A thing of beauty. Just think about how over the top bonkers that car is. Huge power, weighs almost nothing, no traction aids or brake assist or any other safety nannies. Did it even have power steering?

I love it.

Wow - amazing sounds. Having that and those screaming Ferrari V12's racing each other had to be fantastic.

And talk about irony. I was just opening the box of a Wave (Heller) 917K kit that I picked up recently and the first thing I see when I open the site is this tab.  So cool - Thanks Bill.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. Bear in mind that the driver is taking it VERY easy on the gearbox. The upshifts are noticeably slow compared to what you'd hear in a real race, possibly because the box is still cold. The downshifts are slow too, with a lot more throttle-blipping to match revs than you'd normally hear if the car was actually racing. Again, the box may be cold and stiff, it may be tired, or the driver may just be being gentle with semi-priceless old parts out of respect for the machine.

Funny thing...I watched this exact video on Youtube just minutes before I logged on here and I saw your post. :)
The flat 12 sounds nice.

If you check You Tube, you can find old footage of these things in full race mode. Being thrashed around a track at full throttle. That un-Godly racket is awesome.

:D  And it still gives me a rush just like it did all those decades ago...

The first 10 minutes of "Le Mans" with Steve McQueen for your sounds.  Turn it up loud.  (Strange thing that: between "Le Mans" and the chase scene in "Bullitt" my wife always knows when I'm in the midst of a "McQueen Marathon".)

MUSIC!

I've got video from the 93 Can Am Reunion at Road Atlanta. We were videoing in the dip of the old configuration and on the tape, you could hear a McLaren coming out of 7. When he hit the crest and blew into the dip, the hair on all of us was standing straight up. My 14 year old son's mouth literally fell open. :o He was blown away. Well, we all were. I was racing my Formula V for the first time.
