Standalone engines, cars, planes, whatever you like to build, what's your favorite kit, and how did you build it?

Part of this question has sprouted from me looking at some cars I like lately and thinking "that could be a cool model to build." With so many cars that I would like to build (and being unsure if many of them are even made into kits), I thought it might be good to start a list of people's favorites. Some of these cars have to show up at some point, while providing inspiration at the same time. I figure it could be a good resource for anyone looking for a new build. And let's face it, everybody likes to talk about their favorite anything.

I suppose I'll start. I believe it was a revell kit. The car is a 79 camaro, the kit was a 3 in 1. It was my first model, I built it with my dad as a kid. It was a good beginner kit, I thought. I have it around here somewhere, we painted with the same paint he painted his race car at the time with (pewter). Used all the box parts for the drag racing version, the slicks and blower and all that.

The Monogram Porsche 911 curbside kit is mine. I built it many times as a kid, usually the same kit that I tore apart and redid, and have been buying and building them again over the last year or so.

I guess I'd have to go with the Monogram/Revell 1970 Mustang in it's various issues.  I've built 5 of 'em over the years and have a 6th in progress now.  Even though it falls a little short detail-wise compared to newer kits and has a somewhat wonky front end, it looks good when finished and goes together very well.  The AMT '62 Bel Air and Revell '68 Darts are also favs of mine.

Well, I've built so many AMT '57 Fords over the decades, I just have to say my favorite kit is...

Had a brown one when I was 5; have two beige ones now. Just neat little wagons; AMT did an excellent job molding them - wouldn't mind  having a dozen.

Aoshimas Pagani Huayra is my favorite kit. Its not exactly done yet, but i'm finishing the last of it.....the body. Once the bugs were worked out, its a REALLY good, and fun kit to build!

Heres where it is now, and a photo of my inspiration....

Steven, probably one of the nicest cars ever to come from Chrysler..Many years ago at Mopars in the Park there was an unrestored one done in light Lavender with a white interior..I know its still around the Minneapolis area..Sure was sweet..

That's a tough question, but one of my real holy grail kits was the Johan '66 Chrysler 300.

I really enjoyed building it, but it's really a toss up as there are many others.

Good looking builds guys! I've seen a couple of the cars I was looking for so far, and at least 1 kit that I currently have and haven't built yet.

Keep 'em coming!

If you're talking about favorite kits, as in, "favorite one to build", for me it was hands down, the Moebius '55 Chrysler 300!

I've never built a better engineered kit!

Everything fit together exactly as it should with no drama or the temptation to pitch it against the wall.

It took a little shoehorning to get the chassis mated to the body, but once it snapped into place, there were no fit issues of any kind.

As a matter of fact, the firewall on mine came unglued as I was fitting it into the body, but once the chassis snapped in, the firewall fell into place just as tight as could be!

You will never know that it is not glued.

I assume that the engineering of the Moebius '56 300 would be just as good.

Agreed,

I built one of the 55s.

Probably one of the best kits Ive ever built. And I gave it away once completed.

Need to build another one for myself

My favorite kit to build ( and i have done several ) is the Revell Thunderbolt.

A close second is probably the old tool MPC Funny car kits , in there  various iterations ,,,,,. I am NOT a big fan of the same kits/subject matter from Revell .

Followed real close by the Lindberg 64 Dodge and Plymouth variants. Although the suspension on  them can be a  little finicky. Otherwise they would be my number 2 pick

I wish that the '56 would have been available at the time that I built the '55.

I like the '56 better, but with all of the kits that I have waiting to be built, I really don't know if I'll ever get to it.

My favorite? Probably AMT's '57 Thunderbird. I love all of the AMT Annual and Trophy kits from the 1950's and 60's. And the MPC Annuals from the 70's. Jo-Han's Chrysler Turbine Car ranks also high. Renwal's motorized Visible V-8 was another old favorite.

In terms of most commonly built, it would have to the MPC Dodge Chargers of their various guises. It seems that for some reason I have build a heck of a lot of those MPC Chargers over the years.

Of those that I enjoy building the most, it would come down to the AMT 55 Nomad or the Monogram 70 Mustang.

If I have to open my display case and pick my absolute favorite kit ( that I have built at this time )  Is my AMT 1959 Edsel convertible . Even though I am a diehard Mopar guy and diehard Vintage drag car builder. This build just pops my buttons

See, Ford is what even Mopar guys look up to :P:lol:

Nice builds guys. I'm seeing some I wanted before, and quickly wanting more. If I didn't have a long build list already, I'm certainly getting one....

That is a nice one!

If I used the same criteria, mine would either be a Johan '62 Chrysler 300 convertible, or an AMT '62 Ford Sunliner.
