  1. Why would you want a 1971 Roadrunner with 1972 bumpers? Wouldn't it be easier to just as for a 1972 Runner?
  2. Petty Enterprises ran Ford for one season after an argument with Plymouth. Richard wanted to switch to Chargers for 1969 and Plymouth said "No, you are a Plymouth driver". Richard responded telling them noone was going to tell him what he could and could not drive. He went across the street (as he put it) and struck a deal with Ford. Realising thier mistake, Plymouth created the Superbird for 1970 specially for Richard Petty. It worked and he came back to Plymouth in 1970. As for the Kit car. No brand loyalties don't run that deep, bur Richard was all Chrysler in 1972 when they had the Dart. It was hauled by a Dodge truck. When AMT paired the Dart kit with the Ford hauler Lee blew his stack and made AMT pull the kit from production. This is why the combo kit is so rare. Being a very easy going sort Richard was just going to let it go, but his mother Elisabeth held the purse strings for the team and she urged Lee to take care of it (as if he wasn't already on it) and get the kit production stopped. If AMT does re-issue the combo Lee will be turning over in his grave.
  3. There's word that they are re-issuing the Kit car as well as the hauler truck, but I doubt they will reissue them as a combo again. They'll have to get Richard to okay it and he most likely won't given thier reaction to the initial release. I wrote to Doug Ridge at Polar Lights and i'm hoping to hear from him tomorrow morning. I will definitely let you now what, if anything, I find out.
  4. Nice paintjob! SHHHiiiiiiinnnyyyyyy!
  5. Just beautifull. Out of all the MOPAR's i've owned over the years, this is "the one that got away". That paint is like glass, and Plum goes great with the b&w interior. You get five outta five as far as i'm concerned.
  6. I have heard the truck will be re-issued but after the first go round I doubt greatly that it will be paired with the car again.
  7. Well personally I needed some good news today and the return of the Petty kit car was it! I have tried litterally dozens of times to snag an example of this kit on ebay, but the price always goes higher than I can pay. Even for junk ones! Now I can get a couple or three of them for what I would have paid for an original. I'm very happy.
  8. Aaaargh! I just traded away my Stude earlier this evening! What do you think of the AMT Chrysler 300 HEMI?
  9. This is actually a three parter. I would like to know, in your own opinion, which kits in 1/25/24th scale has the best: 392 HEMI? 426 HEMI? Modern HEMI?
  10. That might be, but I guarantee it won't be the combo kit. Lee would be spinning in his grave! This thread worked out much better than I would have expected. I am now locking the thread. Thanks to all respondees.
  11. I'm done with NASCAR. I stopped liking the cars back about 1988 when they all started looking like 200mph eggs.
  12. I've sent a message to a friend at Polar Lights to see what he says. Most likely it will be the original kit or they wouldn't identify it as a "Petty" car, but we'll see as soon as he gets back to me.(probably monday).
  13. You mean the Petty dart!?! EDIT: Just looked them up...YIPPEE!!! It's been too long since this kit was around. I can't wait, and i've never been so happy to have a thread rendered moot!
  14. ( I only have 2 of them so it's not going to be me ) Isn't the L.A. Dart a rear engine car like the Hemi-Hunter? If so I can't use it because it doesn't have the deck lid.
  15. That would help. I just bought the LMS Dart kit by AMT (same as the Petty kit but different body), so really the body and bumpers are all i'd need. Thank you. I'll start looking for the transkit.
  16. Seems a little tedious...but might be worth a try, and you can't beat the price.
  17. Yes, but I can't justify the cost of an original for a builder. If the 1970 or 71 kit will convert easily i'll go that route. The AMT kit was a short run, and when they made the release with the Ford hauler, Lee and Elizabeth (Richard's mother) blew thier stacks and had it pulled from production. That's why there are such low numbers of it out there. Thanks for the tips guys.
  18. There's been alot of chatter lately concerning the new 3D printers. I personally am all thumbs when it comes to creating three dimensional drawings. I am wondering, has anyone thought about 3d scanning? I'm thinking if I can get a company to scan an item, then I can have the digital scan printed out in virtually any size I want. I'm thinking in terms of taking a 25th scale wheel, scanning it and printing it out in 16th scale. What do you guys think?
  19. I must be one of those sad addicted losers too! A little bit ago I got the old "internet explorer cannot display...etc.". Now that i'm back on i'm afraid to close the page! Thank God for tabbed browsing!
  20. Va-Va-Varoom! Great idea but...how you gonna keep it on the ground?
  21. I've been wondering about this one too. Plenty of NASCAR versions out there...I want my street!
  22. VERY realistic weathering. I think it's the subtlety of the weathering that makes it work. Almost get the feel you could start it up and drive it to autozone!
  23. I eventually want to build the Richard Petty Dart kit car which was a 1972 car. Was one (other than the Petty kit) made by anyone? Or, failing that would there be another year Dart that's easy to convert?
  24. LOVIN that Buick!
  25. You mean Herpe the love bug?
