Aaron_F Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) This is the new Revell kit, modified to look like an early/mid '60's altered. Here's what I did: - Tamiya Light Pearl Blue paint. -Decals are from various reissued AMT kits. -Suspension components painted with Alclad chrome. -Wheels/tires from Revell's Orange Crate. -Rear axle from SW&C Willys, ladder bars from AMT's Rat Packer Nova. -Interior has flocking, bucket seat and steering wheel from the SW&C Willys. Detail Master seat belts and photo etch buckles. Scratchbuilt, too tall, flimsy looking period correct roll bar. -Rear push bar made from Evergreen. -Kit engine has plug wires and fuel lines. I used a front cover and fuel pump from an AMT '37 Chevy. -Moon tank and '32 Grille are from revel's '32 5 window kit. I chopped the grille and cut out the center. Thanks for looking! Intmd8r Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Great work!Nice color choice too. Love the wheel color, really does look like magnesium wheels from back in the day.
James2 Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Nice looking Model, your choice of color, texture and finish adds all the right realism!
TooOld Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 That's sharp ! Very nice work and the color is perfect !
Harry P. Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 That's a real nice looking model. You used bits and pieces from all over and really pulled it all together nicely. Very well done. I'm impressed.
Dennis Lacy Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) When I opened this my jaw hit the floor! Aaron, this is seriously fantastic and my new favorite version of this kit. The colors, the styling, the proportions - it's got 'em all and at the same time it just looks all-business. PS: The magnesium finish on the wheels is superb! Please tell how you achieved it. Intmd8r Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 PS: The magnesium finish on the wheels is superb! Please tell how you achieved it. My guess would be Alclad II Magnesium, but I would love confirmation of this
Phildaupho Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 You really captured the look of a great era of drag racing. Extremely well done.
Aaron_F Posted July 5, 2016 Author Posted July 5, 2016 Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm really pleased with the way this one turned out, I think it's my best work yet.The wheel finish is actually "Detail Gray", from Eastwood, sprayed over Tamiya gray primer. They meant for it to replicate bare steel, but I think it makes a better magnesium finish...
Roadrunner Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Pretty cool. Yet another kit I may have to add to my "to get" list.
larman Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Right on the money!! I have kept a Fotki album of every build of this kit I have seen posted on here and the Spotlight board, and I like this the best! Outstanding.....-Larry
