  1. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. God bless.
  2. What cracks me up is that NOONE is downgrading drag racing but you gotta say "NASCRAP"? Nice!
  3. Luckily I missed out on that! I am sorry you had to go through it though. My mother has gone through two of them so I empathise.
  4. I have to agree with that...but only because it's such an adorable avatar!
  5. HAAAAhahahahahahahahah! In all seriousness though, stunning work as always.
  6. I think this illustrates my point perfectly.
  7. Anyone making them in photo-etch?
  8. Beauty of a 'Cuda! B)
  9. Hear hear! I myself am closing in on one full year without! I quit smoking after thirty years on June first last year! I feel great.
  10. Okay, smart alecky stuff aside I have a hard time wrapping my head around this as well. We know alot of noobs sign up without a thought to reading the rules, which is why we have so many without full names, breaking the no swearing rule and trolling...oh so many trolls, but the topics are all clearly marked and for the most part self explanatory. I give lots of quarter to our foriegn friends as the english language is hard enough with our multiple meaning words and such it's a little tough on them at times so I can understand one of them not getting it. Unfortunately, even they are prone to recidivism. (repeat offender). That is one of the things i'm sure gets under the skin is when someone repeatedly posts kit questions here in general or again, in the tips section. You could send each of them a message and explain it to them...IF you want to spend all day typing. Then of course you are forced to deal with topics like "Why are the mods so mean?" "Why can't we rearrange the whole site to suit me?" and of course the ever popular "Why are the trucks and cars segregated?" I have two boards of my own and if they take off, I can see having the same issues in the near future...and i'm dreading it! "Why are the mods so mean?" (Yes...I get the irony Harry )
  11. I really...REALLY, wish I had an answer for you Harry. I just don't get it either. Maybe it has to do with the same lazy, non scrolling characters. What you should really be asking is "are the people named "White" taking over?
  12. How do you hold the flies still to tie them?
  13. Camping, slot cars, diecasts and 1966 Batman stuff.
  14. I have a set of dental picks. They can be found at most surplus stores, and occaisionally at Harbor Frieght. There are several different tips and i've used the same ones for years.
  15. I want to make the assumption, that like most wheels cast in this manner, you poured silicone over the face, leaving a flat backside? Either way, more details about what you have done and some pictures might help. Here are some tips to start though. One: keep a toothpick handy. When you pour the resin run the toothpick around the circumference of the wheel to break up the bubbles around the lip and get them to rise to the surface. You can also use it to pop the bubbles that cause voids in the lug nut area. Two: Warm the mold for a bit in the oven at 150. Three: dusting the mold before pouring with baby powder will break the surface tension of the resin and help it flow. It will not affect the casting.
  16. There are some diecasts, from 1/18th on down. I think there was at one time a 1/43rd by Buccaneer.
  17. Bull. You can start casting and do very well for less than $250, I guarantee you. You've already got the biggest piece of equipment and that's the air compressor. You DO NOT need a vacuum chamber or pump! Those are rediculously priced accesories you can do without.
  18. Why not think better and think ahead? A regular pancake compressor is cheaper than an AB compressor, and does so much more!
  19. Okay, I can see this one going sideways real easy and the solutions are once again cut-and-dry, so i'm locking this one now before it goes off road.
  20. Okay, there's one suggestion. Not really presented in a very friendly or helpfull way but there it is. I'm sure if it were you Greg, you would at least appreciate the effort...then again given the cynical reply you just made maybe not.
  21. I've used Createx Wicked colors pver lacquer primer before, it works just fine. The problem here is the "adhesion promoter". It's completely unnecesary for these paints. Strip the model down to bare and make sure it's COMPLETELY CLEAN, then start over. With Createx paint I use Wal-Mart's Colorplace brand flat paints. They are .97 cents a can and will prime three or four full kits. Then airbrush your Wicked paints. As an aqueous paint, it needs to either be heat set in a dehydrator, or clear coated to lock it down. Createx's formula is alot like neons. They are a very soft paint and can tear easily but adhesion promoter only adds to the problem.
  22. I just had an interesting and nice conversation with one of our newer members about big, bold typeface and the fact most folks take it as being yelled at. During our discussion I found that like alot of us, his eyesight is going to pot! To be able to read his own typeface he types big and means no ill will at all. The real problem for him and many others is being able to read the responses that come to him, since most folks here just use the pre-set font size. So I put it to you, the members and mods here, is there some way we can accommodate our members with failing eyesight? Maybe they could add a symbol or brief message to thier signature lines to let us know to help out by typing bigger? I know this is alot to ask, but as a community and family I think it's our responsibility to help our modeling friends and make the site a little more user friendly for those with occular difficulties. Is this possible? Is there a way to pull this off without a major upheaval? Maybe there's a program they could be directed to that will help with this? What do you guys think?
  23. I would refuse! Riding in a car made of real "flesh and blood"...would just be way too creepy!
  24. The one at HL is a decent vid. It's on the rack by the Createx paints. As Derick has pointed out you can't go wrong with some Doctor Cranky, and you might want to look up member Donn Yost's videos here: http://oldmansmodels.com/
