curt raitz Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Just another model a friend had started, gave it to me and I finished it. Body was already painted, decals were shot...replaced with a set from "Pattos Place". Picked up the "Historic Racing" Ford V8 conversion kit from another one of my modeling buddies. This is a model of the Ford GT-40 which won the 1966 24 hours at Daytona Beach driven by Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby. Thanx for looking'... 1
bbowser Posted September 2, 2017 Posted September 2, 2017 Sharp work Curt. What color did you use on the wheels?

Peter Lombardo Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Curt.... I love it... it is the model of the Ford GT that I need to get....You did your usual great job on it. this is the last Ford GT I need to build.... Looks perfect.
vamach1 Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 (edited) Two thumbs up on a great job. I have an old magazine article from 1993 (FSM) on building that same model with those markings. Edited September 3, 2017 by vamach1 Pics
Bill J Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Really great looking, excellent work. On side note, the HRM GT40 engine is a small block Ford with Westlake heads and 4 weber carbs. It was made for the GT 40 MkI kit of the 1968 and 69 LeMans cars. The MK II GT40 had a Ford big block 427 with a Holley carb. After 1967 the rules changed outlawing the big blocks which is why the 68 and 69 cars had small block engines and they went back to the lighter chassis MKI.
TarheelRick Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 One of my all-time favorite Fords. You did an excellent job on this one.
Randy D Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Excellent build and finish Curt !! Love a GT40 Randy
vamach1 Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 (edited) One detail Mr. Kosala did not mention was the Daytona right fender hump. The fender was raised to allow for the steep banking of the track to avoid tire rubbing. You can see the hump in pictures and on this 1/43 model. Notice even the maker Starter did not get the gas filler on the left pit side. Fujumi did release kit #12161 to include the fender bump but this kit is pretty pricey due to limited quantities. I guess it all depends on how much one wants to pay for a more accurate kit. I have a kit review of the newer release if anyone is interested. Edited September 3, 2017 by vamach1 add
Silver Foxx Posted September 3, 2017 Posted September 3, 2017 Very nice work in this build , looks great .
Lizard Racing Posted September 6, 2017 Posted September 6, 2017 Another resource for the time is the book Go Like Hell by A. J. Baime. Miles and Ruby Won at Daytona and Sebring. Miles came within a car length of being the first to also win at Le Mans in the same year.Unfortunately, he was killed testing the 1967 car.
Dann Tier Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Fantastic work on one of my all-time favorite cars!!!!
tmathew1us Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Awesome example of one the greatest American racing cars!!
