Koellefornia Kid Posted October 10, 2018 Posted October 10, 2018 I know, this must have been done hundreds of times before but it was this car that dragged me into the world of Hot Rods and Custom Cars, so I just had to build it. I remember, when I was 10 or 11 years old, we were connected to the cable television network. One of the first music videos I ever saw on MTV was ZZ Top´s „Legs“. I instantly fell in love with the Eliminator and even today, ´33/´34 Fords are my favorite Hot Rods. By the way, the Eliminator was my first (and until today only ever) box stock build. With the Eliminator and the previously built Kopperhed I started a collection of famous rod and custom scale rebuilds. To be continued...
Scalper Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I always loved this car. you did a great job building the kit.

espo Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Very nicely done. This looks like it could be the model for the "box art" for the kit. I also noticed the one picture with Billy's '49 Ford coupe. I always liked that one the best of all his cars.
Oldmopars Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 Nice job, looks great. I built this one back in the 80's. Unfortunately my model of it vanished just like the real car, never to be seen again.
Koellefornia Kid Posted October 12, 2018 Author Posted October 12, 2018 (edited) Thanks for all of your nice comments! It were nearly 25 years between seeing it for the first time and actually having it on my workbench but I had a fun time building the kit! 1 hour ago, Oldmopars said: Nice job, looks great. As far as I know, Billy still owns it and it is currently on display at the Cleveland Rock`n´Roll Hall of Fame. Greetings from Germany Edited October 12, 2018 by Koellefornia Kid

Greetings from Germany That is strange, I thought I remember that the car had been stolen and never found and that there was some weird story with it. I am getting older and maybe my memory is fading.
Koellefornia Kid Posted October 12, 2018 Author Posted October 12, 2018 I heard rumors of the Eliminator being stolen in 2011, too. But that was mixed up with a story about a ´32 Ford stolen in Indianapolis...
JohnU Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 (edited) Yea, I’m from Cleveland and it’s here in the Rock Hall of Fame last I checked. Edited October 13, 2018 by JohnU
Dennis Lacy Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Definitely one of the cleanest build-ups of the ZZ Top kit I've seen. Especially nice work getting the roof section blended in! The detailing on the instrument panel also looks really good. Is that paint of a photo-etch overlay?
Jim Whalen Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Nice build of the Eliminator coupe - I was already into hot rods when the ZZ Top videos came out but this famous car helped me become a ZZ Top fan. Went to see them in Manchester last year - I'm hoping they will come over to England as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations next year.
Koellefornia Kid Posted October 14, 2018 Author Posted October 14, 2018 Thanks again! 11 hours ago, Dennis Lacy said: Definitely one of the cleanest build-ups of the ZZ Top kit I've seen. The dash board had some scratches with a big one right over the instrument cluster (it was second hand kit). I sanded off the instruments and used a MCG PE-part instead.
geetee66 Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 Super clean build. Nice to see an old kit built box stock. Great stuff
