bluestringer Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 The 68 Chevelle didn't turn out very good, but I got a couple more kits to try. I already had the 65 Chevy Stepside PU, and I just picked up an AMT Nova SS Pro Stocker "Old Pro" from Hobby Lobby with their 40% off sale. I think I will try the AMT next, it seems to be a less complicated kit, less parts and may be an easier build to start with. I think it's a reboot of an old kit from the 70's maybe. Looking at the parts it looks like there will be a lot of cleanup to do before I can get started though. I will post some pictures later.
NOBLNG Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Take your time with it. Best to test fit everything to make sure it fits well. I find installing brass or styrene pins to positively locate finicky parts is a great help during final assembly. Good luck with it.
BlackSheep214 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Yes, the Old Pro Nova kit is a re pop of the original. I did this kit back in the mid to late 70s and loved it. I need to get this one again.
BlackSheep214 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 The old Monogram kits from the 70s and 80s were super easy.... better than AMT. I’ve always liked the old Monogram kits and MPC kits. Keep in mind, they’re from old molds from the 70s.
slusher Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 The hardest part of the AMT Nova is lining up the front fenders and hood unless this kit is different fro other AMT Nova kits..

Nope; that's the one. I was just thinking maybe not the best choice for the OP if the '68 Chevelle discouraged you... Best of luck, and do be patient with it. There have been some beauties made of that kit.
Zippi Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 I have the 2009 version AMT 66 Nova Pro Street on the bench and it's full of flash so I can't image what your's looks like. Try and look at it as it's just the nature of the beast and part of the hobby. If it was all nice and easy with no issues then I guess we would have show stoppers. The end result is what we are all looking for. Hand in there dude.
bluestringer Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 It was all the small parts with the 68 Chevelle that gave me a fit. I did get a magnifying visor that has helped a lot. I don't mind cleaning up the flash and such, and I will take more time with this one. I've learned a lot of stuff here that I think will help me. I was a little too impatient with the Chevelle and I need to work on that.
Zippi Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 James....I'm a little too impatient myself and I've always been that way with everything. Very hard for me to break but I'm working on it.

Yes, and getting all the tool marks off the C-pillars, and then trying to straighten out the B-pillars.

Someone else mentioned Monogram kits of the 70s & 80s. If you are frustrated by complexity and small parts, the Monogram muscle car kits of the 80s are an excellent choice. Simple construction and they make great looking models.
Zippi Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 The Revell 1956 Ford truck (Foose) was my second build and it was great. No flash, no fit issues, and a great truck to build.

T he satin finish on that P/U is right on.?
Zippi Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 (edited) Thanks Mike. That is Delta Ceramcoat Midnight blue acrylic paint with a touch of black mixed in. It was cleared with Tamiya X-22 Cear. The build is in WIP and Under Glass. Edited May 21, 2021 by Zippi
bluestringer Posted May 21, 2021 Author Posted May 21, 2021 Cleaning up the body I found this. I'm going to leave it as is though since this will be a drag car that has been down the track a few times I'm working on scribing the panel lines after I read and saw on here how it can improve the looks. . I'll be using the 454 engine since it's the track car. A complete 350 is also with the kit.
Zippi Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 (edited) Nice James. Here is the 66 Nova I've been working on and my first attempt at panel lines. I did mine with Tamiya black panel line accent. I did mine before the primer went on. Turned out pretty good. Edited May 21, 2021 by Zippi
bluestringer Posted May 25, 2021 Author Posted May 25, 2021 Engine is almost finished. Need to add the fan and distributor. I had thought about trying to wire it but decided against it. I did try to do some weathering on it, not too crazy about the way it looks, but I guess it could be worse. That intake stuff was a bugger, it would not fit together correctly, I tried to correct it but finally just got it on the best I could.
bluestringer Posted May 25, 2021 Author Posted May 25, 2021 You can tell this is a older kit because of the hole in the pan for the metal axle. I saw some youtube vids of people fixing that, but I was not going to try it.
