  1. Ed , I clear coat just about every build I do, decals and everything. And haven't had a problem like that yet. But I use Duplicolor or Upol clear as I rarly use model spray paints anymore decals are pkgd up and will go out in the morning
  2. Steve, I think I may have to dig out the airbrush so to avoid heavy color coats,,and try the foil then paint method just so I can try to get the hood and decklid lettering show up once done. I sanded the mold lines off the bumpers this morning . Plan is strip them and try the alclad or spazstic method for the 1st time on this one
  3. I think I've seen this picture before ,,if it is,, its a photoshop,,,but can you imagine trying to drive that thing ?
  4. I went to the hot rod reunion last year,,and I have to say after seeing some of these 'rails' . My hats off to the guys that strapped there arsses in there .
  5. sums it up pretty well for me.. I look at lots of the in progress stuff , even in sections that I have no interest . Ideas can come from all different kinds of areas of interest.
  6. John, Thanks for the engine color info. I have some Duplicolor Pontiac engine paint on hand for when I did my Beswick Catalina. So that worked out nicely. I'll be brutally honest I am a littte anxious to go cutting / sanding on a 50 plus year old kit,,Its survived this long quite nicely. Gonna have to think about it though. I did manage to get the mold lines sanded off this morning ( that was fun ) and the body is now in primer . I'll gve it a day to dry and then wet sand it smooth for paint. Got a pic of the wheelcovers ? I just did an ebay promo search and its kind of hard to see the wheels in the few I did find . Although I did find a pretty decent looking 58 pontiac promo I may think about ( dealership promotionals is another bad habit of mine )
  7. everytime I ck updates I keep thinking it couldnt possibly get any better,,then I see stuff like this. And have to keep reminding myself this is a model. And cant wait to see it completed. So suck it up and get back to work ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,LOL Still want to hear it fire up for the 1st time though
  8. Very cool. I like the mix of old and new if tastefully done such as this There is a yellow Vette of similar vintage thats all modern drivertain I see around here a couple times a year. Has to be a blast to drive .
  9. Spent a little time at the model work bench over the weekend. Doing a litte bit of detail paint work on the chassis . Dupicolor red oxide primer red, gloss back frame and suspension components, testors steel on the fuel tank and exhaust pipes, testors silver on the mufflers and testors jet exhaust on the trans area. Need to find out what color the engine is supposed to be,,then I can finish it up and put the tires / wheels back on it . Then move onto the interior. comments welcome of all kinds , thanks for looking. It felt good to get back the bench. I've decided,,this is my ultimate goal . I just hope I can do the kit justice.
  10. Concentrate on getting healthy. Everything else is secondary,,,,,including toy cars
  11. does the Johan 68 Fury police car have these hubcaps in it ?
  12. My problem is. Other than lettering all these cars look alike. Are they all using the same chassis and bodywork?

  14. I'm in. I just bought a decent looking built-up of the same car....paid more than that for mine though
  15. Very nice. I've always liked these cars. The funky headlights had me when I saw Roadhouse
  16. Correct All 426 based engines the dist was pass side of the engine as shown, ALL first gen engines the dist was in the back ,,like a chevy engine
  17. So far so good. and just a bit of info. The mufflers and the pipes leading out to the tips on a T/A were flat black . head pipes were steel and the tips were chrome
  18. Steve. Very nice. This has me looking for a 58 Buick as well. This will be the 1st replica stock build I've done in several years. Any recommendations on how to do the Pontiac lettering on the hood and decklid
  19. Very nice, I had an opportunity to sit in a real SLR about 15 years ago ,,its not an easy car for a bigger person to get into . But not half bad once your in
  20. Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I thought I had an original issue builtup around here somewhere , found it and sure enough it was missing its rear bumper. Thanks again
  21. Its an original AMT kit . Found it on Ebay . I was actually looking for a 1959 builtup.. I saw how clean and complete it was and had to have it . Doesn't look like anything was ever painted or any of the custom pieces glued to it . I have a minor repair to do to the pass side vent wing frame ,,but plan is full steam ahead on it . And I am really leaning towards the black with red coves . Did a google search this morning and was originally thinking white with red coves and red and white int. But when I came across the picture of one in black that was all it took . By chance anyone know of a source for the lettering to do the Pontiac and Bonneville scripts. I have a feeling these are going to vanish under even the lightest of paint coats. They can be photoetch or decals I looked at the photoetched set for the 60 Trumpeter kit and I have my doubts they will work
  22. Postman droppd of an ebay impulse purchase. Original AMT 1958 Pontiac Bonneville convertible builtup. Hard to believe this thing is older than I am( not by much ) . It doesnt look like anything has ever been painted This will not be going in a box for a future build project. I've been wanting to get back to the model bench for over a year ,,and this is the one to do it .
  23. While lunch is heating up. I did a quick dry assemble ,,just to see how the stance and I think its perfect
