If that doesn't work I would advance to Wesley bleach white or Castol Super clean 1960 Johan Promos were still acetate ( as a fun fact Johan promos were acetate up to and including 1963s ) 1964 they were Stryene here is your typical view on a 1960 Promo ,,,of any particular promo -
Been trying to figure out the best source to gather up all the 1970 440 six barrel components I need. I think I have it figured out - Engine and auto transmission and most of the accessory items are from the AMT 1971 Charger (they have the correct 70-71 style valves covers) . Intake is the MPC 1971 Roadrunner. Air cleaner is a Johan piece I will modify the base to accept the sixpack . Carbs themselves from the AMT 1971 Duster. Yep, Its a hodgepodge of parts. The 8+3/4 rear axle is also going to be from the same 71 Charger kit . I'm trying to make this as accurate as I can to the 1/1 .

Resin Alternatives for Small Molds
gtx6970 replied to Snake45's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Interesting, Info. I never would have thought to use hot glue as a filler material Here is MY prime example of a small molding idea - I have a conversion coming close to the top of the pile. I want to convert a Johan 61 New Yorker kit I have with the roof cut off of it into a 1961 Chrysler 300 convertible. Using the Johan 1962 300 as a parts donor I want to pull a mold off the 62 300 kits side emblems and transfer them to my 61 body. Ive done the clay impression idea and IMO the emblem is to shallow to work with successfully. Now I can try using cheap kitchen foil, or BMF with the adhesive cleaned off. Then the clay to hold it in shape and just fill the backside of the foil with hot glue . Once the glue is set up, remove it from the clay and trim as required. then superglue it to the 61 body. Sure sounds like a good idea to me If it works , I may try to pull molds from the New Yorker emblems and transfer to them the 62 kit and make a New Yorker hardtop -
I like it. A LOT I have one I keep thinking I need to build. It was one of my favorite shows when I was much younger.

No exchange necessary bro. You said your were looking for one. - I have about a half dozen of them. So I boxed one up . Its not unbuilt dead mint but I think its complete. Just so you know ,,,,, I blame you for my spending habits over the past 2 years or so . If you hadn't posted that beautiful 58 Ford, I wouldn't have started looking for all the old annuals like I have. Yep, its all your fault .

Just need to detail a shifter and install, and the interior is done Original Johan tub , dash and seats. Added a strip of stryene across the top of the dash to simulate the dash pad. Hung a parts box auto pedal from the dash ( just cant hardly see it with the black carpeting) Console is from my parts box( I think its Revell 67 GTX ) filled the hole where the 4 spd shifter was so I can replicate a console auto like the 1/1 is . I tried to dry brush the dash gauges to bring them out a little,,,they filled the gauge with Testors clear

1962 Chrysler 300 Convertible. 1/1, Basically Done!
gtx6970 replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Edit, never mind . A quick google search yielded they were standard in 60-61, but were made optional in 62 as a short ram version http://www.chrysler300club.com/letterhistory/History.htm -

Looking good bro. But have to ask, are you sure the log rams were avail in 62 ? I thought they were 60 - 61 only. I think in 62 they went to the inline 2 fours. ( But I'll be honest Im a long way from an authority on early sixties 300s )
