bonehead23 Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 I watched a video on the history of AMT, and there on a photo of a page in an old catalog, was the chopped '53 Stude body on a Piranha chassis. research turned up that it was a kit, but only produced once. So I did more research and found that the only parts not included in either the Studey or the Piranha was a simple hinge for the body. I made my own out of styrene tubing and the two little swivels that mount on the rear quarters from a Dyno Don AWB car. So now I have my very own Mr. Speed at about 1/3 the price of a mint kit.

Nice limited visibility ride on the wild side.
magicmustang Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 (edited) Great job. I also enjoy beating the system by creating my own replica at a much lower cost. Edited November 9, 2021 by magicmustang

Dave Armstrong Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Very nice, good job! Welcome to the club of those of us that have either built an original, or replicated one!

It's based on the Piranha chassis. The AMT '53 Studebaker is readily available (with the Mr. Speed decals): https://www.ebay.com/itm/115084727308?epid=1330536174&hash=item1acb95940c:g:-U4AAOSwLT1hiD7c it seems they're getting expensive, tho.... -RRR 1

Bainford Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 Cool Stude, and nice replication of the old kit. That green is a wicked shade, works perfect with this build. Nicely done.
