1970 Roadrunner in 1978 Tapestry Red Sunfire
MAGNUM4342 replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The top two are outdoor shots but it was a little overcast so... Focus on the color! Here's what happens when you use cheap primer. Guess I can bust out that trademark now. -

...and before anyone can point it out, yes I know I forgot to sand off the trademark! (thanks soooooo much to grampa mgurk for directing my attention to it! ) -
1/16 MPC Nascar Petty Charger; a kit change just announced
MAGNUM4342 replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Tony, be prepared to be blown away! This is 1973 kit technology you're looking at, and it is STILL one of the most technically accurate NASCAR models ever made. A friend of mine recently showed one to Richard out in Fontana and the King was blown away at how well the kit had been restored to it's original glory. -

A little more sanding and the engine will have me right where it wants me. I also decided if I was going to paint a custom color i'd most likely have a friend with a rack so... Have to go with the full chassis paint job. I'm just loving this color more and more on this car. Spraycan gave out on the tunnel. The issue I was having earlier with the hood seems to have sorted itself out. -
Polar Lights Mach V Question
MAGNUM4342 replied to 64SS350's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Both kits are exactly the same size. The snap version has the underwater windshield and I think the auto Jacks. the glue version has an incorrectly opening trunk, but the aqua dome, auto jacks, and saw blades. All static. I want to see someone build one with working jacks! -
Polar Lights Mach V Question

I hadn't considered the 'cartoon' aspect of it Dan but you're right. That's a hard wild card to adjust to. I do think of all the cartoon vehicles they've modeled the Mach 5 is their best attempt at making it "real". Funny thing is I just realised I have a snap AND a glue on my shelf and yet I chose a 1970 Roadrunner kit as a slumpbuster. -

When the "solution" is the problem!
MAGNUM4342 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Kind of reminds me of the early gas lines in the first crunch. I was going on eight when it started and while waiting to buy gas and put it in the car's tank and every legal other container you had, what you would do is sit in line and idle with one foot on the brake, so that on a moments notice you were ready to move up so noone could squeeze in on you. This of course expended...say it with me...gasoline and exhaust. My theory is the hole in the ozone actually started because of the gas crisis. Well that's how it's worked out in my mind anyway. And it's fragile. -
Polar Lights Mach V Question
MAGNUM4342 replied to 64SS350's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
When it comes to scale the fine folks at Polar Lights/Round2 tend to play fast and loose with the rulers (get it? ). They also have thier Batcycle listed as 1/25th when it's much closer to 1/20th. They say that the kit, both snap and glue versions, are 1/25th scale but the body is visually about 1/32nd scale as does the interior, but the wheel tire combo is the diameter of 1/20th kits. This gives it a slight donk look due to it's unusually large tires and wheels. With a kit like this I usually relegate to the easy-build slump-buster section of the shelf. It's an easy kit to put together (snap or glue) and can be really fun if you let it. You just have to be able to let go everything you know about scale young padawan. Unlearn what you have learned. Which version do you have? Glue or snap? -

The decal sheet has the black hood stripe, red-orange-yellow spear stripes with matching hood spears and the suggested application is thus... The Plymouth decal is white. My problem is I can't find a way to place the color spears I like. I also have hood and trunk stripes from a 442 kit I like, but I think black doesn't look right on a car this dark red. I think what I might do, is mask the hood and cowl panel to match the black stripe on the sheet but spay it white. That will go with the Plymouth decals i'm using and I think will contrast nicely with the red. I just don't want to go high school ride and get crazy with graphics, but I want the car to have it's own look. I also have a couple of these to use too if I can find them! -
You have my full support! Keep not smoking and put that $5 a pack towards model kits. I hear building them can be very therapeutic.

Chrysler code RR7. I got it mixed for me at my local paint store. Conundrum time. I ususally get stuck on what color to paint a car for some time. This one was easy but now I find myself consternatin 'bout what graphics to use and contrasting color? I feel like the Riddler at the end of Batman Forever..."Questions too many questions...too many choices..." I paraphrased a little but the insanity's the same. -
It's Easter weekend and i'm taking a minute for me. This one hasn't been on the shelf, I just got it yesterday. It's a $16 buck free shipping find and I snapped it up. It will have the 440 6ix-Pack and some of the graphics from the decal sheet. A red and black interior and mild engine detailing. I'm not getting crazy here, just want a slump buster and this is the kit to do it. It's been a while since I had a minute to build one for me and I don't intend to go that long again. So without further ado... Gotta go paint the engine now.

And if you plan to eat alot...well, just watch the grease. Alot of modeler's have gotten ill lately and several of them from heart related problems. Don't become one less modeler. Eat healthy and be well.

Remember the B movie "Used Cars"?
MAGNUM4342 replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Either the original this post is about didn't sell or there's another on up on the bay right now. -
Okay, let the jokes fly and get it out of your systems for me not knowing this , but 1970 RoadRunner, 1970 Superbird...Same trunk?

I believe we just saw an example of RE, when Polar reverse engineered the General Lee to the Street Charger and then back to it's original form of the Petty Charger. It involves taking an existing kit and engineering a new or refurbished mold to resurrect a section that was too damaged or re-engineered too many times.

problem with alclad chrome
MAGNUM4342 replied to RANDY L's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Wow. This one's got me beat. I suggest contacting Alclad and telling them the whole process start to finish. I can't remember the guy's name but a few months back I contacted them about some chrome that had gelled. They could not figure out what happened so they just sent me a whole new bottle. It doesn't replace the kit, but luckily you can strip it and start over. As I recall it took two days to get my replacement. If he does come up with a reason for you i'd like to hear what it was 'cause this one has me scratching my head. -

That's a stumper then. I wanted to say it might be a reaction to the primer coat. Now I just don't know. Plastic or resin, and what did you use to polish? It could be due to the wax you used if any.
