  1. I thought the same thing! It reminds me of an old Steve Martin bit where he thought everything Mickey-D's made came from the same vat. "Splurtch, Big Mac...splurtch, Fries...splurtch, Styrofoam container..." That whole bullet thing will have the gun control advocates...dare I say it...UP IN ARMS!
  2. Great start. Nice work on the front fender flares and on pulling out those quarter panels.
  3. Kyle Petty turns 53 today.
  4. This should be very interesting...to some. http://news.yahoo.com/3-d-printing-goes-sci-fi-fantasy-reality-133123371.html
  5. You know, if you click the edit button you can add these to the original post. In other words there's no need for a post per car.
  6. A lot of guys naturally think that the obvious base for white pearl is of course white. That can yield a great paint job but it tends to fight itself. Especially under bright lights where you want to see pearls to get the effect. The use of a silver or gold (or any metal base) allows light to reflect from both sides of the transluscent pearlescents and gives a much brighter, more fun paint job to look at. Herbie the love bug is always my go to example for this. If you watch the original movie, Herbie appears to change color. While many bugs were used to represent Herbie, the constant is his appearance. All the bugs were painted with the same 1963 pearl white, yet in indoor scenes or low light he appeared to be a very light grey. In natural light settings such as the highway scene he seems to be stark white, while under studio lighting he was a beige or pale goldish color. It's fun to watch, but this makes many folks argue over his true color. The 1955 Lincoln Futura was one of the earliest cars painted in pearl. Although it was a "frost blue pearl white" many folks took the car to be seafoam green, but this was due to the color of the carousel the car traveled with. Pearlescent colors cause retinal rivalry. A condition where the throwing of light caused each eye to see a different color. When these two colors met in the brain, they made a third color as the color perceived. Thus is the fun of pearlescents.
  7. X2. You can come up with lot's of really cool colors by changing the base.
  8. It doesn't matter if the printing starts before, or after the U-turn, the turn stresses the coating that's already on the paper that gives you a printable decal surface. It can cause cracks in this surface coating rendering the decals useless after they've been printed.
  9. Thanks to all who have responded. I see no reason to drag this out any longer so I am locking it down now.
  10. As I have already stated, I did follow up with the store owner and it has been resolved to my satisfaction.
  11. I made the mistake of reading some reviews and I here there's a lot of "Get the heck outta here!" moments. Hopefully i'll forget about them by the time it hits PPV. Then again I loved Fast5, and it had it's share of them.
  12. I myself WILL definitely miss the thrill of opening and grokking a new kit right off the shelf if it goes that way. I would not however, give up the hobby because all my kits come electronically, from a 3D printer. I think most of this is typical knee-jerk reaction to something that hasn't fully formed itself yet. Remember, a lot of flowers are ugly as sin until they bloom.
  13. They did balance the tires. The ride is superb I must say, then again I was riding on balloons for a while there. I took it out on the highway last night and she rode like a champ. The shop owner did tell me he would give me a discount on any and all work next time I came in, and with an offer like that plus the discount received in cash I will give them another chance. I did tell him that in this economy I didn't want anyone from the shop manager on down losing their job, but I expected they would be spoken to about it. He seemed a little surprised at this. It is certainly his prerogative to fire them though if he chooses, but I am of a forgiving nature. Sometimes even idiots have kids to feed.
  14. How's this for Karma? I go to my local for lunch, and there at the counter three stools down, is the owner of the tire shop! So my buddy and I start talking fairly loudly about my troubles with the nasty looking tire. As was hoped for the owner caught on and asked if it was his shop. I threw the name at him and he said yup that's me. Pulled out forty bucks and handed it to me saying "Does this cover it?" It did. Thank you Ron.
  15. Jim- As I stated in my O.P., it looked like that "when I got home". Believe me, had I noticed it before leaving they would have scrubbed it clean before any cash was exchanged. Ron- The ironic thing here is, I was just in Canton a few weeks ago for my brother's funeral, and would be going back next week for my birthday...if I hadn't had to buy new tires that is. If you are talking about the Sam's club by the strip I know exactly what you mean. I know right where Struble is too. I used to live on 19th right off of Mahoning.
  16. I really don't want to bash West Virginia as a whole, but as far as wood county (Parkersburg) they seem to have their fair share of rude, self centered idiots. Heck, I had a 80 something year old woman litteraly shove me out of the way in line at a gas station! Maybe it's because i'm from Canton Ohio originally but I seem to notice more rudeness and a general sense of "I really don't care" around here. They won't be getting any more of my business, rest assured! It was bad enough that one of the local wingnuts went through the park popping tires. I've found out that several others here had their tires cut too. If I find out it was the local tire shop or an employee I'm seriously going to go off!
  17. It came off with some Dawn and a scrub brush.
  18. It's a matter of taste to be sure...kind of like if I were looking at pics of a Rustang and said "Where's the great car at"
  19. These guys don't seem to care. I complained at the time and they said the rain would wash it off. In fact one guy said "Just hit some puddles". Really? I felt like exploding right then so no, I will not be going back there. One more trip around with the scrub brush and I'll feel better.
  20. Thanks guys. I spent every dime I had and a few I didn't to get the tires so i'll see if I still have some s.o.s pads around. Otherwise it'll just have to be ugly till the third.
  21. Somebody popped two of my tires while I was out the other night, so I had to buy a pair. The left front looked like this when I got home. I went back to the tire shop, and was told don't worry it will wear off. Should I be concerned?
