Dale Gribble Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 If 12 year old me knew what 36 year old me knows now about this kit , I never would have built this kit the first time I owned it .... now I have a chance to get it right... Axalta black basecoat , decals applied with micro set . I bombed the application of the tailgate decal , but somehow I managed to save it with about 20 minutes of unfolding with a blade and lots of water . The decals were barely useable . I’ll let them sit to dry for a day or so and follow up with Nason 496 clear ... 1
iamsuperdan Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Can never see too many builds of this truck! I think I would have given up on the decals and just sourced new ones. Good to see you able to save them.

I've run into this also with older decal sheets. A product I used with some success was Testors Decal Bonder. This was designed to protect decals printed at home but they seemed to help with older brittle decals also. Now the bad news, with Testors being taken over this product my no longer be produced or even a replacement. I think there should be other paint manufactures that offer such a product and if you're building an older kit it might be an idea to find something like this before using the decals.
Dale Gribble Posted October 3, 2020 Author Posted October 3, 2020 (edited) Figured the decals have had enough time to set , so it was wel and good to lock them under some Axalta 496 clear coat .... like glass right off the gun ..... only minor polishing will be required ... Dale Gribble Posted October 4, 2020 Author Posted October 4, 2020 And of course , I open a sealed kit to find missing parts .... anybody got a spindle ? 13L is the one I need ..
iamsuperdan Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 lolz, that is the EXACT part that was missing on the 454SS kit I just finished! Had to rob the parts stash. Luckily, I had one. Paintwork looks excellent!
iamsuperdan Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Turned out really nice! Great save on the decals!
Brizio Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Very nice job done! I ike these body style truck! Seems that the kit has non clear headlights, that's unfortunate.
Can-Con Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Looks great. Excellent job detailing, especially the wheels.
cheyenne93 Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Nice job Dale. Bean waitin to see this one done. I have two of them built, but not stock. One I did of my 1 1 cheyenne. Are those the wheels you got from me? I have another set of them still on the tree, if you ever need another set. ??
