Bob Ellis Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Steve,I won't critique your work as it is always better than mine
Can-Con Posted February 5, 2019 Author Posted February 5, 2019 (edited) Not that I feel I have to justify my model, but,, Yes, these are all in Parisiennes ,, close enough for me. If an IPMS judge wants to dock me points, so be it. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find Bonneville parts here in Canada? ,, Why, just recently had to have a friend send me a Bonneville tail light. Edited February 5, 2019 by Can-Con
mk11 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 That's a really appealing blend of the US and Canadian models. Nice work, Steve.

Rusty92 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Very nice build that body color is simply stunning! Love the work so far!
Can-Con Posted February 18, 2019 Author Posted February 18, 2019 Drilled out the molded in headlights today. Used a small drill bit followed up with my trusty x-acto knife and a small 1/2 round file to clean up and center the openings. I've also been working on the engine over the last few weeks. It's the original engine from the kit with intake and valve covers from one of the MPC '79 TransAm kits.
espo Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 A thought on the interior console. The pictures of the 1:1 car showing the center console it appears just like the console from a '66 Chevrolet Impala SS. If you have a Revell '66 Impala SS kit you might find what you need there.
Can-Con Posted March 26, 2019 Author Posted March 26, 2019 Still plugging along on it. I also glued the engine in the chassis. Everything seems to be fitting pretty good. I still have to finish up the radiator wall and shroud I'm making from scratch and then I can add the final details to the engine bay and finish it up.

What did you do for headlight buckets and lenses? Steve
Can-Con Posted March 27, 2019 Author Posted March 27, 2019 (edited) 29 minutes ago, StevenGuthmiller said: What did you do for headlight buckets and lenses? Steve I cast my own. I made the forms by pressing aluminum foil onto parts box lenses hard enough to pick up the impressions of the prisms and filled them with clear resin. If you put the shiny side toward the lens, it forms it's own reflector. Then you just trim them to size. Edited March 27, 2019 by Can-Con

Pressing the lens into the foil understandably makes a mold for the lens, but what do you do after taking the lens out? Do you just flip it over and glue it into the foil mold? Are you using lenses with the detail molded on the outside, or inside? Or are you just filling the mold and letting the surface of the lens stay smooth and letting the the ridges in the foil show through as your detail? Steve Edited March 27, 2019 by StevenGuthmiller

Fill mold level or a bit more if you want it convex on both sides. No need to remove new lens from foil at all, you can use it like that, the foil mold IS the reflector. The foil will stay stuck until you take it off. OR you can take the foil off and use the lens as any other normal clear lens. Just trim to size. I use small files. IF you want to keep the foil on, file the lens from the foil side toward the resin side, that way the foil doesn't pull off. Edited March 27, 2019 by Can-Con

It will save me having to come up with or make buckets. They look great on your Bonneville! Steve
Sixties Sam Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Great save of a classic model! Looks good! Sam
NOBLNG Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Excellent work! And I like your "build it how I wanna build it" ethos.
bisc63 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Beautiful car! I'm partial to mild customs, or any well-executed customs; the factory just shoots for a happy medium style for mass appeal, and "one-size-fits-all" is just another way of saying it actually fits no one! Build this baby like you'd build the real thing; to suit YOU! Espo, the photos of the interiors are from Pontiac Parisiennes, which were Impala based. This car is a Bonnieville, so has a different interior; OP was just illustrating a point about the steering wheel choice.
Snake45 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Looking good! You gonna GITTER DONE by Sunday? Drive on!
Slotto Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Great looking Pontiac. Nice color and the interior is killer.
Can-Con Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 Sorry, no pics quite yet but this one is almost done. What an ordeal getting here. Over a year and a 1/2 and 2 major floods ! I should have pics in a couple days.
