Lizard Racing Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 There is also a Jo Han '70 Javelin. Here are two Camaros and the Javelin from the survivor topic. Old kits can be made into Trans Am cars. For a newer one of tube frame construction, a NASCAR chassis could be fitted to a production body, but by then the bodies were altered also.
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) Rook much rike Minirites...but onry 4-bort hub... Edited May 12, 2016 by Ace-Garageguy
Jhedir6 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Some minilites on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/161955907141?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITAnother kit, if you can find one, is Perry's Resin '69 Camaro TK. I have one, but haven't seen one for sale for a really long time.
Crazy Ed Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 I can't speak to the latest release, but the AMT Studebaker Starliner Coupe used to come with a really nice set of Minilites.
Greg Myers Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 If you have any kinda stash there's gotta be some in there somewhere. I think there were a few '70's Mustang kits that had them also, not to worry, they're all over,
Daddyfink Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 The 240Z was a national championship winning car in SCCA C Production, not the Trans Am. The Porsche 911 was (dubiously) classified as a "sedan" due to its having 4 seats - the car was disallowed in 1970.If you want to convert stock kits to racers, '66 sand '67 Novas were raced, as were a '64 GTO and a few VW bugs and '64-'65 Falcons and Comets. Then there was the Group 44 '66 Dart...True, but , its still a nice Road Racing machine.
Dave Van Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 SCCA C Prod was just the 'armature' version of SCCA Trans Am. I was crew chief on a SCCA C Prod team (3 years 1 win at Charlotte ) and our 260Z Datsun was a Trans Am 2nd hand racer. The difference between SCCA club racers and SCCA Trans Am car is mostly in name in the early years and even when T/A went tube frame cars the specs for club SCCA cars followed soon after.
Edsel-Dan Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 AMT offered the JoHan George Folmer Javelin/AMX kit tooback in the EARLY 70'sI have 3 of themThey were sold through Coca-Cola ads, and in storesThey were Mark Donahue's Penski car!!!They could be either Trans Am or Nascaras Mark did drive in a FEW 71 & 72 Nascar events For Pernski The Jav/AMX was used until the redesigned Matador came out in 73.After Mark's Death, Bobby Allison joined Penski's Nascar team
Dave Van Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) The Javelin did not run regular NASCAR Cup events before 73. They used the BOXY Matador to little success. You are referring to Roger Penske racing correct.........not Penski??? Edited May 12, 2016 by Dave Van
Edsel-Dan Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Yes Rodger PenskeSame as wning 2 $ 22 now He only ran select events befor getting Rusty Wallace as Driverin 70-72 seasons he entered Mark in mostly the Riverside races Do you remember when they had THREE races there at Riverside??!!!!!! That Matador is a 72 isn't it??I though the Javelin was run in 71, or the First few events Mark drove
Snake45 Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Did Smokey Yunick's Camaro ever run Trans-Am? I know he built it for NASCAR "Baby Grand," but I don't recall ever seeing much about Baby Grand. Did that only last one season, or what?
Daddyfink Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Grab a Polar Lights or AMT GTO and have fun! Or Monogram, if you want 1/24th
Crazy Ed Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Grab a Polar Lights or AMT GTO and have fun! Or Monogram, if you want 1/24th Just remember to sand off the GTO emblems, 'cause the "Grey Ghost" was a LeMans.
Dave Van Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Grab a Polar Lights or AMT GTO and have fun! Or Monogram, if you want 1/24th There was a real nice resin body of the Pontiac.....I did the decals for the kit....still have a few for those wanting to attempt.
afx Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 There is a good article about the "Grey Ghost" in that useless book I recommended. The car is unrestored, preserved in its 1971 state and still competing in the vintage racing.
Jon Cole Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 The Grey Ghost reminds me of this beast. A build of either would be great.
vamach1 Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 This one is about 80% done. I'm working on the engine compartment. I "stole" the interior from a diecast model.
oldcarfan Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 On this subject, a while back I was told Patto's Place of Australia has a lot of decals for thesetypes of models, but their website seems impossible to navigate. Does anyoneknow how to search it and if they have decals for Trans Am?

Impalow Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 (edited) There was a real nice resin body of the Pontiac.....I did the decals for the kit....still have a few for those wanting to attempt. Jimmy Flintsone has a resin body of the gray ghost... not on his website yet, but at the shows.. Its one of his nicer castings, very thin and crisp, the only issue is its seems to be based of an old annual kit. My dad purchased one at the Detroit show, as well as the polar lights and monogram GTO's, it definitely wasn't based off either of those... totally the wrong size/scale.. in the end we cut the resin body up and vacuum formed the the fenders and quarter panels this way we can adapt them to the polar lights kit. Do you plan on casting this body Eric?
