'73 Chevrolet Chevelle- Mastered by Tom Ellifritt
MAGNUM4342 replied to W-409's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Thanks Robert I'm open to a street Laguna for sure, since I want to build the Cannonball Run car. So if Tom is open to it (after the other two cars are done) I would be open to working with him on it. -

The red and blue parts are the MPC Chevelle and are just for comparison. I also snagged an early eighties metal Caprice kit, and I know there was some discussion about a resin kit. The diecast kit I have coming needs some mods to make it correct, but if any casters are interested give me a pm. -

Here's some more. So guys, do you think one of these would be a help or a hindrance? -

I snagged this one off of ebay a few days ago. I'm thinking there might be something usable here for the '73 project. It's the AMT re-pop with both a 73 and 74 nose clip. I checked it against the MPC S3 nose and except for the MPC unit being a bit taller in the fender sides area it lines up perfectly on the AMT body. I didn't take any pics of the engine or cage since it's the body we want. I can post more pics if needed, like the bare bones interior tub and such. The open clip is the 73 and the closed off one the 74. After seeing them here, i'm going to try and get some better pics. -
You are askin alot guy...I don't even remember what I had for breakfast this morning...I gotta quit sniffing my ten cent glue tube!

I know. This is why I say "The smarter our phones get, the dumber people get!" UPDATE: Jacen will be going home on monday. Since he is my mentor in resin casting, he has given me the go ahead to cast the MAGNUM. If I do it would be a curbside with just the body, four wheels and a bottom plate. It would need blacked out windows.

Unfortunately he was hit in an intersection by a teenager...texting of course! He actually asked me not to say anything on the board because he's just an anti-sympathy type of person and doesn't want anyone thinking he's looking for some. Oh well, he'll just have to be mad at me I guess!

There's actually a quite extensive collection of these cars. Aside from the MAGNUM, There's a '64 Petty Plymouth, 1970 Hamilton and Petty Superbirds, I think they did a 1971 Roadrunner, there's a 1972 and '73 Charger. There's also the Buick Regal and a few different Pontiacs in Petty colors. I have a Superbird, the MAGNUM and both Chargers. When Jacen gets home in the next week or so i'll ask him if he wants to cast any of them. I wouldn't expect them to get done real fast though as he's going to be recuperating from an accident. I think he also has a '71 Cyclone. They are cool little kits but quite simplistic. Thier major shortcoming (as Jim mentioned) is thier decals. They were worth using for about the first five years they were available then degraded badly. Don't expect any of them to be spot on body wise either. Don't get me wrong, they are nice little kits but the overall accuracy in the body department is like 85%. I do believe Starter of France is defunct. Most of thier kits can be easily found...unless you want the Petty kits. Then...well as they say...go big or stay home.

Keep in mind too, there were three versions of this car. The 1971 which was white with red numerals and graphics, and the 1972 under STP sponsorship which had white or Petty Blue graphics. I know Jacen has a slew of pics, so when he gets back i'll ask him to post a couple. -

There is one on evilbay right now. Your best bet though, is to get the AMT kit and convert it by adding the necessary NASCAR goodies. I know Futurabat is in talks right now to see if the entire MPC NASCAR lineup can get re-issued, or better yet, re-issued with updates. Naturally they are hesitant and are wanting to wait until they see how the 1/16th does. A few years back (prior to Round2) there was talk of a re-release of the Petty RoadRunner, but the molds were apparently shot. Now that they have a handle on reverse engineering certain things it's a wait-and-see proposition. *Please do NOT post links to eBay per the forum's no selling rules. Thank you.* -
Polar is in the midst of re-tooling the Street Charger version right now. Originally scheduled for a December release (for the Christmas rush) it will most likely be hitting our shores late Jan, or early Feb. 2013. Since the car depicts the 1973 Charger, the goal is to have it ready in time for the anniversary of it's win at Daytona. A little bat told me.

Revell thinking about NASCAR again
MAGNUM4342 replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I should have been clearer. Once upon a time the series was open to several different engine displacements. Now thier all 358 c.i. I wholeheartedly agree that alot of guys like myself are ticked that vintage subjects are being ignored. Why shouldn't we be? Don't we deserve to get what we want as well? What's wrong with that? If Revell is going to ask the builders if they want NASCAR subject, they should be prepared to get requests from purists, oldtimers, newbies and all other facets. Those of us who desire 50's, 60's and 1970's era cars are just as deserving as those who want the CARP (word jumble) of the future and current model cars. Martinfan, we're good. No harm no foul. Check the smiley. ( ) -
I had one of these as a youngster and never had the guts to tackle it. I ended up giving it away. Seeing how nice it builds up i'm tempted to get another one. Nice job!

I would show interest if they were vintage cars. Something with shape...style. These scrubbing bubbles they run nowadays can hardly be told one from another unless you look at the sticker on the nose. I'm honestly suprised the France family hasn't started thier own assembly line factory to stamp chassis plates, sheet metal and the like to supply to the various teams. They all run the same blocks, rear ends, and trans. It's just not "stock cars" anymore. I understand and believe in all the safety innovations, as those are a necessity. To me though, they're all nothing more now than 200mph billboards. -
Your thoughts and prayers please

John, I am so, so sorry to hear of your loss. Especially to lose someone in such a senseless way. I will pray for strength for you and your family. God bless. -

So where are we with this? Can we see some update pics please? -
Ahem...for a start, "whiskey jugs" can be seen in the Beverly Hillbilly's kit. It's the proverbial "little brown jug". However, for a proper moonrunner what you would want would be mason jars. Moonshiners found it much easier to transport and control in crated mason jars like grandma used to have preserves in. There were wooden and eventually cardboard crates available to place the jars in. The jars were often wrapped in or had hay stuffed around them in the crate to protect them. As for scale items I don't know of any makers of either.

Stylin' Cues--Where Do You Find Yours?
MAGNUM4342 replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When i'm out-and-about my eyes are constantly moving. If i'm not the one behind the wheel, i'm looking at shapes, colors and textures. It's the same for me as going to the craft store. I check everything and everywhere because you never know when or where inspiration will hit you. I can ascribe alot of modeling inspiration to the numerous greats out there, many of whom i've seen on this very website. I just can't bring myself to narrow it down to just people and thier work. I've taken styling cues from water as well as aircraft, buildings and public artworks. Of course 90% of it I ascribe to an overdeveloped imagination. -

Okay guys, response to this thread has been phenomenal...and NOT in the way I wanted. This kit is already earmarked for a special purpose, that I prefer not to go into here. With that said... PLEASE STOP SENDING ME PRIVATE MESSAGE OFFERS. The bike is NOT for sale, NOT for trade, barter or anything else. With that said, I believe I have found what I wanted to know elsewhere. Thanks to all who have taken the time to respond. Even the guy from Australia who suggested I build it. -
