There is no need for the execrable "Kotter" figures to ever re-appear either. Round2 could add those (relatively) newly tooled 5 spoke mags that have been included in a half dozen kits now. Add a set of tires with Wide Whites on one side and pinstripes on the other. Design some Radical Decals (One of Round2's Strongest Skills, now), and I think the kit would work well. Run no more than 1500-2000 of them, and see what they do. As CapSat 6 says, unblock everything in the tool, and let the buyers decide what they want. A quik check of the '69 and '71 Grand Prix instruction sheets over at the Drastic Plastic archive, shows that the G/P base kit has never had any engine options. There have been the Faux spare tire overlay for the trunk, the snazzy side pipes, and a whole group of snow skiing extra parts, as well as the "Wild Put-on Parts" from the '71 issue. If any of these pieces still exist in the tool, they would enhance the kits value. Throwing in the snow tires would be a nice thing if the Skis, sled and other winter parts are still there. And this does not count the "Super Fly" parts that might still be in the tooling as it exists now. All in all, I think a good case can be made to run it as it sets now. " Agree! One-Run-Of-Fun, Limited Edition Neoclassical Custom Pontiac Grand Prix. A disco/ Funk themed box...decals with pinstripes, flames, and lace panel paint. Put me down for two!!!
Dragline Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Bring on all of em. I'm down for the Superfly for certain and can see it in candy Magenta. Do up some leopard seats ala The Elvira T-bird and we have a winner. Throw in all the rest mentioned and I see it selling out very quickly.
Faust Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I knew I wasn't alone! If this came back out, I'd certainly be in for two, and that's very unusal for me! I'd love to do one as a haughty "true" neo-classic, and go FULL PIMP on the other one, with all the animal print and crushed diamons you can imagine. So, C'mon Round 2!! You've been a bit slack of late... let's get some classics back out there!
stavanzer Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Well, Adam we ARE getting the '64 Olds With the Awesome Judson Superchargers! So there is hope. But even if they DO listen to us, I figure we would not see the kit until early 2022. So many other projects in front of it. That's alright though. I can wait.
Rodent Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I had an unbuilt '70 GP in my stash for about 30 years, and I re-homed it on eBay not long ago. I built the '72 as a new kit as a kid. I love the lines of the car. My mom's half nephew (?) inexplicably bought a new one every year from 70-72 and they were all light blue with a white interior and vinyl top. Why buy a new car every year when your neighbors won't recognize it from your old one? I brought that 70 out at least every six months for the last 5-6 years and tried to figure out how I could build it with a better chassis, more realistic engine, air conditioning, etc. I gave up every time. If Round2 did a Grand Prix, i would like to see something like the 63 Nova Craftsman Plus. Get an engine plate from the promo, the chassis with the separate exhaust and rear end like the kit, and some newly tooled Rally II wheels. I would be all over that. Same thing for the MPC GTOs.
Bills72sj Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 As an owner of a number of 1:1 70-72 Grand Prix's I would be interested as well. I think the version that would sell the best is a never released Hurst SSJ version. I have a long neglected WIP of one using a Monte Carlo roof spliced into a promo body.

The SSJ Hurst version might work, too, if Round2 still has the Hurst licensing.

You are probably right, but IMHO the engine and engine compartment were the worst features of the original kits. I don't see them fixing that. I guess that we can hope that Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs are on Revell's mind as offshoots of the new Chevelle tooling, even though the Grand Prix is on a longer wheelbase.

Motor City Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 (edited) Pictured (if anyone notices) is a '70 GP. I met Linda several years ago at the Woodward Cruise. She was autographing posters and selling photos of herself from back in the day. She was very friendly and even personalized my poster and one for my brother. Edited June 28, 2022 by Motor City
Casey Posted January 13, 2021 Author Posted January 13, 2021 (edited) Currently on eBay for a starting bid of $100...not mine, just what appears to be a complete, unstarted 1/25 MPC Pontiac Grand Prix kit, molded in...brown plastic??: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-MPC-1970-PONTIAC-GRAND-PRIX-MODEL-CAR-KIT/333847969125 Edited January 13, 2021 by Casey
Mark Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 The '70 kit I have now is molded in that color. The '70 I had in 1970 was molded in white. Some of the MPC annuals were molded in white and a color (not two colors in the same kit, but either or) in 1970-71. I have seen '70 Barracudas in lime green (including mine), '70 and '71 Challengers in purple, '70 Chargers in yellow, and '71 Impalas in red, all in white also.

Bills72sj Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 (edited) In spite of the vintage 71-72 Grand Prix kits I already have I would get as many as $120 could buy me. There are significant engine and engine compartment issues but I don't care. Even with needing to kitbash for accuracy, it would still be worth the price of admission. And not because you're biased or anything. It's not like you have a 72sj at home or anything like that! I love these cars. They look so perfect, just like Buick Rivieras nine years earlier and mid 60s GTOs. The designs are classic.
