Rocking Rodney Rat Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 I got my Nova wagon in the post yesterday and wasted no time digging into it. My concept is a sedan delivery (as the title would suggest). Side panels with a two door, with slightly longer doors than the four door version. I stared pulling parts. The '63 kit is very basic. I have '66 Nova kit and the frame and interior line up perfectly, so I'm going that route... here's the 'yard sale' of parts: I'm going to use the Mustang II front suspension out of the Roth Beatnik Bandit II kit. I'm going to clip the frame horns with the Roth kit. The engine is from the old Testors Boyd Coddington Smoothster, a modern SBC. I had lots of the parts aftermarket chromed several years ago (it's in the bag on the bottom right of the first pic). I'm using a T5 from a Mustang kit. Wheels and tires from the Revell '32 roadster (different front tire). Ford 9" differential...some other goodies thrown in... The first order of business is to cut out the molded in engine compartment from the body. I won't be using that...time to get busy!!! Thanks for playing along.... -RRR
Cool Hand Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 Seems to be a well thought out plan, always enjoy seeing how you guy's can pull parts from various kits and work them into a custom build. Look forward to seeing this build come together.
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted August 9, 2021 Author Posted August 9, 2021 I got busy this weekend on the SD...first order of business, removing the engine compartment tub from the body... Once I could put the '66 Nova floor pan in place after some trimming on the rear wheel tubs and floor behind the tubs, it became clear the wheel wells are too shallow to fit any reasonable tires... Notice how the rear frame rails spread out towards the back. If they were parallel, there would be room for tires. Easy fix... cut, cut, hack, hack, snip... yes, the sawzall is getting a workout... much better, now to replace the floor and make new tubs... I cut away the gas tank from the stock floor pan, this will be added back in... I relocated the front spring perches slightly more inboard... it's a tight squeeze, but it all fits...next up, clipping the front end and adding the M2 front suspension.... More later, thanks for looking... -RRR 4

Fellow builders are awesome partners when it comes to bringing the right parts to any project. Just recently, one of our brothers here on MCM forum came up short on a part for a long desired build. Shortly after the request went out... a builder from the opposite side of the country came up with the part! Taking the project one step further, the kit supplied wheels of choice were found in the companion kit. Again the word went out and a trade was made satisfyingly both parties and now has two builders now looking at building a long time shelf dwelling model kit & are heading to their respective benches! True story!! -KK
Rocking Rodney Rat Posted August 19, 2021 Author Posted August 19, 2021 I got my cowl induction hood I found on our favorite auction site (no, not Etsy..). The cowl induction piece will be sliced off and grafted onto the '63 hood. Other than that, not much being done this week, yet. -RRR
TransAmMike Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Looking really cool, your scratch work is impressive Rodney?
Oldcarfan27 Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 With all the rest of the Ford drive train you're using, you should put a small block Ford engine in and really grind those Chevy guys gears!
