The '66 Mustang "junkyard" I just bought on eBay seems to have a number of Sonny & Cher parts included:

Looks like you hit the jackpot with that one.

I too have a '66 annual, should check it against a S&C instruction sheet to see if any of the custom stuff carried over.  If I were to try to piece those together right now (ha!) I'm short one hood among other things.  Casting the hood is something I was expecting to do though, and won't be a big deal.  I should check my casting supplies and order fresh material if needed, before the snow flies...

If you're casting a hood, I could use one for the above. The hood is the only major piece I'm missing. In fact, I think all I'm missing to build TWO of them would be one more body shell and two hoods.

Here's one I did in 2016.   I combined the AMT 66 with the AMT 67 GT for a more detailed chassis.   The Body is very nice.  Interior is workable.  The body is better than the Danbury Mint diecast, which had a flat nose.   The bodies and wheels were the star of these kits back in the day.

That's a great looking Mustang, Randy! B)

Thanks. It's name is Sally.   My wife wanted Mustang Sally.   I have the green JL GT500 that I call Sam.   Mustang Sally and Mustang Sam, living together in Mustang land (in our case, the mantle) ....  you have to be old enough to remember Captain & Tenille.   And that may be the FIRST time they have been mentioned on this or any model car forum.   now back to the topic at hand...

I'm even older than that. I remember America.

I do too... and not so fondly.   Just not my thing.  Had a friend that would drink too much and start playing that Horse with no name song.

Despite the simplicity of this kit, it is one of my favorites.

It just looks "right" To my eyes my Revellogram Shelby GT350 has always looked weird in the front.

It's not a song--there's no tune. It's a boring, inane poem with rhythm instruments.

When I get too drunk at my local watering hole I play "I've Seen Paradise By The Dashboard Lights" by Meatloaf. It's easy to do with the TouchTunes app on my phone, and nobody but me knows who played it. ?

Oh, and I don't want to be political by mentioning the name of a certain President, so I won't. I will say that when that unnamed President was a reality TV host, I really enjoyed watching Meatloaf on a celebrity version of that reality show. His hot mess public persona was 180 degrees from the real person. Enjoyed watching the unnamed future President ask if he should call him "Mr. Loaf" or if he preferred "Meat". ??

Stop right there! I wanna know right now.....B)

That was one of my favorite seasons of that show. One of my alltime favorite moments was when John Rich told Meat that if he lost that week's task, HE (Rich) would personally donate a matching sum to Meat's charity (which was IIRC a kids' thing called Painted Turtle).  What a stand-up, classy guy! That night I became a John Rich fan for life.

Randy,

I'd sure like to see an underneath-pic of Mustang Sally, (that sounds borderline weird!). I'm still working on an improved chassis under the '66 Mustang project that I'm in the middle of, and would like to see a pic of your '67 Mustang chassis underneath her.

I'll see what I can do.  It's still on the mantle and not too hard to get to.

I guess I realize that now (buyer beware), but I didn't when I purchased it, because I have a few other "retro kits" from AMT that don't share this same problem. As for just enjoying a trip down memory lane...I'm 29 and have been modeling for about a year or so, so there's no nostalgia in it for me. I may be new to the hobby, but I'm patient and I've built enough kits to not be intimidated by more complicated builds. I struggle more with achieving high-quality paint jobs than I do with detail building (using included parts, I've not dove into wiring engines quite yet). I guess the real reason it bugs me is because I paid the same price for it that I've paid for much higher quality models...if it were significantly less expensive, I wouldn't be as annoyed. Oh well, lesson learned...I'll probably just keep it around and use a few of the nicer parts for other builds (roll cage, tires, chrome pieces), and at least I can use the body as practice for my new airbrush that's in the mail or maybe even use it to practice weathering. I'll definitely pay more attention to these "retro kits" before I buy another one, as I was under an assumption that this level of detail was only found in snap kits, and I'm simply not eager to pay the same price for this level of quality as I do for superior products.

I've gotten to the point where I go online and look for reviews if i can find them, or pics if I can't. If its a kit I really need and there's no option I'll buy it with the knowledge of what I need to do, or settle for.

I'm 63 and do have memories of the old kits, but I don't care for them.

Check these out.  I forgot the steering gear obviously.  But you don't notice it on the shelf.  Looks like I had to do some work at the very front of chassis.  I don't remember.  And I think I cut the fender Wells out of the 67 and glued them in as well.

Not too hard to do.

User kimherd38 on fleabay has some resin bits for S&C Mustangs that just popped up lately. Hoods, grilles, tonneaus etc.

They have some other stuff too, looks nice but no idea who's casting. Look pretty nice though. Was waiting to find out more before buying.

Peony Pony and the Countdown Series (and all subsequent issues are derived from the Promo body, with the hood opened up). The best of my knowledge the tool with the removable hardtop is still in the Sonny & Cher configuration. It would take a GREAT deal of rework to make that stock again.

s-l1600.jpg

The new issue also has a bunch of previously welded off parts from the Superstang Gasser variant of the Mach 1, Autolite Special/ Iron Horse kit. Before it got those rather poor Shelby wheels, it had the Rader Wire Mags left over from the Iron Horse kit that supplies the running gear and a slew of custom parts to this kit. I believe it was Tim Boyd, who did a Mustang history in SAE back in the 1980s. I have or have had many of these kits in my collection, and it all jibes with my parts layouts, etc. Note that although they refer to it as a 1965 Mustang, the model inside is a 1966. Note the one piece promo style body and chassis. I stand behind my statement that all AMT 1966 Mustangs from the Peony Pony on, are based off of the promo tool that originated in 1964.

Dave,

Thanks for the info on the previously welded up parts now in the Mustang kit !!!!!

TY,

Pete L.
