butter Posted January 26, 2021 Posted January 26, 2021 Looks good. Dash gauges and paint detail are well done.

Nice color on the engine block too, is there a sound box between the seats? If so, I'm sure the driver won't hear any noise or crackle from the cabin while listening to Sammy Hagar's "can't drive 55", do you know the tune? ? Hello Francis! I know the tune well, takes me back a few years. There is a fairly large area behind the seats, it needed something, why not a couple of sub woofers... I think once everything is flocked, it will just blend in. Nice to hear from you, I haven’t checked your progress lately, I will do that tonight. Cheers, Steve

Steve H Posted January 28, 2021 Author Posted January 28, 2021 Had a bit more desk time, nothing earth shattering in the visual progress. However, I was able to do a full trial run on the order of final assembly. I believe that my plan will work, and if all goes well it will just slide together.... let’s hope all goes well. A bunch more sanding, cutting, grinding. I now have the inner front fenders fitting, track width of the Pegasus wheels/tires done, firewall cut to size, and I believe the ride height is set. I am planning on keeping the motor under the cowl hood, during mock up the motor would not allow hood to close... not even close. So, cut down the motor mounts, shaved some meat out of the front cross member, to allow motor to sit lower. Then cut the underside if the hood out to the edge of the cowl hood scoop. Looks like it will work now, although I still need to finish motor to double check, as the carbs are quite substantial. Most of the “heavy lifting” is now down, so time to get going on paint and assembly! As always, thanks for looking, input and comments always welcome. Cheers, Steve

Do I need to raise the roof ? Thank you for the input, much appreciated! Cheers, Steve
Steve H Posted January 28, 2021 Author Posted January 28, 2021 8 hours ago, Sam I Am said: That looks freaking awesome! ? Hi Sam, thank you for the compliment. I am still quite happy with the overall look of the car/truck, whatever these things are. Hoping to get going on chassis assembly over the next week, and try to get the tailgate area done and then get it ready for paint. Still a little finessing to do on the body. Thanks for having a look. Cheers, Steve
Steve H Posted February 1, 2021 Author Posted February 1, 2021 Hi guys, managed some desk time over the weekend and got a fair bit accomplished. It may not look like much, especially to some of you overachievers !! The good news for me is that the body and box are now one piece, it took some patience to get it to fit nice, but it’s done and looks good. Part of the day was spent modifying the tailgate to fit. I got most of the chassis bits cleaned up and painted, still have detail painting to do on those. The frame is not in the photo but it is painted gloss black now, and the modified front inner fenders are semi gloss black. Firewall will get more detail painting later. I think the body is now in final primer! I will give it a closer inspection tomorrow. The only thing I might still add is a CHMSL at top of the rear window. The hood still needs a bit more work to blend in the cowl scoop. Thanks for looking
AmericanMuscleFan Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 WOW! The body looks perfect Steve, looks like it was molded that way! It promises!!! ?
Claude Thibodeau Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Hi Steve! Wow, very "OEM" as they say. Even more so because flat primer has a tendency to accentuate any flaw, and... They are nowhere to be found. Bravo! CT
Belugawrx Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 Really nice body work there Steve. .the only thing I see is ..need to sharpen (square) the back edge (sail panel) of the roof a bit. .seems the only round portion of the body work.. glad you left those hips Beautiful lines on those 442s Cheers

I see your point with the curved sail panel. When I did the mock up with the bumpers on, it looks pretty sweet. Between the curved “hips”, and the curved bumpers, it doesn’t look as out of place. Thank you for the comments, much appreciated! Cheers, Steve

89AKurt Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Love the concept. I had an El Camino kit but sold it, too many ideas to distract from all the other ideas I wish to build. Very nice job so far.

Steve H Posted February 8, 2021 Author Posted February 8, 2021 Hi guys, Time for an update. I spent some time getting the chassis “adjusted” and assembled, I will do a bit more touch up painting at final assembly. I may also add a fuel line. I also spent a fair bit of time on the motor. The carbs were modified a bit. Removed the intake trumpets, and added partial throttle linkage and fuel lines. I got the carbs mounted, and installed aluminum intake trumpets... The fuel rail is a piece of aluminum tubing, I will add a line to the fuel pump later. Oh, and ignition wires with looms and “boots”. I don’t plan on doing all the carb linkage on this one, I feel like it would be a bit too busy. As I had hoped, the body colour on the motor is now mostly disguised under all the parts, but still adds a splash of colour. Hoping to get the base coat on the body this week, colour coat next weekend. Still waiting for a couple of “bits” to arrive for the interior. Now that the motor is assembled, I need to mock up to see if it all fits under the hood!! Fingers crossed ? Thanks for looking
AmericanMuscleFan Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 WOW, that's some seriously good work Steve! The chassis is superb and the engine is certainly one of your brest effort so far although I have not seen all that you have accomplished to date. We can not say that it promises because you have already delivered a lot and it is only getting better!!! ?
