  1. Allow me to be the first to welcome you Clyde. I would love to say "clean build" but that's not really right for such a well done dirt tracker is it. Nice build. As you can see i'm a Petty fan myself so I hope to see more of your work.
  2. I'll agree to disagree, if you'll allow me some clarification. If you are building a model for your enjoyment on your shelf, go with the burger king thing. If you are building for competition or just stiff realism, then research of the actual vehicle is required to get all details right, cleared over decals or not.
  3. I agree with what dat guy ^ said!
  4. Hopefully Drew can put a timeline to how long they've been using those kinds of graphics. I gave up on NASCAR when Adam Petty died. This is how I think of those graphics though. Imagine you just bought a brand new kit, and the box itself is plain white, because all the "photos of painted and assembled model" are on the shrinkwrap instead.
  5. Huge difference here. the photo I posted is of a car with an actual paint job and nascar approved stickers applied. The photo posted by Drew, is of a car that every inch of graphics are on a huge sheet of plastic and applied by a heat gun. There's no comparison at all. It still boils down to personal preference. I don't know what you are trying to prove Drew with one photo and no text? You'll note that I did not dispute your post nor did I offer any bodily harm. ( i've had that happen too). Bottom, line everyone should build burger king cars. Have it YOUR way. if you like glossy and your decals protected go for it! If you want the decals on top of the final coat, do it that way. It's your model. There is no wrong way. I will say that properly applied decals are just like bare metal foil. They don't NEED to be clearcoated if they are done right in the first place.
  6. I've been up close and personal as well. Each team differs in opinion every bit as much as the builders here. I can tell you that the King, requires his cars always recieve twelve coats of wax prior to each race. Note that there is a high gloss shine everywhere except the numeral decals.
  7. Doesn't fit. I would use many of the cage components to build one of these cars but in no way would I ever use the horrid Polar Lights chassis.
  8. When my son was about five, he asked a very valid question. If the Coyote can buy all that stuff from Acme, why doesn't he just go get KFC? I didn't know how to explain metaphors to a five year old so I just said "He doesn't like fried" As a huge fan of Looney Tunes i'll be watching this one.
  9. Nah! It's "Victim's relief fund" paint! My advice? Delete the message and move on.
  10. Eric, you took my comment about your name as the joke it was meant to be right? I suppose it is a good idea. Might be nice to check with the OP BEFORE changing thier thread though. I guess being a mod means never having to say you're sorry.
  11. Are we taliking replacement beds for something along the lines of "The Fall Guy" truck?
  12. Yes, the eldest boy from "My three sons" Don O'Grady passed just over a week ago and some woman whose name escapes me just now, who was one of Lucille Ball's nieghbors on her sho the day before him.
  13. He will definitely be missed. He's the first of a second round though Harry. There was the guy from "My three sons", Lucy's nieghbor, and Andy. Now there's Ernest, so who is going to be #2 and #3 now?
  14. Sorry, but to me it boils down to two things. One is that some folks are just too lazy to scroll down and click on the proper tab and two- it's sour grapes from some whiney-the-poohs who think they have a better way to set up the forums. Maybe they do, maybe they don't but it isn't thier forum so they just whine about why it isn't set up thier way. The preceeding statement is not directed at the O.P. All sections are clearly marked. If you can't be bothered to scroll down to the trucks section or whatever section you need whose fault is it?
  15. Depending on the type of headliner, i've used masking tape, velour ribbon and flocking all to great success. The masking tape may have looked horrible to you, but i've found it to be quite usefull and good looking when done properly. It also makes for a very convincing vinyl roof. If there is ribbing in the headliner Jesse, add them using strip styrene like evergreen or plastruct. Then give each section a thin coating of testors cement and overlay your masking tape starting at the center and working your way to the outer edge. It can be burnished down much like bare metal foil. Then simply trim. Velveteen ribbon, found at most craft stores can be used as well. Allow the glue a full day to set then trim with a fresh blade. Some folks have used adhesive backed felt but to me it's too thick and the adhesive niether holds well, or plays nice with glues. Embossing powder, which many folks use in place of flocking can also be found in the stamping section of craft stores. Apply it just like you would flocking. There are some options for you. To develop a technique I sugget getting some junk or gluebomb bodies to practice on.
  16. It looks like you already put more effort into it in the first hour than whoever built the boxcover model. I hate it when such a lackluster build is used to represent the kit. I'm enjoying what you're doing with it. Like myself, you appear to be a minimalist when it comes to putty. I need some popcorn to watch this one.
  17. I do apologise Bill. It's a horrendous habit i've had since childhood to point out such things. Please understand I was not trying to diminish what you've done here at all. What you did for those kids goes way beyond the expense of 25 or so models plus supplies. You are an exceptional teacher to have done this for them and I hope in the future more teachers will follow your example.
  18. I believe he meant- "Come on guys, this site..." Unfortunately he doesn't seem to understand. Wether it's for everyone to enjoy or not, there still has to be rules as well as an easy to follow layout. Does nobody here realise it's impossible to please everyone all at once? Alot of folks here, not necessarily that poster in particular, but alot seem to feel the place should be set up THIER WAY. Rather than the way the site owner wants it. When they start paying for the site (or thier own) they can set it up any way they want. Until such time, just appreciate the site we have for what it is. How about it?
  19. That's a good thing and the kids did a wonderfull job. I'll say what we're all thinking though. Those are NOT Charger Daytona's.
  20. Now here's a nostalgic thread! Growing up as a young boy in the early seventies, I remember buying lots of kits at the multiple local hobby shops. I also picked some up at places like Kroger's grocery stores, Ben Franklin's five-and-dime, Demmer's hardware, the drugstore, Woolworth's and Kresge's (which became K-mart) Basically, model kits were everywhere. Such a hot and popular item with a great profit margin that everyone and his brother was selling them. I remember seeing an old Aurora Chitty Bang Bang kit at the hardware store when my dad went to get supplies for a porch he was building. Fortunately he needed to go there several times and each time he went I was right there with him bugging him to death for that kit. Finally he was heading there for the last item he needed and wouldn't let me go! I was crushed!...until he came home with the kit. In 1972 that kit cost a dollar. Fondest of memories. :)
  21. I have a relatively small place with central air but it's not coping well. With heat outside topping around 105 degrees a couple days the a/c fought to keep it at 84 inside. It's been set on 76 but doesn't reach that until late into the evening hours. I feel really bad for those who are trying to cope with just fans. I had a fairly big window unit, and there was an older lady down the street who was sitting all day by a southside window in her home with a box fan going full pelt. I got a young college fella and a couple of his frat brothers together and we installed the window unit for her. She brought us donuts!
  22. They make "American" cars??
