This is a Johan promo (no engine or chassis detail).  The color is Tamiya TS-11 Maroon.  The BMF was a bear to do on this car, especially around the rear windows.  I was able to get the front grille & rear bumper/taillights along with the promo wheels & tires from Modelhaus last year before they closed up shop.

The promo interior is pretty "plain" in flat Maroon paint.  I used black embossing powder for the carpets and added gas & brake pedals because there weren't any.  The side panels got some chrome trim and resin cranks & handles from Norm Veber which I chromed using Molotow pens.  The dash was painted body color Maroon with BMF & Molotow trim with some black Detailer.  The steering wheel was painted white with Molotow chrome on the horn ring and a shifter column and turn signal stalk were installed using pieces of shirt pins.  I also painted the interior headliner white and added an interior mirror, visors and a dome light.

I always loved the looks of this car and hoped that a full detail kit would appear some day.:(  It's not my best work, but I'm happy with it for now.  Thanks for looking in on this.  Any and all comments are welcomed as always.

Nice job Rich!  It's good to see you back at the work bench!

I use Norm's interior cranks on most everything myself.  I saw him at a show a while back and bought all 5 packs he had with him!

See you in April, my friend!

Thanks Tom.  Yeah I recently got another couple of pkgs. of the cranks & handles plus some other goodies from Norm.  The cranks & handles really make a BIG difference on the promo interiors and other stuff too.

I'm looking forward to seeing you again in April at NNL East.  Stay well buddy.

Nice build Richard. That dark paint and the driver's side profile pix you posted really show how well GM designers mimicked the side trim shape to the chrome over the Windows. Thanks for sharing.

She's a real beauty Rich! This brings back some kid memories as I remember a neighbor who lived at the end of our block in the later '60's had one of these. I always loved the looks of this car with all the windows down and it's sad that there are no true hardtops being built today. I also love the '57 triple window rear backlite which was a one year deal for Olds (and Buick) interesting enough.

Your BMF looks terrific as those are not easy cars to foil.........especially in the areas where the trim is not well defined. ;)

I have a somewhat tired X-EL promo of this car........another dream project of mine is to make a suitable chassis for this and get one of MCW's Olds engines (if he still makes it). Some work, but like you mentioned, I don't see this car making it to our hobby shelves anytime soon. I keep thinking Moebius could step up to the plate as this car does have a race history.

We'll see.................. ;)

Everyone is sure digging your 57 Olds. Me too. I drove across North America in the back seat of my parents Super 88. It still looked good when we arrived on the west coast but when my dad traded it in on a new 62 Galaxie 500 it turned out the Olds was rusting from the inside out!! I think it had had a respray. Pretty amazing how quickly cars got old back in those days !!

Thank you all very, very much for your great comments.  I've got quite a few more of the great looking '50's cars lined up to work on.

The 57 Olds was my dad’s favorite car! Nice job on yours ?

I agree with your dad. The Chevys, and Fords were both great looking cars, but the Olds had them beat, hands down.

I can't believe a kit was never done of this car.

You have done some nice work on this Johan promo Rich, and the colour really suits this car. The design appeals to my eye also, and speaking as an Englishman who is not that familiar with all '50's American cars, your '57 Oldsmobile reminds me of a DeSoto Firefly ( not sure if I got that right, please excuse me ). My favourite cars from both United States and Europe are those from the '30's, '40's and '50's..... you can keep your modern car designs.
