Gramps46 Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 (edited) Funkychicken's build of the Monogram release of the GTO got me thinking about what happen to my original build of the Aurora GTO thinking I had thrown it away. Then it dawned on me, I used a lengthened Aurora chassis and the engine under a Revell 1/24 GTO slot car body to make a hybrid (not that kind of hybrid) GTO model. Revell issued a number of hard plastic bodies for slot cars and the Ferrari was better than the Aurora one in their kit. The wheels were from the Monogram 250P kit. Back in the day I was pretty pleased with it but this was long before more modern issues of the GTO arrived. Edited April 1, 2020 by Gramps46
Dave B Posted April 1, 2020 Posted April 1, 2020 Gary, that is really nice. You have also made me think, I have a mint Revell body, less glass, and a built Aurora GTO. If we get locked down totally over here that is a project. Dave B
89AKurt Posted April 2, 2020 Posted April 2, 2020 That looks good! Like the racetrack setting too. And the best thing, it's built! I have 4 different brands in my stash.
Ragtop Man Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago FWIW, the Revell 1/24 GTO was the best of them all prior to the Fujimi of more recent days. I'd grokked this a while back, but went back to my Gunze project ( similar to the Billy Gibbons phantom 'roadster' GTO ) glad to see you did it and made it work so well. I'd heard that Aurora had originally planned a 250 GT SWB, but made a course correction to turn it into a GTO. Thinking the SWB would have been the better plan, but the kit beneath was really an excellent piece of work from Aurora, engineered long before 3D was a thing. A definite modeling 'poject' but that's why the hobby is not called "assembling"...
