PatW Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 I don't often build military kits, but this one took my fancy, with it's fully flexible central connector and 6 wheel drive. I hope I haven't gone too crazy with the camo!
afx Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Great work Patrick. I have always admired military models and guy/gals that can build them.
cobraman Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Looks good. Would be cool on a display base as a diorama.
Mike999 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Great job! The camouflage looks like the type that might be used for winter exercises in places like Norway, where US forces often deployed for joint maneuvers. When I was in the Marine Corps long ago, the Goat was still in service. We sometimes saw them running around Camp Pendleton. On-topic for a car forum! The Gama Goat was originally powered by a Corvair air-cooled engine. But the weight of the vehicle kept going up. By the time it went in service, the 'Vair engine was severely stressed and often overheated. The designers switched to a 3-cylinder Detroit Diesel engine. It was mounted right behind the driver and LOUD, so hearing protection was mandatory. And while the Goat was technically amphibious, that feature required special training for the drivers. Otherwise it could turn into a submarine.
PatW Posted February 12, 2019 Author Posted February 12, 2019 Thanks guys and thanks for the extra info Mike999.

Jim N Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Looks great Pat. I think the camo looks quite realistic.
Agent G Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Looks great. Here's the pattern as I remember it, add the winter white (which we did) and yours is spot on.
mod3l Lover Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 (edited) Very nice build Patrick, I love it! My best friend was a mechanic on the Gama-Goat when he was stationed in Germany. He hated driving them because they have no leg room at all. And are loud, rough running, and smelly little buggers!! And slow!! David S. Edited March 15, 2019 by mod3l Lover
mod3l Lover Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 I know one kit comes with the up top Sam! Those were something I was checking out lately on the Wacky World Web!!
PatW Posted May 24, 2019 Author Posted May 24, 2019 Thanks guys, and thanks David for the info. We had until recently two USAF airfields about ten miles from us. All we saw on the roads were blue Chevy vans taking folks to the railway station and the odd Hummer, but they nearly took up the width of our narrow roads!
bisc63 Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 I had no idea what a Gama Goat was, but am so glad I clicked to find out! Very nice build, and exemplary paint work. I agree with others that say this needs a simple diorama to display in. Fun stuff!
mustang1989 Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Hadn't peeked in here in a while but I'm glad I did. Great job on that Gama Goat Pat. Don't see these any more. lol
PatW Posted May 9, 2021 Author Posted May 9, 2021 Thanks guys I enjoy building something different, great kit by the way!
