If future spacecraft look like SpaceX's Starship (seen below at left as compared with "Destination Moon" (1950), then there's hope! Maybe we'll get those sleek retro wedge cars we're hoping for.

 

Of course, maybe by then, we'll all be commuting by Hyper-Camel.

Some of the minivans already look an awful lot like what people in the 1930s thought the car of the future would look.

And this 1970 Syd Mead concept for electric rental cars does look a lot like a Smart Car.  You even see the rental models everywhere.

Along with the classic artists, I also like 3D artist Sal Salvador's space rods. Mostly not practical, but like many concept cars, it's the style of the dream that counts.

Nice art but holds not a particle of attraction for me. Haven't seen Jairus Watson's name here yet but I think he definitely rates mention

The Spacerods strike me as a modern version of the stuff Tom Daniel used to do for Monogram, or those showrods AMT used to do.

Just read online that futurist Syd Mead passed away in Pasadena Dec 30th...cancer. As noted elsewhere on this thread...his visionary illustrations greatly influenced our culture...was key to movies like "Blade runner"and "Tron".
