Honestly, I never looked at the post dates. You could just as well have told him before I told you about my site. I just couldn't resist the chance to yank your timing chain a little...rattle your roll cage...see what I did there?.

I for one would like to see more dirt trackers represented on here...or anywhere. They aren't my thing to build but they are unique cars that don't get represented often on any of the sites. I grew up going to wayne county speedway in Ohio and litterally watched Greg Sacks go from dirt on up through the ranks to NASCAR. You spent four to six hours breathing in dirt (not dust mind you!) and exhaust fumes, eating fried things that should never have been put near a fryer much less in it, and you usually couldn't hear right for about an hour afterwards. AAaaahhhhhh good times!

Airbrush Questions

Get a 40% off coupon for Hobby Lobby online. They have a good beginner's video. All you should need for the air compressor is a water trap and pressure regulator. -
Actually, I think the 1/16th Street Charger kit just happened to be on the same page as the truck that never was and Casey didn't mean it was a "never was" kit. The Street Charger was issued twice after the Petty version. First in black as the "Street Charger" and later in red as the "Charger street machine". ...and yes, later on again as the General Lee. I would LOVE a set of the wheels in the red version!

Personally, I think it has to do with laziness, and the "I don't really care about you i'll get to it when I get to it" attitude. Customer service is but a fantasy these days. Then again, thirty years ago you had to send an order in snail mail, with an order form ripped from the back of a catalog. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

what are you work bench must-haves?

Bright lighting, opti visor, various tools, assorted glues and paints, emery boards...Pepsi. -
Each team is different. They all have a process they believe in. Back in the day, when markings were painted on Lee Petty did not care. In many cases the sponsor and numbers were painted on the car the day before and in some cases the day of the race. Usually this left no time to worry about the look of the car beyond the lettering and numbers being right. When vinyl numerals and sponsorship decals became available Richard Petty started having the men in his crew wax the cars between 12 and 16 times, then the decals were applied. The decals came with a glossy surface to begin with but never were they clear coated or polished themselves. To me this facet falls under team research, but I highly doubt any team cleared thier car's markings. If the model is properly painted and the decal properly applied it will not dry up and flake off for the life of the model. However, if one were to choose not to believe this, and clearing the model gives them peace of mind I see no reason why not to. It is here that for me the accuracy question falls flat. Throw it out the window because of this: YES, you are making a replica of a race car. However the race car in question was made from steel and it's decals most likely made from vinyl. Both pretty durable as long as they aren't struck by some thing hard...like another car, AND they are not expected to last long. The replica model though, for the sake of argument, is plastic, quite often painted with inferior to automotive paints and it's 'decals' are thin layers of paint over a clear glue. Substantially less durable than the 1:1 and in need of an entirely different assembly process, materials, and a completely different attitude against damage. Then one must consider the new age method of "painting" modern race cars with huge sheets of heat applied plastic, which is as glossy as the hot wheels stocker on the shelf because it's decorated the exact same way.

71 Charger base model stuff
MAGNUM4342 replied to realgone58's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I can't help with the hubcaps but Missing link might have them. I have the Flat hood for the '71/'72 Charger. I am also working on a trunk and taillight panel. P.M. me about the hood. -

I just love declarative statements like that. Round2, and all it's employees have the same fondness when it comes to car kits. Film cars, and race cars. When it comes to race cars they looooooove Petty. You can bet your house, your hiney and your housecat that one will get a re-issue in the not too distant future. Between the 330 and the Plymouth, there were about what, eight versions of the two...maybe more? That's alot of real estate covered in one Dodge and one Plymouth. R2 also likes changing out decals to stretch the sales as well. The Lawman will eventually get released. When it does it will have decals from the R2 artshop and not Lindberg. They just acquired the company and the ink isn't even dry yet. Give them a few months to finish inventory of the molds, facilities and assets. As more recent tools, and some of the better tools coming from Lindberg in the last decade or two i'm certain you can expect to see them repurposed soon as R2 gets time to work something up...a little kangaroo told me. P.S. In my opinion Fred Cady decals are junk! Anytime you have to register a decal yourself by layering?! It's 2013...you can do much better on your own these days than Cady!

As far as the product or the person you have no reason to worry with Jimmy Flintstone. He's basically one of the founding fathers of the resin cast model car sector. And you don't get old by being a fool.

You did a really good job. I had to look close to see the telltales.

how to remove left over bmf glue from paint

A drop of goo-gone on an old t-shirt. -
I've been sneaking in here taking the occaisional peek and I like what you guys are doing. Chuck- My guess on the green was going to be "Gouge your eyes out" green. I pulled up that first picture of the interior and my cat, who WAS sitting on the arm of my chair, blinked twice and slowly left the room! Casey- I have long wondered why there aren't many builds by the mods here. I see now you were just resting up. You and I have had our dustups but you really do put alot of thought and work into your builds. I would most likely have left the inner fendertops alone, counting on the paint to dull those sharp details. That would have been the wrong move. Kudos on your attention to details. I like your paint choice too, but then who wouldn't after seeing Chuck's wicked witch of the west colors! Just kidding Chuck, you know I loves-ya!

Terry you are absolutely correct. It just goes to prove I have too many mopar's on my eBay watch list! My mind got a little muddled and I don't know why I wrote "Fury" other than i'm human.

You know what's wrong with that Petty car right?
-
For a quick, easy and nice build there's plenty 1967 Satellite/GTX's out there at a decent price. For the rivet counters, There are resin '66's out there as well as originals. To build either Petty 1966 or 1967 you need a 1966 Fury. Richard ran the '66 model both years and only massaged the front end sheet metal to resemble a '67 model car. I've recently seen a couple older kits, promos and resins for sale but they don't come cheap. Most go for $80 and up.
