Annoying new ebay scripting practice
MAGNUM4342 replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I had those issues as well and made my complaint. It hasn't happened for me for several days. -
Mechanical mistakes when building
MAGNUM4342 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got up this morning all geared up to do some modeling. Then I started reading all of this thread. -
Nice build. I'm just glad you didn't add those garish Barris touches.

Hobby shops in Colorado Springs
MAGNUM4342 replied to SFC_Allen's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nooooooooo! That was one of the best hobby shops I had EVER been to! I was living in the springs about the time "Pearl Harbor" came out. One afternoon I walked in to the store and Karl (japanese descent) asked me what I had been doing. I said I just went to see Pearl Harbor. As is his sense of humor, Karl looked me right in the eye and said "Oh yeah? What's that about?" He was hysterically funny and a great guy. I hope that he is doing well and has been able to move on to something bigger and better. If anyone has contact info for him please p.m. me. -
YUP! As a matter of fact some of them worked more than one job at a time.

I am going to go ahead and take a little offense to that. I am disabled and as a matter of course I have to receive medical benefits as well as food benefits from welfare. Just what makes you think I am a lesser person than you because of it?! You don't know my story and have no right to make that judgement!

Stepping On Toes (not your feet either)
MAGNUM4342 replied to MoparWoman Jamie's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
All that should matter is that the man got the help he needed. Life is too short, move on and be happy it's covered. -
Understood. I have a sister who is color blind. I would think though, with that condition you probably shouldn't be trying to tell folks what color something is right? I mean I'm not trying to be rude, although I'm probably coming across that way. But that's a bit like someone with no depth perception trying to describe distance.

Okay, ummm...I don't know how you are seeing orange, but the original Eleanor was code 2157 yellow.

Do you mean the original 1974 movie?

Correcting deformities?
MAGNUM4342 replied to Fabrux's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks for the tip Gregg, but i'm very happy with the supplier I have now and have never had an issue with any of my parts...so far (knock wood!) -
I agree with Andy. However if you're dead set on painted lettering, I use a mechanical pencil to draw the lettering on. You have more control than with a brush and if you use a magnifying visor it works even better. I use the same method on tire lettering.

There is no "soft black resin", resins are pretty much the same hardness across the board. There are however some poly-vinyl materials out there, as well as several grades of castable rubber. I can't do anything about it now, but if you haven't found a solution by the end of the month give me a shout and i'll see if I can help.

Correcting deformities?
MAGNUM4342 replied to Fabrux's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
As a resin caster, I would not expect anyone to fix one of my parts, nor would I send something like a large grille in an envelope with or without protection. I also highly doubt this is the first time this has happened if he ships that way. Standard opaque resins are notorious for heat warpage and the interior temperature of a UPS or USPS truck box, can exceed the 110 degree mark on an 80 degree day. Always ask how the item will be shipped and see if you can get it shipped in a box where there will be airspace around it. To fix the part, I agree with the above. Run some tap water, just hot enough that you can't hold your hand under it for long. Then set it on the counter for about four minutes. Then place the part in it and have a flat surface to place the part when it comes out. Resin is a lot like memory foam in that it should pull itself back to it's original molded shape. Unfortunately once it does you have to handle it very gently to get it to retain it's shape while you remove it from the water and set it aside to cool. You may also have to tweak it gently. For stripping resin, there are all sorts of fun horror stories. Some brands of resin are affected by Easy off, while others are affected by brake fluid. They can be turned into a gel in mere minutes by the wrong cleaner. Unfortunately this is a 50/50 leap of faith. You'll either lose the part or not. All I know for certain is the resins I use from Raw Material Suppliers is resistant to Easy-Off. I hope at least some of this is a help. -
SPOILER ALERT! Thanks a lot Erik.

Wow! just...wow. Very nicely done. I think Tim would be very proud seeing this. Thumbs-up!

paying it forward
MAGNUM4342 replied to ratrodder51's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll have to agree with the "overthinking it" idea. Pay it forward has actually been going on for some time, prior to it being made into a big deal. If it's a small part that only costs me a dollar or two to ship it out, i'll help the other guy out. Maybe one day i'll need something, and he'll remember and return in kind. Maybe he won't have what I need, but someone else does. I've even turned down trades before, just to eliminate the needless back and forth of "can you use a...", "No, do you have..." It gets to be like a game of go fish, and honestly for me the warm-fuzzy comes from just knowing I helped a friend and/or fellow modeler. Now it seems like a contest of "Look what I gave away!" and that cheapens it. Doing nice things for people doesn't require a special section so the person who did it gets recognition. Remember this...Batman doesn't ask for thank you's, the Lone Ranger never sticks around for a pat on the back. They just do what they do and ride off into the west. They don't need anyone to tell them they did a good thing. Just my 2 cents. -
More often than not, the drop shadows were dark blue, almost a NAVY blue. However, some cars of this era did occaisionally have black drop shadow, so either is correct.

Those look awesome! It's the 1974 Charger by the way.

Explanation of police terminology requested
MAGNUM4342 replied to charlie8575's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
If I may join this conversation, I once heard the term "threat level" in conjunction with Kevlar. I'm pretty sure I know what it means, but could one of you explain please? -
