3-D Printing is now affordable
MAGNUM4342 replied to Darren B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree. I would love to see some test shots myself. This is just about affordable for me. My real hangup is the 3D artwork. I've tried it and just can't get a handle on it. -

MAGNUM4342 replied to Darren B's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That 6x6x6 will do a lot of stuff if you think about it that is not normaly done in resin. Now if you want to spend the extra $300 and up grade to a 8x8x8 that will be able to do about any body you like other then a stretch custom. -
1/16 MPC Nascar Petty Charger; a kit change just announced
MAGNUM4342 replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Stefan, My first contact with this particular kit was back in 1982. I was a Petty fan club advisor for the state of Ohio. My family and I went to Pocono that year and I wound up helping out with the fan club meeting as the Pennsylvania advisor couldn't be there. I bought the Petty and Baker 1/16th kits from a vendor there and was blown away. Having actually spent time inside of the #43 Charger I was absolutely amazed at how well MPC had captured all the details of the car. I suggest replacing the vinyl hoses and spark plug wires. The Petty's used either black or blue spark plug wires and the rest of the hoses were braided with A&N fittings. That will make it even more accurate. Richard himself it turns out, had given MPC access to one of the backup cars and every bit of help he could at the time. It paid off big time. If you like NASCARS and larger scale cars you cannot go wrong with this vintage piece no matter what colors you put on it. P.S. Word is at least one aftermarketer is doing Baker decals for this car as well. -
Box art has had little influence on me. Sure sometimes it's cool looking but back in the seventies I bought alot of the plain-brown wrapper kits like the Aurora mailers. Probably as many as printed boxes. It's all about the plastic.

durablity of bare metal foil
MAGNUM4342 replied to topher5150's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For a quick, temporary fix, I would get some microscale foil adhesive. Clean the area VERY thoroughly. Then apply the adhesive, per bottle instructions to the gold foil. Attach, burnish and trim the foil as you normally would, then coat the lense with Pledge with futureshine. That MIGHT hold for a few months or even a year or two. Good luck, and if you try it, please post some pics. -
There's a pestilence upon this land! Most of my friends here already know, I left this website several weeks back. I left because I was made to feel unwelcome by a certain moderator. This mod followed me around for several days straight (although he denies it!) moving, editing or deleting every single post I made for about three days straight. I am only able to put the blame on one particular mod due to the fact that I watch the list at the bottom of the main page as a matter of curiosity, and his was the only name in bold red appearing as this was going on. It wouldn't have been an issue with me if I had truly been screwing up...but the fact remains almost NONE of those posts were any different than posts others had made including the mods. Apparently a mod is allowed to give someone a link to an ebay auction but I was not. Just one small example. A few weeks back, this particular mod gave a friend of mine a warning point for language he had used in a private message...A PRIVATE MESSAGE! There is absolutely nothing at all in the rules governing language in a private message and having discussed this with another mod, it was found that the warning point had been wrongfully given. A private message is just that...PRIVATE, no matter who it's between! As of today that warning point STILL has not been removed! Another instance, where a member openly posted on the board that he did not understand why the word C R A P was hit by the site filter as it was not a swear word. A moderator responded to him saying that he didn't understand the claim because the board let HIM use the word. My good friend...as a joke...wrote in that it sucked and that it was a bunch of c r a p that it wouldn't let him use it. Of course the filter turned that into #####. Another warning point for this oh so hienous infraction was given. WRONG! The friend I am talking about has never used any foul language on this open board and I challenge anyone to go through his some 2,500 posts and find one single instance! He has reported many instances to the mods of open swearing so I don't know what makes any of them think he would swear openly here! Someone else here recently described the moderating here as "Hitleresque", and it seems to me, that when a mod is allowed to run rampant over a board and treat it like his own personal Disneyland, then something needs to be done about that mod! MANY of you know already exactly whom I am speaking of and for the rest of you it doesn't take the faculties of a Sherlock Holmes to figure it out! He may be a good trader, he may have good insight or great building skills, but none of that gives him the right to carry out a personal vendetta against anyone. I am not speaking for myself here. I no longer care what goes on at this site overall. There are alot of other modeling sites out there that don't have heavy handed moderators like him. However my best friend has been wronged and for some reason Gregg won't do anything about it. He won't even answer any messages about it for whatever reason. I know he's a busy man, so it falls to the other mods to do something here. I am calling out right now for this moderator (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!) to be removed from the moderator team or to be suspended entirely for his actions! The moderating team are not gods and should be just as subject to disciplinary actions as anyone else here for thier wrongdoings! I am not afraid to call out a mod when he is wrong because I don't care if I get thrown off a site I already chose to leave, but you folks are all chosing to stay and live under his tyranny. It's high time you started speaking up for yourselves and make this person accountable for his actions! Now then, i'm certain like any time the truth is told, that this post will be taken down and swept under the rug, but I have high hopes that at least a few of you will see it, understand what and whom i'm speaking of and call for action. Good day and good luck!

Decalgear decal software feedback
MAGNUM4342 replied to Prostreet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
In a word, NO. The entire testors decal making line is garbage. The paper has a tendency to roll up like a window blind as soon as the glue releases from the paper. Stay away from this product. -
Mopar cars that should be cast!
MAGNUM4342 replied to Green Duster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Like Stan Lee would like to forget the live action TV Spiderman, i'm pretty sure Chrysler would like to forget the dismal K cars. -
Well, you can just keep all the snow for yourself. I mean it, not a greedy bone in my body. I've seen my share of snow and then some and I just feel it's high time someone else enjoy it. While you're at it you can feel free to share it with the smart alec's in Vegas and Arizona too.

Okay, now that's just flat out cool!

Welcome to the forum Charlie. Is there a particular car or era you're wanting to replicate or are you asking in general?

"CRANKENSTIEN"(a small tribute to the "doc") DONE! 11/13/12
MAGNUM4342 replied to bryan_m's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I like it! You could change the cleaners to four leafed shamrocks though. -
How bout this. "If a job is worth doing it's worth doing right...if it's not worth doing, give it to Revell!"
-
Yes it is a model car as Jacen outlined. It is NOT a model car YOU BUILT. It was pre-built by a factory. It IS however a model you re-painted. Now if you had torn it completely down to where it started you could say you re-built it. I know, I know...just call me captain technicality.

'73 Chevrolet Chevelle- Mastered by Tom Ellifritt
MAGNUM4342 replied to W-409's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That is most likely the 1974 Chevelle by AMT (or the Model King issue) converted to street form. -

I'm a big fan of mix-n-match (commonly referred to as kitbashing) and the more options there are the better, but if I gotta pick one I concur, let's do buckets and console. The Laguna deserves it. -
There are alot of cycle kits here. Alot of really NICE cycle kits. It does have an exceedingly simple solution to the situation. Click on the bike threads...DON'T click on the non bike threads. I personally like the "other models" section because variety is the spice of life. Would it be more to everyone's liking if the aforementioned Alien figure were made into a Star Wars style motorcycle? I doubt it. (although it would be pretty cool to me ). Unfortunately saying you don't want these "other" builds here is the same as saying you don't want these other builders who did them here. It's not a huge section but it has it's following. I say let it be.
