Spex84 Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 If future spacecraft look like SpaceX's Starship (seen below at left as compared with "Destination Moon" (1950), then there's hope! Maybe we'll get those sleek retro wedge cars we're hoping for. Of course, maybe by then, we'll all be commuting by Hyper-Camel.
Richard Bartrop Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 Some of the minivans already look an awful lot like what people in the 1930s thought the car of the future would look. And this 1970 Syd Mead concept for electric rental cars does look a lot like a Smart Car. You even see the rental models everywhere.
bisc63 Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 I wish my minivan looked like any of those.. (sigh)
Lunajammer Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Along with the classic artists, I also like 3D artist Sal Salvador's space rods. Mostly not practical, but like many concept cars, it's the style of the dream that counts.
bisc63 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Thanks for that SpaceRods post, wasn't aware of this guy's work. Outstanding visuals, very inspiring!
mk11 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 (edited) You guys can have that sci-fi stuff Nice art but holds not a particle of attraction for me. Haven't seen Jairus Watson's name here yet but I think he definitely rates mention Edited November 7, 2019 by mk11
Richard Bartrop Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 The Spacerods strike me as a modern version of the stuff Tom Daniel used to do for Monogram, or those showrods AMT used to do.

I remember the Charger concept among others..... I really enjoyed seeing his work, just can't remember who it was.... Just found it in the Harry Bentley Bradly topic, TJ:

(Well, almost. Still needs a removable hard top.)
The Junkman Posted January 1, 2020 Posted January 1, 2020 Harry Bentley Bradley. Widely published, imaginative, but every design seemed rooted in reality and possibility.
styromaniac Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Just read online that futurist Syd Mead passed away in Pasadena Dec 30th...cancer. As noted elsewhere on this thread...his visionary illustrations greatly influenced our culture...was key to movies like "Blade runner"and "Tron".
sfhess Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Steve Stanford. A great artist and a genuinely nice person.
