landman Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 This is just an opinion check. I have somehow gotten hooked on building engines. I buy some on eBay from breakers, I have many in the junkpile, I have some unbuilt kit which could very well go curbside if they have an interesting engine and I have also scratchbuilt a few. Some have been part of the build they're part of, others have their own thread and many are shown in my engine shop dio. What if I made a thread just for my engines where I could show all of them in one place? Would that be too much of one thing?
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I think it would be great...possibly very informative, and a source of ideas for builders who wanted something different, and technically accurate.

I'm with Bill on this one. Would be a good reference for guys like me who don;t have the tech knowledge on this stuff.

At the risk of being over-critical, quite a few posts show pictures of a model that has been rotated (perhaps) 20 degrees between shots, and it ends up being almost 40 - 50 images.
Oldcarfan27 Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 Super Detailed engines as art itself, whatta great idea. Post good clear pics. Would enjoy seeing them!

Probably 2 per engine, 3/4 front, 3/4 rear and/or from above if there is anything interesting on top. Edited July 7, 2018 by landman
landman Posted July 3, 2018 Author Posted July 3, 2018 (edited) Initial reactions are positive, so we are looking at this plus six or seven scratchbuilt which went into various vehicles. What should I call this thread? Edited October 31, 2020 by landman
espo Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Very impressive engine collection. I would welcome any information and detailing techniques you may have to offer.

GaryR Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 COOL! I have often thought of building just engines! More please!
peteski Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 2 minutes ago, GaryR said: COOL! I have often thought of building just engines! More please! There are several large scale models of engines available - those are fun to build and detail. Like this one: https://model-motorcars.myshopify.com/collections/alfa-romeo/products/engine-kit-a001

What should I call this thread? I think they should be individually shown. This picture is too far from the detail. As far as the title, how about "Engine Thread". You started it, now post the pics. Don't make us beg. OK - Pleeze! Also, do be kind and identify each one for us neophytes. I'm not familiar with every powerplant.

Foxer Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 All your engines are stunning and would be an inspiration for everyone. I say do it!

How about separate threads, based on the manufacturer, rather than a single thread with 100 - 150 pictures? A thread for FoMoCo, another for GM, then Chrysler, and (if applicable) foreign vehicles.

Another question, where do I put it (them)? General?

iamsuperdan Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 I would put them in either Under Glass, or in the Car Reference section.
landman Posted July 4, 2018 Author Posted July 4, 2018 Just now, iamsuperdan said: I would put them in either Under Glass, or in the Car Reference section. There are car, truck and aircraft engines in there.
