Harry P. Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Some of you may know that I have been having some fairly serious health issues lately, and I thank all of you who have responded with your good wishes.Specifically I have been having very severe pain in my left hip area, especially at night, which has literally kept me from sleeping at all for many nights. And of course, after a night of pain and tossing and turning and not sleeping, you feel like crap the next day, and it builds from there day to day. Not a pleasant experience.I met with my doc today to go over the results of blood tests and X-rays. The blood tests didn't seem to show anything out of the ordinary... at least the doctor didn't say anything, so I assume if there was any sort of danger signal he would have mentioned it.But according to the X-rays, I show signs of degeneration of my left hip... at this point, arthritis, basically.Doc said I need to see an orthopedic specialist, and maybe have an MRI done on the hip. At the very least, an injection to ease the pain... but I won't know the verdict until the orthopedist sees me. So the next step is to set up an appointment with an orthopedic specialist and try to pin down exactly what the heck is going on.That's all I know at this point.
MrBuick Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Best of luck! Being in so much pain or discomfort that you can't even get a good night's sleep is the worst.
GT4494 Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Wish you well with whatever they find. Not knowing is the worst feeling. with medicine nowadays there is a high degree of succes with whatever you need. As one that has almost as many man made joints as originals there is a path forward.Good luck..
Nacho Z Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 (edited) This may sound odd, but I glad to see this. This can be taken care of. There are many other prognoses with much more dire outcomes. I know this will not be a walk in the park, (see what I did there..), but I really am glad to see it was not worse. Hope the doctors can come with a plan to ease the pain. You may not believe me but a have a beautiful hip replacement piece in my hobby room. It is the ball section. It was a sales demo piece. I'll send it to you if you need it! wayne swayze Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Been through a LOT in the last decade, including a total hip joint replacement, which erased the pain immediately! I hear ya when you say you can get kinda grouchy not getting proper rest, but so many things they do today are so routine, there's not much to worry about. You have my sympathy for your state, but you'll be fine Harry. Be prayin' for ya!
High octane Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 X rays should give you a heads up on what's happening, and maybe a cortisone shot will ease the pain form awhile. I went through that with both knees. Good luck Harry.
SfanGoch Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 If there was anything out of the ordinary, your doctor would make sure that, after himself, you'd be the first to know. No news is good news. You're gonna be fine.
slusher Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Harry, sorry you are in pain but the news could be worse. I know someone who eventually had to have a hip replacement. This may be something that can taken care of with medication. I am pulling for you Harry...
Ace-Garageguy Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 If there was anything out of the ordinary, your doctor would make sure that, after himself, you'd be the first to know. No news is good news. You're gonna be fine. Yup. Excellent news, Harry. Nothing terminal.
Harry P. Posted June 14, 2016 Author Posted June 14, 2016 Yup. Excellent news, Harry. Nothing terminal. That's why I am cautiously optimistic. I have to admit, I feared the worst. And you can imagine what went through my mind.
Roadrunner Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 It's not a fun thing. A few years ago, I blew out a disc in my spine, busted wide open like a runny egg. My Sciatic nerve got involved, and I had the same mostly sleepless nights for about two years. I saw a neurologist monthly for about six months, then slowly it began to heal. I still have "issues" from time to time, but mostly all better now.Get well, I'm sure it'll turn out OK.
maltsr Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Glad to hear your news, Harry. I sincerely hope all goes well.
CometMan Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Good luck, Harry. Like others have said, while joint replacement may not be exactly "routine", they are common enough that they help the issue a great deal! Get better soon!
Dave Ambrose Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Good luck, Harry. I hope you can get this resolved without major intervention. There's a reason they call us patients. We have to be.
GTJUNIOR Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Happy to hear that it does not seem to be anything life threatening. I trust that all will go well and you will be back to your old self in short order. Wishing you all the best and keeping you in my prayers.
slusher Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 That's why I am cautiously optimistic.I have to admit, I feared the worst. And you can imagine what went through my mind.I do know what goes through your mind kinda. I went through so many MRI scans and they believed I had a tumor but The specialist a brain surgeon diagnosed I had MS after a weeks of worry.. Sure made the lesser not as bad....
Ramfins59 Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 I wish you luck with everything Harry. Getting older does suck sometimes as various body parts start to deteriorate, but it beats the alternative... Hang in there Harry.
bobthehobbyguy Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Good news Harry.Couple of thoughts. How old is your mattress? In the past when I've had back issues and other sleep issues that have been related to a mattress that was too old. Second have you made a chane in your daily routine recently that may be contributing.Keping my fingers crossed that 6ou will find relief.
JTalmage Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 tried sleeping w/ a pillow between your knees? might help with the hip pain if you sleep on your side.
gbdolfans Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 They say that if your mattress is 8 years old it is time to replace it.Also, the idea of a pillow between your knees works!!! It does help me. I have a terrible back and leg issues. Hang in there and you will be back to your old self Or better and you won't be so grumpy!!! Just kidding,it is no fun not feeling good.
Lunajammer Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 That stinks. You're too young for that kind of old duffer pain. Did you ever injure it that might have hastened the development of arthritis?
Agent G Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Sounds positive. Here's to successful treatment.X2G
cobraman Posted June 14, 2016 Posted June 14, 2016 Good luck and try and stay positive. Hopefully all will be fine in the end.
