Koellefornia Kid Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 As teenagers, my older brother and I did a lot of fun- and action sports, like skateboarding, snowboarding, BMX and stuff like that. We also wanted to go surfing some day, but there are neither beaches nor waves in Cologne, Germany. I always dreamed of having a car, big enough to pack some friends and all our sports utilities, that might bring us to the southwest of Europe to catch some waves. That car would have been a late 50s or early 60s ex-ambulance or hearse with a cosy interior and maybe some extra horsepowers to manage long distances in a short time. Unfortunately, that stayed a dream. But in 2010 I made it come true – at least in scale. I called it „The Coastbuster“ It´s an AMT Ecto-1A kit with all the Ghostbusters stuff left in the box. Interior was made from two Monogram Eldorados with the rear section of the Ecto covered in balsa wood. I scratchbuilt some skateboards, a surfboard, some board-sport-related magazines and some CD-covers. The suspension was lowered and I used Monogram Waverider S-10 wheels and Fujimi low-profile tires. I cut the hood off the body to reveal an Eldorado engine bay and an AMT Corvette LS-1 engine. Tell me the way to the next beach! Greetings from sunny but waveless Cologne, Germany
BeakDoc Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 That is an awesome build. I’ve been wanting to make a special project out of the Ecto1 myself, but a surf-wagon never crossed my mind. Great work! While Cologne may be waveless, it is a beautiful, wonderful city. When my wife and I last vacationed in Europe we fell in love with Cologne. In fact we scrapped our plans to visit Berlin just to stay in Cologne for a couple extra days. Spent an entire day at the Cathedral. What an amazing piece of architecture! Cheers.
ewetwo Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Looks like something right out of Gas Monkey. Nice build.
espo Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Great looking conversion. Your interior looks perfect for your application. There was a time when retired Hearses could be had for next to nothing since most people thought they were to morbid to own.
Lunajammer Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 A lot of work paid off. Well done, I very much like it.

Spex84 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Wild! The concept and detailing are entertaining and well-executed. I particularly like the wordplay of "Coastbuster"...it's the perfect name!
donb Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Nailed your thought on this perfectly. The interior is pretty darn nice too. Like the skateboard
OldTrucker Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Nice looking Caddy long roof! I hope it is bagged or it may wind up stuck in the sand sitting that deep in the weeds!
om617 Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 Great surf wagon,i like the details "junk" inside.
Koellefornia Kid Posted August 25, 2018 Author Posted August 25, 2018 Thanks a lot for your all of your nice comments! I just entered this board a few weeks ago but it feels like home already! Hey, Chris: I hope you tried our beer on your visit. Nothing beats a chilled Kölsch! Cheers from Cologne
