Greg Myers Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) This is something that has always bothered me, In media and here on the MCM board . "Cobra" "Mustang" Not the same. Edited April 2, 2015 by Greg Myers
Greg Myers Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) When I was teaching, back in the '70's , my students often referred to these as "Cobras" . So I had my work cut out for me. It does say "Cobra" on the side. I can see how they may get a little confused, though. Edited April 2, 2015 by Greg Myers
johnbuzzed Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Nope, definitely not the same, but licensing sez "yes"... much the same as the Torino Cobra, too.
Joe Handley Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Considering the second pic, I'm surprised they even noticed the craptacular little car!
Stray Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 We had a 'Cobra' over here too. A limited run of XC Falcon Coupes that received the moniker and a distinctive paint job. Greg Myers Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 Don't get me wrong, I like all of these cars, Cobra II's and Cobra Falcons as well, it's just when people refer to these cars as "Cobras".

If you think the Cobra moniker is overused, how many different Spyders have we had? Edited April 2, 2015 by Jantrix
Greg Myers Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) I don't know, looks like a spider on the hood to me . Edited April 2, 2015 by Greg Myers
blunc Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 this is why I refer to the original "Cobras" as "AC Cobra"
Snake45 Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Nope, definitely not the same, but licensing sez "yes"... much the same as the Torino Cobra, too. There's no such thing. There was a '69 Ford Cobra. It was built on the same body as the Fairlane and Torino, but it was NOT a Fairlane or Torino. It was just a Cobra.
cobraman Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Bought a brand new 1978 Mustang King Cobra right off the delivery truck in 78. Never thought for one second that it was a Cobra. It was a fancy Mustang, nothing more. It was a cool car however. IMO
Greg Myers Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) I think so too, Kool wheels and all. I know they were a blast to drive. Just the thing for the times. Edited April 2, 2015 by Greg Myers
Jon Haigwood Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 I classify it as Shelby Cobras (true Cobra) and Ford Cobras(promotional Cobras)
Art Anderson Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Man, that is a sexy car. If you think the Cobra moniker is overused, how many different Spyders have we had? Well, considering that "Spyder" is very much a generic word as opposed to a marque of automobile, it's a word used to describe all manner of vehicles by their respective manufacturers. It's even used as a corporate name as well. Art
Greg Myers Posted April 2, 2015 Author Posted April 2, 2015 (edited) what makes them a "Spider / Spyder" ? Edited April 2, 2015 by Greg Myers
chunkypeanutbutter Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 Uhh... I dunno what defines "spyder," but they seem to always be two-door sports cabriolets.

dartman Posted April 2, 2015 Posted April 2, 2015 "King Cobra" ? My buddy had one of these back in the day.The only thing it was king of was slow.At the time I had a fairmont with a 2.3 that I had mildly hot rodded and would whoop up on him all the time.

mrindy77 Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 I'm quite familiar with that King Cobra. I worked next to it for a couple of months.
