stevez Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 (edited) Tired of those gloss finishes, I finished a weathered Abrams tank recently, so why not a car? Ground up pastels for the dust (apply wet and brush off later) and my brine: steel wool & vinegar in a jar for a month or so. Hats off to the British modeler for the brine (youtube). Here are the dirty XXX pics, Merry Christmas Y''all ! Edited December 23, 2020 by stevez 1
wrenchr Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 That looks very good!! Might have to try that brine idea.
Deuces ll Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Thanks for doing a build up of this kit!!!!!..... ??
Tom Geiger Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 Looks good, your rust is convincing. One suggestion since you are still working.. anywhere you can see a brush stroke in the weathering (the big one on the roof for example) sand it away in a circular motion. Avoid brush marks or edges to the color difference. I will dab in my weathering and rust, to avoid any stroke marks since it wouldn’t appear that way in 1:1
stevez Posted December 24, 2020 Author Posted December 24, 2020 Exactly I've gone back with circular sanding thanks Tom

misterNNL Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 Evidently the brine did not have a reaction either your paint? Or did you use a clear coat over the top prior to applying the brine? I am preparing an IH Metro step van for a similar finish so I want to be sure of the correct technique before messing it all up.
stevez Posted December 26, 2020 Author Posted December 26, 2020 (edited) I put directly on tamiya white primer and testor's blue acrylic. No reaction but definitely do a test first to be sure. Edited December 29, 2020 by stevez
Tortuga Kustomz Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 that looks very cool, never try something like that before
stevez Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 Further along, engine in, interior almost done 1
stevez Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 Had to enlarge the front side of the rear wheel well as well. Otherwise fits very well thus far.
Alan Posted January 2, 2021 Posted January 2, 2021 I love the weathering! Where can one get a good ref. guide to weathering? Alan
stevez Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 You tube there's lots of ways. Pastels, salt, sanding you name it
BlackSheep214 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Wow...she’s a dirty lil gasser! Well done!
misterNNL Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 This really has that " I live on a dirt road" look going on.
TarheelRick Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Beautiful weathering and an outstanding build. Reminds me of the local dragstrip back in the 60's, many of those cars were built for speed and not for corporate sponsor looks.
AmericanMuscleFan Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Very cool weathering finish, very convincing! I would like to be brave enough to embark on this process...
stevez Posted January 4, 2021 Author Posted January 4, 2021 Engine and interior now done. Thinking of cutting off the front end valance since there's no bumper. Gas tank will be strapped to grill. 1

Gas tank will be strapped to grill. If you cut the valance off, cut the front fenders also. It is one of the many inaccuracies of this kit. Your build is looking great though Edited January 5, 2021 by Sledsel 1
