Nobody Remembers ? ( Chris Ekonomaki )
MAGNUM4342 replied to TooOld's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There were posts on the NASCAR modeler's forum which I commented on. It just didn't occur to me to post it here too. Chris was the voice of NASCAR and one of the nicest people ever to grace the sport. He will surely be missed. -
Cheap craft paints
MAGNUM4342 replied to hooterville75's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Check around on google guys. Nearly every site i've looked at says acrylic paints only need to be "heat set" when used on fabrics. On a solid non-porous surface they do not. -
Cheap craft paints

 Too freakin funny! Pat you started your last post with "Jesus, another ambush reply!". "ANOTHER...ambush reply". Why do you think that is Pat? Do you suppose it could be the arrogant, condescending way you talk to people? Your use of bold red I'M MAKING MY POINT AND YOU HAD BETTER LISTEN typeface? Or maybe it's the way you talk down to people? I'm not really sure. What I am sure of is that yes, there are acrylic paints out there that need heat set, but apple barrel and ceramcoat do not need to be heat set when used on a model kit. I should do my research? Trust me sweets, I have! For many many years now. If you want to be part of a discussion, ANY discussion you should stow the attitude and speak to people in a general, even and friendly way, and you won't have to make statements anymore like the one I quoted at the beginning of this post. Have a nice day. -
I don't understand that because my camera takes hooge pics and they've always posted. Most folks here use a site like Photobucket or Fotki. (I personally do not like Fotki but to each his own.) I've never had an issue with this site or any other accepting my photobucket pics, in fact Futurabat uses it too. Another thing you could try is (and I admit I don't know what your operating system is) take the pics into paint shop before you post them and reduce thier size there before uploading them. Another question I would ask is, do you have a macro setting on your camera and are you using it. My camera is set on macro and as you've seen I have no issues with posting any size picture.

Clyde, you really gotta get over this fear of posting your pictures here. You do realise the site will automatically resize them for the posts right? Many more people will check out and get into your builds if they can see them here where they should be without having to follow a link.

What about Hoodpins?
MAGNUM4342 replied to skymnky721's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
PE pins are fairly easy to score through several aftermarket companies. I have some I grabbed at Toledo that have two sizes of plate as well as Cotter and locking style pins. In a pinch you can use an appropriate size piece of tubing. Sharpen the end and use it to cut disks from bare metal foil. Then add your sewing needle and wire from a picture hanging kit. Use stranded wire and unwrap it so you only have one strand. That way you have the smallest wire possible. -
I can agree with that. It is a nice color combo too.

Uuuuhhh... not trying to be a jerk, but what's the "tribute" part? All I see is a wingless bird with a little bit of light blue on it? There's no Petty indicia, it's a total street car...I don't get it.

One very different ebay auction listing

Dude is Sheening...hardcore! -
Unfortunately I think it was an old video and the $10 introductory price was over with, but it's still a better value at four times the material for the same price. Here's the site: http://www.micromark.com/ho-scale-decals-with-raised-3d-rivets-and-other-surface-details,9968.html

Mopar cars that should be cast!

NOSIR! -
I had this one as a youngster too. Mine didn't look near as good. Of course I don't think I ever finished it! Nice job.

Why are there no custom decal makers?
MAGNUM4342 replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Noone's asking for charity James. Casey is the one who hung out a ten dollar a piece price tag and I don't get where you see that I am asking for charity. Thanks to the more HELPFULL folks here I now have some good leads on where to get my decals made. Since you obviously didn't read all of what you quoted, I already layed out the balance of price per piece vs. the cost of setup. Is it a conservative estimate? You betcha! Does it deserve the rambling and belittling rant you just layed out? NO! -

MAGNUM4342 replied to Green Duster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You're not just whistling dixie there! I have been a fan of his work for decades. He continues to astound. What I wouldn't give for him to master a MAGNUM X/E! -
Well Clyde, I hope you see this first. I have those decals, but there's a better choice available if you look around. There's a guy that has actual Charger decals available. The 1985 decals are missing too many markers that the Charger has. Secondly, the 1/16th Street Charger is a 73/74 style not a '72 and although based on the original 1973 Petty Charger kit it IS a street vehicle. Finally in two months the 1/16th Petty Charger kit should be on the shelves. Round 2 is re-issuing the kit in it's original form and trust me on this...you'll be much happier with it. This kit is still being touted as one of the most accurate NASCAR kits...EVER. If you do have or get a 1985 kit, the engine would be a great swap item for a 1974 to 77 Charger.

Or a nice lemonade stand! That should get you the cash in a month or three.
-
Me Too!! But I had to google "rivet decals" and that's how I found this!
-
Clyde, for a first attempt at a kitbash, you've done a very admirable job at capturing the look of the car. Are there issues as far as total accuracy? Sure. However you are in a learning curve right now so focus on what you did right and well, and be very proud of this build. When it comes to the next one those things will be second nature and you can focus on what you want to improve. My little league coach once told me "There's no shame in a swing and a miss as long as you did your best and learned something". I think you've done a great job and i've seen the real car up close. Alot of us chimed in to help out, but you had the guts to ask for help. Thumbs up my friend!

Model Car Box Art
MAGNUM4342 replied to HOLMES55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Round2 feels the same way Harry. Just look at the recent Batmobile kit my buddy Jacen helped with. There's a beautifull illustration on the box top with photos of the actual kit around the sides. This is the way they all should be done! I'm with you. By the way, I don't mean to turn this thread into a Round2 advertisement. I'm also sorry I don't know how to use the multi quote. -

MAGNUM4342 replied to HOLMES55's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can thank Doug Ridge and Jamie Hood for the bulk of the innovations from Round2. As for flash, believe me they lament the amounts of flash as well. The thinking is thus- mild mold reconditioning costs less than a complete recondition or retool. This is money that is better placed going towards new tools and licensing as well as printing tree shadows on box bottoms. Consider this- Round2 is about to release a three foot long 1/350th scale Enterprise (Star Trek) model. Combine the licensing of such a kit with the cost of those molds? I don't mind cleaning up a little flash to see such things being released. Want more big scale car kits? Lettem do thier thing. -
I know that sometimes what makes sense to some does not make sense to others, but when the majority collective agrees, even the government gives right of way.

MAGNUM4342 replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I smell bs here. Okay lets say you did pay $700 up front. I guarantee there are at least enough people here with enough want lists that would pay $10 bucks a pop. That's 70 decals. Do good, quality work and you'll make that in no time! Want to argue about the cost of cartridges too? With people paying on ebay regularly at $12 to $25 a sheet for decals there's no excuse. If it's not something you want to do for the love of the hobby, to help your fellow modelers OR for profit? I won't hold it against you. But don't try and sell me bs.
