Uh, no, I tried doing two projects at the same time this past year, one got finished in about a month, the other about a year. Before committing to cutting the trunk lid and making the interior, wanted to make sure that reasonable looking hinges that work could be done. Cut a length of fusee chain with the Dremel cut-off disk. Opened a new bottle of superglue, applied to all but the one pin, with the angles to go through the body. Bent newspaper printing plate, which got glued over the chain. Filed and sanded to shape. I will need to paint or BMF the new hinge. The question is to glue all that in place before painting, to avoid screwing up the paint. Will have two strips of styrene inside the body so the chain will be positively anchored.

I am trying to take my time on this one. I have cut one door out, and got the jamb fabricated. Making a working hinge is next (key word is working). Using 0.1" styrene, superglued all together with baking soda to fill/set, which is good for sanding to final shape.

I shall be watching this part of your build closely, because I did try to construct a hinged door on a 1:24 scale Bedford truck..... which did not go well for me. I was probably using the wrong technique or method, so I might learn from your approach. Great looking car this Ferrari and I have always liked the Italeri kits. David

I'm considering using the fusee chain for the hinges, since the clearance is so tight. The body is surprisingly solid still, but am considering adding something. The nail 'polish' is very close to the color on this car, I should test different color base coats, such as flat black, flat white, and flat silver, then spray the nail color over to evaluate. On previous projects, I was surprised what a difference it makes. Love those models you have, they were done perfectly! I prefer those mirrors, the kit has what looks like a Chevy mirror. That Spyder also has an exterior gas cap, I was going to fabricate the trunk version.
89AKurt Posted October 19, 2019 Author Posted October 19, 2019 Has anyone ever strayed from instructions, such as mounting the interior to the body, instead of gluing to the chassis? I think it would help keep everything tight, less chance of sloppy fit for the doors. I'm going to glue in mounting tabs, and perhaps use screws so I can ensure no slop.

All I found was this 1/8 scale model, so the door goes in at the leading edge. 89AKurt Posted October 26, 2019 Author Posted October 26, 2019 I had to prepare for winter, last weekend gathered all the wood around my ghetto, chopped/sawed/stacked what I hope will last the winter, without having to buy a cord. Now I'm determined to make progress, the other door is cut out and most of the body jamb is done. The trunk is also cut out, have the edge glued on, and made the other hinge. Temporary glue using Tacky glue, will superglue for final assembly. Not sitting flush enough, but am going to refine before finishing. Think a working latch is needed. Whew! ? Thinned the hinge edge of the lid, so it does open. The real car has a sliding support, I don't need it. ? The only reason I'm doing this, the fuel filler will go in that corner, gotta have a gas cap!

Just a manual for any Ferrari is like $3,000! I've been wondering if there is a spare tire. I'm planning to make a display base for this, with her ?. Call it Sexy (w)Heels, shoes will be made from steel, with magnets in the base.

It had the alloy wheels, and black interior, so I'm disappointed that what I want is not authentic, but I'm building for me, not a museum. I thought that link at the beginning of my thread showed the movie car with tan interior and wire wheels, need to verify. I'm also not going to use the tires from the stash, the rear are wider and won't fit. Next weekend is an IPMS show, will hope to find better tires. BTW: the movie was corny 60s, the chess scene was good, but no wonder it's a dud, and not even firing up the Ferrari much less driving it was super lame, instead a Manx that sounded like it had a V8 was driven on a beach.

In my personal opinion, the remake of the movie from the late ‘90s (or very early 2000s) is way better. No Ferrari NART Spider in it tho. If you check the Barchetta website, it would give you the spec for each car made with a serial number and in most cases if any changes to the car have been made, like color, wheels, interior etc. A lot of these cars changed their appearance with each owner/restoration. The car on your pictures is in Rosso Barchetta. I do have that color in my paints and if you want it I can provide it for you. Maybe we can work out some symbolic trade.
