RancheroSteve Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 It's done! The Accurate Miniatures kit of the Mecom Racing chassis #003, driven at Sebring by A.J. Foyt and John Cannon to 23rd place. Mostly out of the box, with a few aftermarket items and some extra detailing. There's detailed build thread here that should answer most questions, but ask away otherwise. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/111989-1963-corvette-grand-sport-update-81616/ It ain't perfect, and there are a small list of things I would have done a little differently, but I'm mostly pleased with it. Thanks for looking - comments & questions welcome.
randyc Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 VERY NICE. Those can be tough kits to build. Yours is as nice as any I've seen; better than the 3 I built. Look Great!Randyc
MrObsessive Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Steve, that is dang near perfect! I don't see a thing wrong with it! The stance is dead on (VERY important for this car!), and I love the blue line tires you added-----that's a nice touch! I had to save your pics.........these'll give me some inspiration if I ever get around to doing mine. I've got THREE of these including Harold Bradford's excellent roadster transkit.
RestoModGuy Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 It turned out amazing. I was following the build and was blown away at your level of craftsmanship and to accurate details. This is a show winner for sure
Phildaupho Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Very attractively built model of a truly iconic race-car. I know these Accurate Miniature kits are considered very challenging but you have certainly done it justice. It is regrettable AM went out of business as I think they had a FIA 289 Cobra in the planning stage which I am sure would have been very popular.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 Great looking model, important car as Phil already said. Your fine work really makes me want to tear into one.
RancheroSteve Posted August 30, 2016 Author Posted August 30, 2016 It is regrettable AM went out of business as I think they had a FIA 289 Cobra in the planning stage which I am sure would have been very popular.I was really hoping for that FIA Cobra - one of my favorite cars ever, as well as one that's never been kitted.
Silver Foxx Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I love the look of these Grand Sport , they look like real race cars . Your build is really nice work , it looks great , well done . Got a couple of these to do myself .
bbowser Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Wow! With the right backround it would be hard to tell its a model. Congrats.
935k3 Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Great job Steve. I wish I would have built mine when I had one. I would probably solder the photo etch vents for strength.
txfatboy Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Good looking car. I have a couple of these waiting. i also bought a few of the upgrade parts and the photo etch set. Hope mine looks as good as yours.
RancheroSteve Posted September 1, 2016 Author Posted September 1, 2016 I would probably solder the photo etch vents for strength.A good thought, but there's not really any need to. As I mentioned in my build thread, they're a pretty tight fit once they have some paint on them - I didn't even use any glue. The other possible reason against that idea is that they need to be painted before they're assembled (as the instructions advise) - I think it would be tough to get a decent finish on them once they're put together.
Mike C Posted September 1, 2016 Posted September 1, 2016 Very nice build. I built one of those in the mid 90's.
