Painted the body this morning.  It was a last minute decision, I just didn't want to paint boring silver.  This is Sally Hansen - HARD AS NAILS XTREME WEAR nail color, Breezy Blue.  I'm now going to paint the chassis pan all flat black, instead of aluminum.  I didn't edit the photos, first under LED light, second outside.  I can *never* get a clean paint job, have some dust/lint to deal with. ?

Your panel lines look just about right with the "black BEFORE paint" technique. B) Drive on!

Thanks!  I'm driven at the moment with this slam dunk project.

I assembled the wheels with the evil tires that melt plastic.  I put Bare Metal Foil on the inner rims, I have to assume the chrome will protect the outer rims, but I did put some on the cut-off areas.

For whoever doesn't know, the vinyl tires have a chemical reaction with plastic, and ruin a model.  Some military subjects have aftermarket resin tire/wheels to replace this ****.  I built this Italeri last century:

I scrubbed the engine/transaxle, and painted with Testors aluminum, which I should have done to begin with.

Assembled the engine.  The instructions show the exhaust manifold/pipes to be glued on, am going to wait until the engine and muffler are glued onto the chassis before sticking those on, looks like trouble otherwise.   Found out the decals are shot, no adhesive, and Solvaset does not have any effect, ended up using paint to stick the decal on.

Something bugs me about the kit engineering on this.  Shouldn't the rear wheel/tires be wider, instead of the same as the front?  They made up the difference with longer axle stubs (wheels aren't snapped on yet).

Fun to be blasting out a project, knowing there is a snowball's chance...... in Phoenix. ?

Painted a second coat of the nail color, after a light wet-sanding.  Painted the chassis all flat black.  Interior is custom mixed "ghost grey", had previously painted German grey on seats and door panels.

Decided to paint the drive chain cover on the engine, tricky with the torsion bar in the way.  The console got masked, did not want to brush paint around the knobs.  Repainted the gauge part too.

Something the instructions missed, and it's easy to not see in photos and video, there is a trim strip on the dash and doors.  I used a brushed stainless steel sticker, instead of Bare Metal Foil.  So tempting to add pedals!

The chassis is done!  The muffler is not glued on, so holding that in place, and manipulating the exhaust pipe and getting the manifold glued to the engine was fun.  Everything fit great, am worried about the air filter hitting the window.

Interior is very basic, think the st. stl. trim looks good enough.  I wasn't neat enough masking the console.  Strange to not have a traditional instrument panel.DSC_0809.thumb.JPG.fcf83f3a1bfe57dd04649ebb55f4e15e.JPG

Slipped the body on just to get a look, sticks holding up the bumpers. ?  Of course, after I painted the body, noticed there are some dips from spines inside the body, so will avoid pictures showing that.  ?

I have drilled the exhaust tips.  Next is getting the decals on the body and wheels, which don't have any adhesive.  Then a clear coat.  Then windows!

Looking really good so far!  :)  Your interior is fantastic.

Thanks!  I know the real car has silver leather, I just couldn't do it. ?

Those interior colours look great. The kit may be simplified, but that chassis builds up better looking than I would have thought.

Good, thank you.  Detail painting really helps.

WOW!!, this is looking FANTASTIC, bud!!!  I think i may need to find this kit!.....i bet a Countach wing would look killer on this!

Thanks man!  You and your wings, geez. ?  But, if it was to be updated, with wheels/tires, ZR1 engine, etc., then a ricer wing might look good.

Very sharp ! I built this kit in high school,  but never turned out this remarkable

I did a few of those. ?  Thank you.

Looking great, Kurt!  The interior is particularly impressive.  Don’t forget to bring the instructions to Modelzona with It. Out of Box is almost in the bag!

Thank you sir!  I will.  I know you're just excited to vote for an American car in that category (I almost always do foreign cars ?).

I'm possessed, this is almost done!  Good thing there aren't many decals, the film has yellowed.  I did the usual routine, but applied clear Elmers glue to the surface before applying the decals, and squeezed down with a wet Kleenex, seems to have worked.   Sprayed House Of Color clear over the body.  Masked the windows to spray flat black, instructions say gloss black but that does not block light, or go on as well.  Also made a paper headliner, instead of painting and risking light shining through the body.
DSC_0811.thumb.JPG.cbcb0bf43a5443d0fae70ea2ed41a422.JPG

Used stickers for the side lights.  Bare Metal Foil for light reflectors.  Glued lenses on with the Elmers clear glue.   Brush painted the edges of all the clear parts.  Drilled exhaust tips.  Now I need to stay away and let the paint dry!!!!!!

Wow!

Beautiful work on what seems to be a rather challenging kit.

Do you plan on being at the Desert Scale Classic in the spring? If so, I'd love the chance to see this one in person.

David G.

Thank you!  It's better than average for a Revell and/or Monogram, everything fit really well.  It was the final assembly that irked me.  You bet I'll be there, I owe Dann something.

I sprayed a second coat of clear, correction it's Black Gold's House of Kolor clear.  I'm not worried about having super shiny gloss, shows dust and fingerprints too easily.  Got the lights done, with Bare Metal Foil reflectors.
DSC_0813.thumb.JPG.c52a3b1cedbfb8744d04308c0fd9c5f8.JPG

I added mirrors cut from salvaged electronic device, hate painted "mirrors".  Brush painted the inside of the body, sometimes I airbrush, but always get overspray somewhere.  Glued in back windows with superglue.  Headliner glued in with Tacky glue.  During final test fit, did find the air cleaner was against the window, broke off, cut down, and superglued back on.

Got it done just before the model club meeting!  Have some minor glue goobers.  ?  I had a celebration for a deceased friend in Phoenix, got back just in time for finished pictures, will post only one here.  Will post in the Under Glass later.

Find a 3D printed 3 Rotor Wankle .... ;)

Or, look for an MPC 1974 or 1975 Corvette kit. In anticipation of the rotary-engined Corvette of the future, MPC included an optional Wankel rotary engine in their Vette kits for a couple of years.

You’ll have to shop around a bit to find the Vette kit at a decent price, but they’re out there. I was fortunate to find just the rotary engine alone from one of those “kit buster” sellers on evilBay.

I looked and saw some kits, but did not see anything about the rotary engine option.  You have more information?

Kurt:

See attached photo. IIRC, it’s available in the roadster kits, too, and likewise in the ‘73 and ‘75 Corvette kit as well. The ‘75 was reissued by Round 2 in recent years, but I don’t think it includes the Wankel engine - maybe someone on the Forum can confirm that for us. Anyway, the Wankel is definitely in the old original issue kits.
