Brutalform Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 I bought this body on the bay, figuring since I have so many parts to pretty much build another Galaxie. When it arrived, two cracks were found on the pillar, and the cowl. The pics and description was misleading, so I received almost a full refund, and was told to keep the part. So in the purple pond it went. I got a bit ahead of myself while building, more pics to come.
Brutalform Posted May 23, 2020 Author Posted May 23, 2020 After a three day soak, the black paint literally rubbed off. A little dab or Pro Weld on the pillar and cowl did the trick. After deepening and darkening the panel lines, it was sprayed with Tamiya grey primer. Then sanded with 1200, then sprayed with DupliColor sealer. Then sanded again, and then four coats of DupliColor Candy Apple Red. ($1.29 from Ollies). Then sanded one more time, before four coats of DupliColor clear. Still a bit of orange peel in it, but in another two days, it will get a complete polish.
Brutalform Posted May 23, 2020 Author Posted May 23, 2020 I’ve been wanting to build a Galaxie with dog dish hub caps for a while now. So this one is going to get them. Also been working on the engine, wires, chassis. In the process of scratch building a solenoid on the wheel well, to wire the battery.
'70 Grande Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Looking really good so far! What chassis are you using... it looks terrific!
Scott8950 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Thats gonna be nice. Those cars look especially good with the dog dish caps on them. I can't wait to see it finished.
Plowboy Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 I look forward to seeing this one built! I have a '62 that I want to give the same treatment to. Are those hubcaps from the '61 Starliner?
Brutalform Posted May 23, 2020 Author Posted May 23, 2020 Thanks. The hubcaps are from the Limited Edition 64 Fairlane kit, and the chassis and floor is from the 60 Starliner. Did some polishing today, and got the rest of the parts painted. I plan on hitting the hub caps with some more panel line accent to darken them a bit more.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 Nice paint job Tom! You achieved some very good results with the polishing and the Galaxie will be perfect in red. Great job on the engine too, the carburators are very convincing!
Brutalform Posted May 24, 2020 Author Posted May 24, 2020 Did a little detailing work this morning, and the engine is almost complete. I had to order some more micro bits from Micro Mark, as my smallest size bits needs replacing. So that stops me from adding the tiny wires to the generator, and other things, like the master cylinder. Gave it a try building the battery solenoid, and getting other under hood items ready. I plan on foiling tomorrow, since I’m on hold with the wiring.
geordie Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Wonderful resurrection ... I'm really digging the engine detail ... very nice work !!
Brutalform Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 Slowly moving along on the Galaxie. Decided to scratch build a starter solenoid. I must admit that it was pretty challenging. Especially for someone who’s old and can’t see. After the shocks I can get the wheels on and it will have a rolling chassis.
Maindrian Pace Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Superior in every way, one of my favorite '60s cars, bar none. The color is a convincing stand-in for Rangoon Red.
