"FORD" is clearly visible on the stripe.

I missed that Ford on the stripe. Looking at the instructions it looks like the Ford decal is made up of four seperate decals and the builder gets to spell it out.

Not on the Magnifier kit. It's there on the Trumpeter kit.

But 'FORD' is not on the stripe on the Magnifier box art.

OOPS, late post without reading all the way through.

Interesting. I have the original Trumpeter release.

What about the other 1/12 GT40 from Meng?

Meng are active on Facebook and are always posting updates on their coming releases but their GT40 has dropped off the radar with no news since last year.

My guess they saw the MENG one and since the Trumpeter one sold out quickly they figured why not get some more sales before the MENG one comes out if ever.  If you compare the Trumpeter kit to say an old Bandai large scale kit they are better but of course we are not talking Tamiya quality either.

So it looks like Magnifier  is a spin off company of Trumpeter and they decided to skip the Ford Licensing to put this kit out at a cheaper price   , I guess that's one way to do it ? but I wonder how many was in this run of this kit ?

I have the Magnifier kit and I think ( not sure ) that the Trumpeter kit did not include decals to do the blue number 1 car but they are in the Magnifier kit.  I may be wrong about them not being included in the Trumpeter kit but I believe thats what I heard.

you would be correct Ray ,you could only do the black car with Trumpeter kit .

Indycals has fixed that problem for $22 if you want to do the #1 car.  The blue paint is available from a few sources.

What rattle can paint be closest to correct for the blue car ?

I think MCW had spray cans at one time.  I bought some OEM colors in large spray cans to do multiple cars in factory Ford colors.  The color is called Arcadian blue.  Not sure what is close in the Tamiya or Testors line but like the Gulf blue it is best to research what is out there if you do not use an airbrush.

Thanks Rex. Somehow I knew you would know. I have had 3 airbrushes ( different qualities ) and if it wasn't for bad luck I would not have had any luck ! ?

I would think airbrushing a model this size would be a very long, tedious process. Arcadian blue is a bit lighter blue than Gulf blue.

I had been looking at these Trumpeter kits over the years, and was involved in some ebay bidding wars that I thankfully lost. As most of us probably know, this is a kit of the "official"  (if not "real") winner  of the 1966 24 hours of Le Mans. I wonder if they rushed a re-release to try to catch on to the excitement of the "Ford vs Ferrari" movie? A little late, but at least the kit is out.

Does anyone know when this Magnifier version of the kit came out? Any pictures/unboxing of the kit?

Here are some pics . Sorry but I did not unwrap the parts trees .

Thanks for posting. So this looks like basically a rebox of the Trumpeter kit from 2009, but they didn't want to pay royalty fees to Ford. I have read mixed reviews on this kit, but seems like the price came down without the licensing. I think the Trumpeter kit had an MSRP of $259 back then, somewhat cheaper from the hobby houses. I have seen the Magnifier kit listed at ~$125, give or take. I think I will pull the trigger on this kit, before production gets halted again!
