DukeE Posted October 28, 2019 Posted October 28, 2019 (edited) Rosso Rubino is the color above. Rosso Barchetta dates from 94-95 or so. Incorrect for anything older than that. I mentioned the alloy wheels, since you mentioned the above car, 09437. There are other places to look, but it's a start. http://www.330gt.com/Encyclopedia/PaintColors.htm This is about halfway down the page, a 275 paint chart. #6 is Rosso Rubino. 7 is Rosso Chiaro, 8 is Giallo Fly, the early, pale version. Not the awful later version. Edited October 28, 2019 by DukeE

Not the awful later version. You are probably correct. However, when used in scale colors create an illusion sometimes. The couple models I have painted with the paint I have at home came out to look exactly like the car on the picture. Plus I always thought Rosso Rubino to be a metallic. And the 275 on the pictures clearly is not. This is the color I can provide him for free. Which looks exactly like the number 5 on your picture.
DukeE Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 (edited) Rosso Rubino is incredibly fine metallic. Need to squint to see it. 10173 was factory RR, first F car I ever drove. 09437 was burgundy metallic repaint of the McCluggage race car, subsequent restoration noted metallic underneath. Can only guess color, but either Junior or Tony Nancy painted it, only 2 serious Hollywood painters back then. Barchetta is more toward red end.Rubino leans to blue spectrum more. Not arguing, but lots of misconceptions about Ferrari colors. Worst is painting GTO's Rossa Corsa, when the color used then was Rosso Cino. They're not the same. Chinese red much more vivid. Last photo in this series is closest to real color, decent lighting. https://barchetta.mediacenter.plus/?menu=small&banner=no&op=ds&SLClose=stay&dir=1964569&slsbackgrnd=0x131313&ft=search.10173&style=Plain&SLClose=stay&SlSidx=4&SlSdir=1964569&ref=showflat&mode=fullscreen&v=ad&si=3400756 Edited October 29, 2019 by DukeE
89AKurt Posted November 12, 2019 Author Posted November 12, 2019 Back onto this project, after doing a major cleanup de-clutter of my hobby room! I used stretched sprue to add piping to a seat. I glued fat sprue with a hole drilled under the seats, drilled holes in the lids of these paint bottles. I like using these bottles, good weight, don't tip over, usually tape parts to paint.
curt raitz Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Hi Kurt love your "LOVE ME WALL" over the bench. And my back hurts just looking at your "chair"! Just came across this thread and enjoy what you're doing with it...although there has never been a door on a model I want opened! If the kit comes with opening doors I glue-'em shut! Hope to see the finished model at Desert Scale Classic in April. c'ya Curt
absmiami Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 please take the next plane fight to south florida need someone to cleanup my workshop - bad ..... thank you
DukeE Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Looks great. Must've taken awhile ?. Put an LED bulb in your lamp if not already LOL. And plz hang that cutaway of the 4-cam, looks like an Allison print. I gotta work on my skills, I'll never hit what you guys do. Some amazing sportscar talent here on the board.

Yea, sometimes my back hurt, know slouching isn't good, or you talking about the minimal cushion? I'm crazy, not sure if I can make those open, but going to try. Took only one weekend, after thinking about it for about 20 years. I've been trying different lightbulbs, so many are dim, not the same as incandescent! Had a halogen that had coke glass, heavy and the lamp would keep falling down. When I'm done, that print will hang with 3 others (F40, 959, Countach). Always keep your eyes open, and don't be afraid to try new techniques!
Rich Chernosky Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Kurt, hope you don't mind me posting these pictures. Luv what you are doing to the seats. These two are from my Hasegawa Testa Rossa build and a Protar Alfa Romeo. Both were done with vinyl tape. The tape was laid on a piece of glass and cut thin with a steel ruler and sharp knife. Takes a few cuts to get them consistent. Once stuck on they were sealed down with waterbase matte varnish to stop them from moving. Thanks for the update on this project. Its coming along great.

[...] No worries, you bumped up my topic so I wouldn't have to dig down so far. ? Looks good, but I worry about tape adhesive going bad after awhile, but you said sealing helps. Could use wire too, especially with keeping a different color; my seats will be all tan. I know this is crazy, but I went on eBay and found a Fujimi Daytona being auctioned, waited to the last minute and put in the winning bid, so with Canadian exchange rate favoring the dollar it cost less with shipping, than getting one from Japan without shipping added. Will need to use the wire wheels too, which are nice units. I built the Daytona convertible last century. I'm also going to use steel tube for the exhaust tips. But I don't like the thick wall, found another source so will order and see what it looks like. Anyone want the Dunlop truck tires? I was playing with the alloy wheels..... Got the other seat done.
Funkychiken Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 Amazing detail on this build, it's going to be stunning when you finish

Those Fujimi Ferrari Daytona Enthusiast Series kits were the best. I have both the berlinetta and spyder in my stash. Bodies are done with great paint jobs and I am just waiting for some room to open up in my Ferrari case to finish them. The wire wheels are some of the nicest to be seen in a plastic kit. I stuck the tires in a moto-tool and sanded the square edges off so they don't look so much like truck tires.

Finally resumed, wanted to kill two birds with one stone, vacuum-form part for the gas filler. I made a form out of Corian. I needed to produce my coke cooler handles, this fit in the corner. My vacuum-form tool uses an Oreck without the bag. Now I have room on the bench for my laptop. The cap is made from fat sprue rod, rolled on the file to make the knurled edge. Photo-etch ring with tiny sprue for detailing the cap. I also added piping to the convertible top part.
89AKurt Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Going like a herd of turtles.... dropped to page 3. ? Only because I'm getting one of my vintage coke coolers made for pictures, thought I better paint something. First time I have used the Tamiya primer, think I like it! Need to touch up with some sandpaper before the color is painted. Since the cooler handle is aluminum, made sense to paint the engine and other parts for this project. Also used Alclad stainless steel on the brake disks, and chrome on the wipers and mirror. Instructions say the headers should be rust, I mixed steel with just a drop of brown.
Rich Chernosky Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 Great progress Kurt, luv your handmade vacuum form machine. I made one of those a long time back and it worked OK. But then i got lucky and scored a dental vacuum form machine. But you do what you gotta do with what you have and yours is excellent. Look f0orward to seeing more.

When I woke this morning, tried to psych myself into resuming, I'm at the 'what the **** am I doing' stage. I wanted to refine the fuel filler part with another vacuum-form attempt, so I reworked the pattern. Since I had the equipment out, also made headlight covers, first needed to wreck the original parts by sanding off the trim edge. Pet peeve with headlight covers, the magnifying glass look: Took only three attempts to get a decent enough result. Found out when you heat the plastic too much, it turns milky. No distortion, but some roughness in the plastic, so will sulk about it. Worked on the trunk floor. I made screw mounts so the body stays in place. Cut a paper pattern. Used packaging that is flocked, will paint of course. The real car has numerous carpet pieces, so tried to mimic, using corners of the packaging that was close enough. They are all friction fit here, hope when I glue in, can make tighter gaps. Finally happy with the fuel filler part, it's a wonder I ever finish a model. ? I really want to make a working trunk latch. I also want to remove the window winder handles, and make new ones that look realistic. But I also want to finish this before New Year! ?

I need all the encouragement to get over the hump on this. ? Fixing another pet peeve, headlights with pins. Seems like the diameter is a bit small, but not worried about it. It's the pin in the lens, going through the flat chrome part that bugs me. Drilled shallow holes in a Corian chunk that are slightly smaller than the inside of the ring, to press polished thick aluminum foil into. Then used the Dremel to open up the ring, also sanded down the back, so there is a tiny lip inside the ring that's very thin. Glued the foil reflector on the back. Tried something different this time, poked a hole for a lightbulb, which is stretched clear sprue, which was glued on the back, then carefully cut off. Put superglue on the back, added baking soda. Glued some foil on the back over the sprue, then more superglue and baking soda. This is to prevent denting the foil. Cut off the pin from the lens, first used the Dremel, then shaved with the knife, but still needed to sand and polish the back of the lens. I've been using Elmers clear glue for the lens. Also opening up the bucket so the unit sets in better. Not sure if it's worth the trouble. Edited December 23, 2019 by 89AKurt
Flat32 Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Certainly looks worth the trouble. I can tell you got some real satisfaction out of the challenge and are enjoying the result. I get to enjoy seeing it.
