RDean58 Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 I got this hardtop in a multiple buy from that auction site. I got another 62 Galaxie for the stock front and rear bumpers and tail lights. Then I thought, why not use an AMT 60 Starliner frame under it? By removing the tranny hump from the 60 floor pan I was able to use the stock interior bucket without modification. This saved me a lot of aggravation since the seats are molded hollow to the interior bucket. I did need to shorten the 60 frame and floor pan a little and narrow it a bit behind the rear wheel wells. Bumpers fit great I was shooting for this ride height. I think I got it. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed. 1
espo Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Looks like you are off to a great start. I hope it's only the angle of the photos but the models front wheel well opening doesn't seem to have the same shape as the picture of the 1:1 car.
RDean58 Posted October 26, 2021 Author Posted October 26, 2021 Its the angle. On the real car you can barely see any interior, on the model shot you can see the upper portion of the interior. You can also see more of the drivers side interior roof on the model shot than the real car, so comparing wheel well shapes will be off.
1930fordpickup Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 This is going to be sweet. 1962 galaxies are nice cars.
RDean58 Posted October 28, 2021 Author Posted October 28, 2021 Got some color on the body, Testors' Fiery Orange. These pics where shot right after the color coat and before any clear. 1
Scott8950 Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 That fiery orange looks great on the galaxie. Nice job
RDean58 Posted October 29, 2021 Author Posted October 29, 2021 It's been cleared! I'll have to fix the little imperfections from floating dust particles that managed to find their way into my wet clear coat, it always seems to happen. I was going for the metallic chestnut look but it seems like I'm off quite a bit. Still, I think it looks good in the fiery orange. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed. 1
tbill Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Looks great! flaming orange might have got you closer, added a pic for reference.
Zippi Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 Yeah that color looks great. I tried airbrushing some Testors paint mixed 50/50 with lacquer thinner and I didn't like the outcome. Probably got it on a little heavy.
David G. Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 Beautiful paintwork, great color. Looks great so far! David G.
cobraman Posted October 30, 2021 Posted October 30, 2021 Seeing as my first car was a 62 Ford I am very interested in your project.
