What's your opinion on clearcoating over decals?
gtx6970 replied to Terry Sumner's topic in WIP: NASCAR
In most cases at the contests I used to attend ,,,,,slick and shiny would win out every time -
Thanks Chuck, I need to proof read my typing better, I knew it was the 70 and somehow typed 71 . And thanks, I wasn't aware Slixx was doing the 1970 flame car sheet. And I have a cady sheet for the 71 but I think it's scaled more for a 1/24th scale body ?????? plus I have a couple of the Harts Parts resin 71 challenger conversions and using the lindberg body over the AMT comglomeration might be a better option,, at least for me anyway . Although I seem to be staying more in the mid sixties era cars at the moment so god only knows when I'll get back into a 70's era kick

For now , Polar lights Funnycars - split between the Charger and the Barrauda kits I have maybe 5 - 6 done and another 8 -10 or so on the shelf. Then it's the Lindberg 1964 Dodge. I have 3 done now and 2 more in the works with about 12 -14 more unbuilts on the shelf with another 6-8 of the Lindberg 1964 Plymouths Followed by the Revell 64 Thunderbolt with 2 done with maybe 6 - 8 unbuilts on the shelf. I have about a dozen of the AMT 62 belairs to do but only 1 done. All vintage drag car projects.

I like this one a lot. Definitly captures the feel of the cars back then. Lightweight , Simple and crazy fast. Untill recently I was never a big fan of the old dragsters. That changed when I went to the NHRA reunion in Bowling Green . I have to give a big kudos the drivers of the cars.

I used to have a small blade retractable tip cutter . It was perfect for trimming BMF on model bodies. anyone know if this is still avail anywhere . the end of the blade was only maybe 1/8" - 3/16" wide and it swiveled in the end of the housing if I remember right

Born in 1959 got into hot wheels and model cars late 60's , been hooked ever since. got into real cars by the mid- 70's . By the early 80's I had 2 hemi car's,, several 440 six pack cars and a Daytona, ( all now gone ) ( with a slight deviation along the way for ' the ladys' - married in 1993 ) Turned 16 in 1975 and had saved my money to buy my own first car. Driving around in my parents 1973 Dodge Colt station wagon did very little for ones image,( although the back of that little wagon could tell some pretty cool stories all there own ) After a brief stint with a 6 cyl Pontiac Tempest I wanted something cool and fast, but it had to be cool 1975-76 time frame My dad and I went to look at a 1957 Chevy 2 door hardtop, 283 and 3spd , with the continental spare tire on the trunk. Sadly the car had been wrecked and hit a culvert in a ditch. Bending the ft lower frame crossmenber. And my dad wouldn't let me buy it. It took some persuassion on my part with my dad. But I ended up buying a friends of mines 1967 Cougar 390 auto, I beat the snot out of that car for about a year, till the oil consumption got to be to much and I didn't have the money to fix it back then. So I sold it to my uncle and he replaced the motor and went dirt track racing with it , I think he ended up junking the bent banged up car after a year or so of racing it . The summer of 1977 before my senior year I was at a friends house down the road when I spotted a blue 1969 Road runner in a guys ft yard for sale. After stopping to talk to the guy about it. I was interested. So the next day my dad and I went and looked it over, and I drove it home. He wanted $200 for it, when I told him all I had was $150 he took it. AH,,,,, the good old days of cheap and fast. It was bright blue with blue interior , 383 column auto and bench seat . But it had air shocks , and these really cool aluminum slots all the way around and boy was it loud. But I was in heaven.I was hooked , And I've had nuttin but mopars since. 1986 I went to work as a dodge dealer tech for the next 25 years. While there the office manager was this really good looking brunette. it took some gusto on my part but did get up the nerve to ask here out, . We've been together ever since, now married 19 years with 2 daughters . But from time to time, I do think about where my life would be if I had bought that Chevy.

gtx6970 replied to blazefox's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I'm in, waiting quietly . Now, if I can just find a late 60's 2ton Dodge cab kit, hint hint, -
I know this is a streyne board,,,, but this was just to cool to ignore. Mods just delete if it's not appropriate. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=gn1qMYfFrro&feature=related

Anyone know how close demensionally the old MPC kits are compared to the Lindberg kit.? The vinyl top pattern on the AMT kit has turned me off to use it as a starting base I have a few of the MPC pro stock challenger hoods and was wondering how well the hood will match up with the Lindberg body. I have maybe 3 or 4 MPC 1972-73 builtup bodies but starting with fresh new plastic might be a better option. Chuck, Are the yellow side panels on that body painted or decals ? Does anyone do the flame type side panel decals to do an accurate 71 Missle car?

Duplicolor lacquer with Tamiya primer?
gtx6970 replied to CEKPETHO BCE's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Been duplicolor OR Brite Touch primer on my builds for years .(I've been told Brite touch is a re-labeled Duplicolor brand) and Duplicolor rattle cans for quite a while with no issues. I just make sure to put a light primer coat on 1st,,, then followed by a heavier coat, sand and paint with the desired top coat color. But I use a U-POl urethane rattle can clear. EDIT, I have NOT used this on a resin piece yet. I just got back into the hobby in the past 6-7 months and a resin project has not come up in the lineup as of yet. -
I like it,,, a lot. The 62 Dart has been on my ' they're so ugly they're cool list.' I have one in the to do pile , but mine will not be replica stock though.

My likey Color looks dead on I remember trying to build one of the Revell kits back in the day and never did get it to look good. I think I ended up using it as crash scene fodder, after the glue fire of course.

What is the bazooka looking thing on the pass window ?

Best ebay score I've ever had was NOS 1/1 car parts. I sell 1/1 Mopar restoration parts full time. Best ebay score model wise I think would have been a dark blue MPC 1971 challenger dealership promo, bought it for less than $100 - sold it maybe 2 or 3 months later for over $350. It was not in the right catagory and had no good search words in the add for anyone looking for such to find it. I stumbled on it by looking for something esle not even related to model kits/cars.

I build for me. My main interest is vintage drag cars and All I really set out to do is replicate what I can , when I can and with some reasonable effort. Once on my shelf , if it looks like the subject I set out to replicate,,,i'm good with it. I haven't entered a contest in over 10 years. I walked away from building several years ago ( still bought though when I saw something that caught my interest ) and just got back into it in the past 6-7 months. This past Feb. I attended my 1st swap meet / contest in over 7 or 8 years. And I barely looked at the contest tables. But,,,to be honest I was there to sell off a bunch of stuff that I'll never do anything with was my primary goal. I used to belong to the model club that put it on,,, and may someday go to one of the club meetings. If I do I'll take my daughter with me.She seems to have garnered an interest in building models .

Well done, young lady. Keep up the good work

Maybe someday I'll get back to it. I was never happy with the paint then I noticed there was no trim around around the ft + rear glass openings and the final nail in it my body worked cracked at the base of the pass side of the cowl ,, I got disgusted with it and put it away. On top of , I rarely do replica stock stuff anymore so the project is way back on a back burner

I love it. One of the best looking body styles from Dodge ever I think I know where the insperation came from. http://shannongrasso.com/

AFAIK, They're all 1/25th scale. I would think finding a complete engine in someones parts box would be a lot cheaper.
