Zoom Zoom Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) Finally finished the "NISMAGNUM" GT-R wagon. Aoshima Skyline GT-R front end/wheels/dash/taillights added to a Dodge Magnum body. I'd love to own/drive a car like this; Q-ship wagons are just too cool. Fun project, but took me far too long. This crazy idea started as a Mustang wagon, but the Mustang front end didn't fit the Magnum too well, I searched for something more appropriate and I had an extra Aoshima GT-R. I like this car better than a Skyline GT-R or Magnum. It's built as a very basic curbside. There is no engine detail and just enough underneath to hold the wheels in place. It is neither AWD nor RWD, it's a model, so it's NWD (no wheel drive). All the time was spent on getting the bodywork done. It's got a few rough edges, just like the two basic donors Edited March 22, 2012 by Zoom Zoom
LVZ2881 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 That turned out great Bob!!! The front end suprisingly fits with the style of the magnum body!!
Nick F40 Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Welp Bob, it's official, this is my favorite model of 08. This is just too cool and I love EVERY part about it, only thing is you should have painted it blue but it looks cool in silver. I would drive/own this thing in a heartbeat They need to make cars like these nowadays, and a Skyline wagon would be awsome, it would start back the Performance wagon (brick) movement back up. If this was AWD, it would be killer on the street and track, and a cool look. Like I said in the work in progress thread, along with that 300C wagon, this reminds me off the BTCC Volvo 850 Estate HGHLY! Fantastic work!
Harry P. Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 (edited) The Nissan front end doesn't look all that different from the Magnum's front end. I'll bet if you didn't tell people what you did, a lot of them would never realize that the front end is from a different car! The ultimate "stealth" styling exercise! Sometimes the best restyles are the ones where people don't immediately realize what it is you've done... it just looks "right" without hitting you over the head. That's exactly what you've achieved here. And as usual, your workmanship is superb. Edited August 31, 2008 by harrypri

crispy Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Nice work Bob! It has the understated look without the "look at me" in your face styling. Very nice clean and smooth. I suspect we'll be seeing that in the SA in the not too distant future. I like it. Chris
Randy Kern Posted August 31, 2008 Posted August 31, 2008 Bob, that's killer! That front end looks much more meaner than stock. Great transition to the body, front and rear. Not a fan of black wheels, but they really help with the nasty look. I love wagons, and this one's too cool!
cruz Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 That is awesome Bob, and with your skills it's just superb, really looks like something you could just buy and drive right out of a dealer!!! Congratulations, you have a winner here!!!!
kerc Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 The longer nose really balances well the rest of the design, way better than the stock nose. Excellent work!

It's also one of those that might not look right on paper either. Sure looks right in styrene!
whale392 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 WOW! Being a fan of Magnums (my sis drives an R/T version) and Skylines, I was not too sure what to expect...............but I never saw that coming. That is nice! great build and LOVE the execution of ideas.
RadRidesByDan Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 That is just off the hooks....love the body style. Congrats on body mods well done
Zoom Zoom Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Thanks for all the replies Feels good to get another custom done, after building mostly OOB stuff for a long stretch.
JayVee Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Fantastic project, congrats on the finished build!
Brendan Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Cool project you did. Now you need to make the race version.
Wildrice Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 An awesome build. A Japanese company did something like it with a Nissan wagon and a Skyline.
BKIN10SECS Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Every once in awhile someone steps up to the plate and hits a homerun....you just smacked it clear out the ballpark and into the parking lot. VERY VERY WELL DONE !!!!!
Casey429 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 I like it. I'm not usually into the import scene, and despise the Mustang from Tokyo Drift, but this just looks like it works. NISMO should have built it.
Zoom Zoom Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 I don't like you any more..... If there were kits of FJ Cruisers and the Prius, I could really have some fun
Nick F40 Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Cool project you did. Now you need to make the race version. heck yeah! could it be the new BTCC 850 Estate? http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1316/822310...343f5f8.jpg?v=0 An awesome build. A Japanese company did something like it with a Nissan wagon and a Skyline. like this? http://carsmedia.ign.com/cars/image/articl...19041954891.jpg I see a lot of R31 wagons! Let's keep the FJ and Prius alone! Celica wagon?
Zoom Zoom Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 like this? http://carsmedia.ign.com/cars/image/articl...19041954891.jpg I see a lot of R31 wagons! Actually there have been R34 conversions to Nissan Stagea wagons, but that's not nearly as cool looking as a Magnum. Like this: Nissan Stagea/GTR wagon conversion My evil twin is working on a Magnum stock car; a full-fledged modern stock car chassis w/Magnum body. There's a perfectly good reason, but I'm not going to give away the farm
