I haven't watched NASCAR in a long time, so I have been "out of the loop" so to speak.  Since when has NASCAR run on dirt?  What are they trying to do, get back to their roots?

I just watched the truck race highlights. Most entertaining racing I have seen in 20 years from NASCAR. Previous to that was the first year of the trucks at Daytona.

They are trying to stop the decline in viewership.

Interesting.  I didn't know that.  Back when I was watching NASCAR, all the races were on paved tracks.

NASCAR has for decades been racing on pavement only, but when starting just after WW 2 most if not all of the race tracks were dirt. The original Dayton race was run on the beach with a return on the two lane blacktop road. I also find it interesting that they have added a dirt race to the schedule this year.

They also added several road courses to the schedule as well as both Pocono races are the same weekend.. There is only one race in Dover and a few others lost there second races. It is primarily an attempt to up there ratings and fans again NASCAR has been taking a slow decline and it got a lot worse once Covid hit...

Running identical cars killed it for me. To me racing is the best man who brings the best car.

Funny I remember watching IROC racing decades ago, and they were identically-prepared cars.

I'm a bit disappointed that I saw the hype surrounding the dirt race for weeks, but in the end it got moved to a day I had to work and so I missed it.  The race got further publicity when Richard Petty made some public comments that were less than positive.

Exactly. I would rather see true stock bodied cars with a factory V-6 duking it out at slower speeds. I stopped watching the year they came out with the COT.

I agree 100%... Nascar has regulated and evened the cars out so much it got to be a total bore to watch and see who won by luck. Put together a nostalgia circuit with production bodied cars and i'll watch it faithfully even if they don't run the high speeds of today.

Any chance you can relay what was said?

Unfortunately there need for better safety as well as there want to control every detail have made the cars what they are. I would love to see them go back to a stock bodied car and restrict it so it wouldn’t be faster than say 100 mph to keep them safe..

I like that they are going too race on dirt again. I have been getting more interested in watching it again I watched more race last year and this year then I have in several years..

I think the "dirt" race was ridiculous!  Those cars are not meant to race on dirt and they spent an obscene amount of money to truck dirt in to mess up one of the only short tracks remaining on the schedule.  I do like the idea that they're reducing the number of 1 1/2 mile cookie-cutter ovals but a dirt race is not the answer.  It will be even worse next year if they try to race the Next Gen cars with independent rear suspensions on dirt.  All they managed to do was tear up a bunch of cars, p-off the drivers, and alienate long-time fans.  Nice work NASCAR!

I think the USAC Triple Crown winners would have a different opinion.
