CapSat 6 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Well, duh- sorry. That one doesn't have a trunk rack. This one does:
Mr mopar Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 (edited) The Luggage rack is different from the Corvettes ,on the Mopar luggage rack the back is mounted to the trunk . where the Corvette one is not . Edited October 6, 2017 by Mr mopar
Rob Hall Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 The Luggage rack is different from the Corvettes ,on the Mopar luggage rack the back is mounted to the trunk . where the Corvette one is not . That doesn't make a difference. Both are mounted on a flat surface at the back of the car. They definitely look like similar racks.

Both are mounted on a flat surface at the back of the car. They definitely look like similar racks. Took me a minute for me to see the difference, but those are definitely two different designs. The one on the Charger has a separate "arch" (?) on the back that has mounts on both ends, at the bottom. The one on the Vette has an "arch" that's integrated with the sides and front frame of the rack, as one piece. Tough for me to describe, especially when I'm not fully awake yet...
Rob Hall Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 Yes, minor difference in how the back framing attaches..I'm sure there were different variations made by different suppliers. If the kit 'Vette part resembles the photo, it would be close enough in 1/25th.
CapSat 6 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I'll have to see if I have one of the 'Vette pieces somewhere. From what I remember, it looks very similar. I'd probably take a crack at modifying a Corvette piece to suit rather than scratch building it, I think that would give a better looking result.
Mr mopar Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 There both wrong ,but I think you can make the revell one work ?
Robberbaron Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 (edited) I think you can get one of those either from the MPC (now Round 2) '75 Corvette convertible kit, or the just released Revell '69 Corvette Coupe. It's in all versions of the '75 kit, but only in the latest issue of the '69. My understanding is that Mopars and Chevies used the same rack, probably from the same vendor. Recently got the Retro Deluxe reissue of the '75 Vette, and didn't remember the rack. Dug it out of the stash and, sure enough, there it is on an UNPLATED tree! Seems kinda strange... Another option is the MPC 1980 Monte Carlo. This one is chromed at least. Looks like MPC might have duplicated their design from the Vette, sure looks like the same basic design. Didn't have them side by side though. Sorry as usual for the lousy pics from my tablet. Edited October 7, 2017 by Robberbaron
dimaxion Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 The truck had either a horn ring or under the center padding...didn't realize Mopar had a Rim-Blo steering wheel, only place I'd seen those were on Mustang Mach1s.My '70 AMC Javelin had a Rim Blow . It was a SST .. Thanx ..
Mr mopar Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 some info on the luggage rack looks like the measurement is 43"x19.5" .
unclescott58 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 I'm not a fan of deck mounted luggage racks. So I don't have to worry about this one.

gtx6970 Posted October 8, 2017 Posted October 8, 2017 If anyone has a spare or 2 of the luggage rack. I need 2 ...maybe even 3 if I can get them
tim boyd Posted October 9, 2017 Posted October 9, 2017 The AMT/Ertl 1972 Corvette Convertible kit, first issued around 1991 or so IIRC, also has a luggage rack. As noted above, the GM and Mopar racks are slightly different, but I plan to use the '72 Corvette kit rack on my replica of my 1/1 factory-ordered '74 Road Runner E58, to which I added the luggage rack (it was still a Mopar dealer accessory even though no longer factory orderable by '74) after I took delivery of the car. I did not remember the luggage rack from the '75 Corvette annual kit or the '80 Monte Carlo kits, thanks for the info guys! TIM
Joe Handley Posted October 10, 2017 Posted October 10, 2017 (edited) My parents 50th wedding anniversary is coming up on Saturday and while my Kid Sister was going through pictures for a collage shaped like the number 50 she found a couple pictures of the '70 Mom and Dad had before I was born! While when they ordered it in late '69, Dad didn't want anything that stood out to anybody who might want to run against it.........or write the driver a ticket, hence the somewhat subdued appearance for a musclecar, he didn't skimp under the hood! This was a factory 440 Six Pack 4 Speed, Super Track Pack car! He has said that at one point he was running L60-15's on all 4 corners of the car too. Edited October 12, 2017 by Joe Handley

gtx6970 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 (edited) I picked up a couple yesterday. With my current plans for these, I'll need at least 2 more.So far my initial impression it looks pretty good. Also,,,,,Is my mind playing tricks or did they tone the door scallops down a touch from the 68-69 body? ( I may need to pull an earlier body to compare them for myself ) Edited October 11, 2017 by gtx6970

Matt T. Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 The door scallops are more refined. I like them better than the ‘68/‘69 versions. This ‘70 kit is awesome.
Mr mopar Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 (edited) Well I just got my two kits................ I Can't believe Revell did not put the Reflector in the tail light it was new for 1970 and a saftey item ,the whole rear tail light panel just does not look right . Ok I see what the problem is Revell made the tail light flush with the panel ,where it should stick out a bit. then it might look better . Edited October 12, 2017 by Mr mopar

It might have required a slightly higher parts count (by maybe two parts), but we've seen more complex parts from Revell before. Maybe someone in the aftermarket will come out with a fix.
