  1. Thats the restored car ( notice the color of the name on the door ? ) I try to use period photos for references as much as I can , as an example in all the pictures I have of this car none show it with the 5 spoke wheels on the front like the restored car does . And In person the model isn't as gold as it appears ( at least not on my monitor )
  2. Yes, just haven't got to it yet.
  3. I have several cans of Duplicolor or Plasticote engine enamels here. From Pontiac blue, Mopar turquoise , Hemi orange ( both shades ) Ford Blue. Its all I use for engines Thats exterior Hemi orange which isnt the same as engine hemi orange color
  4. Ive been told a few times to drag the thread of choice over a candle to get rid of the fuzzies and it also helps hold its shape
  5. Finished this one up over the weekend . I had ordered the Molotow pens to specifically to try on this build. The windshield frame which oddly enough is molded in black plastic ,,,, I just went over the plastic with the 2mm pen. and I swear it looks like it came off the chrome tree Car is all box stock, although I did go over most of the chrome with a yellow sharpie to give it a gold tint. Painted all rattle cans - with Duplicolor basic black with Duplicolor clear. . Interior is just Tamiya dull red , and embossing powder for carpet. The kits not exactly the easiest to build. Especially gluing the rear seat risers in place on a painted body was nerve racking to say the least . Plus the pass side rear fender hits the tire if you use the pre-drilled mounting holes for said fenders ( I moved the rear section of it up just slightly to clear the tire) Ps, I added a filler strip to the back of the rear most top seat to fill it in . Ive wanted to build this kit for years ,,just never got the ambition to until recently . I now have both this one and the Dragula in the case. Thanks for looking
  6. I used to have an original AMT grill ( a buildup that's long gone now ) But I seem to remember nothing from an AMT kit fits this body. To me the biggest pet peave is the body line that runs the side of the car gets too close to the top of the fender at the forward end compared to a 1/1 . You can alleviate that to some degree by sanding off the molded in trim that tops said body line and with a sanding file lower it to the slightest degree like I did on my Gold one. If your on a budget or just want a slump buster ,, the car can me made into something very respectable without to much effort I have a few of them put back for future ideas. My next one will be to do Roger Lindamoods non AFX Color Me gone car And BTW, I had a heck of a time stripping the paint off that these come in . My next one, I'm just going to primer / paint over it .
  7. IMO, the Polar Lights 65 Coronet gets a bad rep. especially once you take in your options . Either find an original ( not cheap ) or a resin repop of an original very hit or miss to quality . I used one to build my OB Hewitt car,,, and my daughter ( she was 12 at the time ) Built a Ramcharger car. My only contribution was help her with few decals ,otherwise its all her. On mine I used the Lindberg Hemi in place of the kits wedge
  8. not a problem. Ive got one of the kits to build someday. After seeing the 1/1 and now your build inspires me to build mine. maybe sooner than later. Ive got a Cosmic Charger on the bench now some I'll need another FED to go with it in the case .
  9. Meh,,,,,,,another month I get to keep more of my money in my pocket
  10. I got the opportunity to see the actual car up close and personal last year
  11. I like it. Got one to do myself someday.
  12. Final wheel choice has been decided on the Tasca car. ( my wife made the final decision. As I just couldn't decided one wheel over the other) Steel wheels on the Bob Ford car are the chrome pens , same goes the chrome around the door frames . I'll stick with BMF for the FT/RR window trim and side moldings on both cars. Decals on the Bob Ford car have fought me tooth and nail from the word go. Ive got decals to do 5 more cars. The Conner Ford car, Al Means / Phil Bonner car, 2 versions of a Butch Leal car, and the Reynolds Ford car. Problem is I'm not sure Ive got enough kits on hand to do all 5
  13. No but I will the next one
  14. Anyone had any issues using older Fred Cady decals ? I bought them several years ago ( likely over ten years or more ) . But they have been stored in a static cling photo album ever since. Took them out this week to use them and have had nothing but problems. Breaking apart when lifting them off the carrier sheet mad eit a lot of fun to do the car . And today I noticed they are loose on the car like there's no adhesive on the decal. I had to lightly brush over them with future to hold them in place. ........At least I hope they stay once it all dries . Ive used dozens of his sheets over they years ,, most when they were new but some maybe 5 years or more age wise . And not once have I ever had an issue in the past . I sure hope this isn't a sign of things to come as I have dozens of them in my album .
  15. I bough the 1mm and 2mm pens ( for my needs / intentions I dont think I need the 4 mm pen ) And I'll be honest I am impressed . I did window trim and a full set of wheel with them . And they shine like they came off the chrome tree I did a test piece and sprayed lacquer clear over top of it and it makes it look like silver paint
  16. While browsing my local auto parts store, I stumbled on some Duplicolor gold that I think passes pretty close for the color " I think " the Bob Ford car was. And per the can its a Ford color. So I grabbed another body and hood out of the stash and quickly got to work. Sanded all the mold lines off and washed it down. Primer on Friday morning, sanded it down with 600 , then taped off the roof and painted the gold yesterday morning, taped it back up and then the black this morning. Dug out my Cady decal sheet this afternoon. And I have to say Ive never in my life had so much trouble getting decals on a model car. Seems like every one I pulled out of the water it came off the sheet in pieces. Or once it hit the body it absolutely didn't want to move no matter how wet I had the area. I was so frustrated I nearly stuffed it back in a box for some other day. But with some serious effort on my part after nearly 3 hours of work . I managed to get everything on and lined up as best I could . I'll get the chassis - power train assembled this evening then carry one with my 1st ever dual build. For now its just a dry fit to the Tasca Ford cars chassis/interior to see how it looks. This build will get the steel wheels only I'll try to the chrome pen thing on them and see how well they work . Otherwise I'll let it dry overnight then clear it tomorrow morning.
  17. Duplicolor is your friend
  18. I have about every 58 to 64 amt/ johan/mpc conv kits. I'll doling in and see if I can name all the top boots tomorrow.
  19. Had this happen just a few days ago. Carpet monster decided it needed my windshield for my Munsters Koach kit. I found it,,,,, about a half hour later. I heard the 'crack' I knew instantly what it was. That was a sickening feeling.
  20. I'm not much into foreign / exotics . But I've always like this car in this livery since they first came out . Might have to build one,,,,,,,,, someday . But it would have to be 1/25th scale .
  21. You lucky dog , best I got is I stood next to this very car with it at idle and man it sounds gooooooood . And just a few yards away the Hubert Platt Thunderbolt sat quietly waiting . I had some serious cars all around me that day. The Dyno Don AFX Coment , near by the Sox and Martin pro stock Thunderbird was warming up for a few exhibition runs . Needless to say I was in serious drool mode. I even got to meet Shirley Shahan the same day ,,super nice lady btw . The more I think about it , WOW that was a good trip. Sadly that was the last time I saw Jake King before he passed some time later. Regrettably I didnt get his autograph with Ronne and Buddys signed my program ( which I still have btw )
  22. One with it assembled dry to ck stance and overall how it looks. Out in the sun this color comes alive . Thank you Tamiya . I cant decide if I like the black rear steel wheels or go with the Radar that match the front. Ive found pictures of it both ways
  23. Watching this come to fruition ,,,,There is no way I could / would rush it at this point. If you make your deadline, Great. If not so what . Tomorrow is another day and another opportunity . At the level your trying to achieve, there is bound to be setbacks. Its all part of it. And l like everything else ,we deal with it and move forward . To me , I build what I want , when I want to build it. Its all about inspiration. Without it , I don't go near the model bench. I also have a life size model in the garage. Wrapped up in the form of a 1968 Charger RT. Its a customers car that's been in process off an on for the past 3 years or so,,,,so its not like the 1/25th scale cars are the only modeling I get to do . And with no major setbacks ( and its certainly had its share) from this point forward . The car will roll out of my garage by end of April DONE . And with summer right around the corner, modeling will come to a screeching halt here soon for me anyway.
  24. Thanks, I want to think the actual car when I saw it the long block was blue,,,,but that was over 20 years ago now I guess. Not to mention I looked at A LOT of vintage super stock cars that day. On top of the fact my memory isn't what it used to be. That trip was a very last minute idea and forgot to pack my camera ( cell phones didn't exist in my world back then ) But now you got me thinking I may need to change the color . Oh well best change it now if need be ,,,,,,back to Google images if I can find it . Edit, the only under hood pics I can find of this car are of the 1/18th scale diecast. And its blue. 100% accurate or not. I " think " I'll leave it as is . On a positive note I did find a nice article on the 1st Thunderbolt. The Dick Brannon / Romy Hammes car. And it has a black engine in it .
  25. Having seen this actual car in person many many years ago. I knew someday I needed to build one in scale. And that day has finally arrived. After doing a little research a couple years ago I found out that Tamiya makes the colors that gets me extremely close if not dead on to the 1/1 . TS11 for the maroon and TS21 for the gold . Having built the Gas Ronda and Hubert Platt cars in the past . So I'm somewhat familiar with the kit itself. And IMO , its one of Revells best in 1/25th scale . Nothing special really, its just going to be a simple box stock build to fill a hole in my display case . Painted it earlier this week, did all the decals a couple days ago. and while the house was all quite this morning, I cleared it. All the emblems were covered in bare metal foil before any paint or primer went on , then wiped off with a Tamiya Q tip and lacquer thinner once painted , but prior to clear coats. Interior tub is just Testors champagne gold . I masked off the door panels with bare metal foil and painted the white accents. ( still undecided if I want to attempt fate and do the darker upper portion of them or leave well enough alone and call it good ,,,my gut says stop now before I screw something up) Tub was masked off so I could paint the floor in a satin black to look like the rubber mat in the 1/1 . I'm a big boy so comments or criticisms more then welcome
